It takes a lot for me to cry in Anime, and even though I found this one of the most sad scenes I've seen, I didn't cry. Unless getting teary counts? I found this ending really, really sad.

Kind of overdramatic and the ending scene made me laugh because of the hide and seek thing, which sounded stupid.

Still liking this anime though, but kinda overrated. Sorry.

I didn't cry too, Menma was a bit annoying for me. I already watched more touching scenes from other series, so I didn't even have tears in my eye.

Well, after reading 3 pages of this thread, I can see the opinions are quite mixed.

I didn't cry, but I wanted to a little bit. I absolutely loved the first 7 episodes, but after that it turned a little meh. It was really emotional, but since I can't relate to it (only person I could relate to was Jinta at the beginning of the anime, since that pretty much sums me up - no life loser who sits at home all day).

Very well done anime, with an absolutely beautiful storyline, but the ending was a little iffy for me. I felt something emotional from this anime as well, but not what I think the animators' original idea was.

PS: I didn't cry at Clannad or Clannad: AS either, but I DID cry at Clannad: Tomoyo Chapter and Angel Beats!. Angel Beats! was the real tear-jerker for me, especially that pre-last scene.

didn't cry, since i put this on hold at episode 9 when it was released, and now I just finished it. probably wouldn't have cried even if i watched it straight because I was kind of annoyed with some parts of the anime, but regardless, it was pretty emotional in the end.

I got teary eyed when everyone was reading the messages that Menma left them underneath the tree. That scene was just so poignant, especially with the addition of the song "secret base". How can you not cry while watching that scene?

Man, I feel like rewatching the entire series now... (maybe after all my exams :/ )

A disappointing last episode to an otherwise fantastic show. I don't get emotional because of the story or characters for the most part, but when the ending music plays... i admit i get teary eyed. Same thing with After Story. The right music at the right time is powerful stuff.

Ano hana isn't "that" bad, per say. While I do find it silly to compare it to another infamous tear jerker, Ano hana was still an enjoyable watch despite the weak ending.

Didn't cry. Teary-eyed, yea.

This series was just too short for me to feel much attachment to the characters.

Still a great anime though.

If I want to cry without fail, I'd just watch after story :P

Anyone who didn't cry is a soulless machine that had a too perfect childhood.

I know I speak for everyone when I say there's at least person I've fallen out with. Those rosy tinted days, stupid conversations that filled my heart and imagination, or those silly adventures that seemed never ending. I know I long to be a kid again; stupid, crazy, and smiling.

If I had to say it, I am Jinta. Still struggling to find all this "growing up" to be worthwhile, but struggling nevertheless. I know a bit about being anti social, not giving a damn about people; especially about what their thinking. I wish I had a Menma that would reunite me with my childhood friends and bring to light the important things in life. None of this "socially cool" crap.

I cried [sobbed] like a b*tch, no exaggeration. I understand everyone's dilemmas, I sympathize with their emotions, and I appreciate their story. Thus is why I weep, not because I personally found them inspiring, but more so because I can understand and appreciate it.

That's how I rate my sheeeet. Universally, and this is GOOOOOD SHEEEEET whether it's your cup of tea or not.

I didn't cry because the episode was too "in your face" with trying to make the audience cry. Way too melodramatic.

It started out quite strong, but gradually weakened.

Quite honestly, I didn't either. Playing Hide and Seek felt very unrealistic, and didn't really capture the mood well, and there was a bit too much crying. The series as a whole was pretty decent (though overrated imo, there are better tearjerkers out there), but when they started going on about having to 'find' Menma, I just kinda...couldn't connect.

The ending to Air and Angel Beats are prime examples of how a sad scene should be done - not with overly emotional farewells, but with a slightly bittersweet tone and climatic music.

Got teary-eyed but didn't cry as much as I did in Clannad or Angel Beats! The emotion was def. there though, knowing that she's really gonna be gone now but at least this time they got to do a proper goodbye. Quite bittersweet.

I did. I'm not very easily moved to tears, though I can empathize with the sad feelings lots of shows evoke.

I think the people who thought the end was "silly" didn't understand how the hide and seek pulled them all back into the time when they were all still kids... and thus all together. It should have been obvious, but none of them had really moved on; they were all stuck in the past. And in order for time to start moving for them again, they had to come to grips with the past.

What's so difficult about understanding that?

Angel Beats made me a little sad, made me tear up a bit, but not nearly as much as the last episode of AnoHana.

Then again, maybe I'm getting sentimental as I get older...

Plenty of anime had snapped my tears out, but not this.

Ano Natsu had a brilliant ep. 1 (it even made me a bit teary), but it ran out of fuel very quick. A rare breed of drama that supposed to be shorter than it's actual length (while most of the rest rushed things too fast in the end)

Or maybe it's just me who failed to connect with the anime. Lately it's rare to found any anime that made me cry. The last series which I expect a lot is Angel Beats, but it failed. Finally the only anime who made me cried in the late one or two years is AIR (rewatch).

Indeed, also it was quite a childish drama routine. Not very real. The little ghost girl and her wishes ain't something realistically tragic you can empathize with. She also freaking died like a gazillion years ago and this guys act like she died the previews day.

Did not cry while watching Ano Hana, cried for Clannad: AS.
Ano Hana's biggest flaw was superunnatural everyone's simultaneous cry burst scene (and as far as I remember it was also in the last episode so while the ending was touching it couldn't have done anything about that). Just reminding myself about it makes me think "How could you make something so ridiculous?"

I mean, it was brilliantly executed and all but I guess I just can't connect with crying for someone who's already dead.

Good lord, I know I didn't. -__- I mean, crying's great and all but I think there was just too much in this last episode, especially considering the fact that at least one character (Menma) cried in each episode.

Honestly, I felt so let down by this series towards the middle and especially by the ending. At the beginning, I never would've imagined cringing/laughing at the show's emotional climax...and seriously, Poppo? I was expecting it but after hearing everyone else's one-sided love story, Poppo's confession felt so random and out of place (so I just lol'd).

Anyway, when I think about it, I felt more teary-eyed in the first episode... >___> That's messed up....
