For now I will say: Tomoe's Death from Samurai X Betrayal. This anime (I mean the OVA - Trust and Betrayal) are one of the best stories I have ever seen. With the right cast and director it can be an epic movie.

I've already seen the OVA so this doesn't bother me, but please use spoiler tags if you are going to put something like that.

- For Sanji's past it was more like deep manly respect for the great man known as Zeff.

Thanks. I love this avi plus it could come in handy in some threads and for some people in the Code Geass fanbase that makes me want to say this. xD

The scene in Yu Yu hakusho where yusuke doesn't know what he's fighting for anymore on episode 110 . Its really sad to me because he was just going to throw everything he worked for the entire series, and just give up on everything including the tournament that was his idea.

Naruto

Gungrave

Now these were around when I first started watching anime, so it may just because I was younger back then and wasn't very mature.

I like the shows that can take a step away from the humor and fun energy of the plot to throw in a good scene that'll punch you in your emotional soft spot. I remember watching Sora no Otoshimono (the first season).

I guess spoiler, just in case ;)

Nymph was trying to please her master as to not be "scrapped" and she called in her bird on his whim. This bird attached to her by heart and loved her. The master commanded her to rip its wings off. The next scene shows her being kicked to the ground with bloodstained hands and feathers stuck to the blood. In the anime, she has a kind of solemn, hopeful look around birds.

What's yours?

Since I haven't watched anime that much yet, so far the saddest moment for me was from K-On second season

While not really sad, I would say two of the most emotional scenes from an anime were these:

About mid way though Welcome to the NHK. If you've seen the series, you know the episode in question.

The other is from One Piece, where Luffy and Usopp fight it out. The scene has a lot of tension behind it, and the result is pretty depressing for a while.
