i decided that if i actually do have children and i'm lucky enough to have two boys, i wouldn't mind throwing in lelouch or lawliet somewhere in their names.

but that's about the only way i'd name my kids after an anime character, and it's only because i think those names are pretty, and they're kinda close to typical english names (actually i believe both of them have roots in french, but i could be wrong).

1. I will never have kids.
2. Why name them after anime characters? So they can be ridiculed more than usual at school?
I'm back.

I might call my kid Edward after the FMA character. I like the traditional names.. and not only would Ed apply to my anime fandom, but also to my love of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight character and my passion for sensible traditional names.
I wouldn't give my kid a Japanese name. The closest I've ever come to thinking of that is calling a daughter Hannah, but spelling it Hana like flower. But it probably won't happen.
It wouldn't hurt to give the kid a nickname of a character that they seem like (eg. if a kid is a bit troublesome and hyper then nicknaming him Naruto, but not actually putting it on the birth certificate)
I'm not a big fan of weird names though. It was first a fad that made people seem high class like celebs but now it is tacky and common. The poor kids...

I was actually just thinking about this yesterday. I think I would but only if the name isn't too weird or japanese. The name I was thinking about was Euphemia which isn't a too common name but not Japanese. Euphemia was a character I liked from Code Geass.

Only if they had a reasonable name (i.e. I would not inflict names like "Light" or "Lain" on my kids), and even then I probably wouldn't.

I'm from Norway, so calling my kid a japanese name would be kinda weird.

I'm thinkin of calling my son(when and if i get one) Lucifer.
If theres an anime character called Lucifer, then i gues you can say i'm gonna name my kid after an anime character:P
I'M NOT A RETARRRD!! I'm malfunctioning!!!

I remember a story where some people let their brothers/sisters give their kid the middle name. They chose kikyo...Of course those brothers/sisters don't call the kid by her first name a tall...just kikyo. How sad.

I believe a name should have something to it. I have Scandinavian/Germanic roots. So I would want my child to have a name like that. Also depends on what nationality my wife is. Heck, how cool would it be for a boy to be name Tor, or a girl named Freya?

Spike is a name you give to a dog.
Going to make him wear a studded collar too? Post a sign out front "Beware of Son"

I'm sorry, but Lelouch? It's terribly unrealistic, even for it's own canon.

I admit Dante isn't that bad. Used to be fairly common in the early centuries.

eh, i like it. i think it's a pretty cool name.
i've always been one to like kinda unique names though. i think it's because i feel like mine's so boring.

although, sadly, it's very very easy to make fun of that name so if i did choose to name a kid that, it'd probably be his middle name to somewhat spare him from being called things such as "ledouche" all throughout school.

If I were to REALLY name my kid after an anime character, it would have to be one with a hell of a lot of sentimental value to me and my significant other, or just a coincidental one.

For instance, Howl could be a cool name, as the book has immense sentimental value to me, and by coincidence, Howl's Moving Castle is an anime.

But saying "lol i dub thee inuyasha" to your kid would be... odd.

It really depends on the name. A name like Kenpachi or Byakuya, no, but something that's natural, like Shirley or (I would) Rin, yes. I did try to name my new dog Orihime, my mom wouldn't allow it though. We eventually settled on Medea (after Caster from Fate/stay night) but somehow that evolved into Maddie =/

That doesn't really count, heh. Ed is a rather normal name. I guess if I did have children, and I had to name them after an anime character, I would probably choose Onizuka (as a middle name).
I'm back.

Bleh, depends.
I would never name my child "Lelouch, Inu-Yasha, Cloud, Makoto, " and so on and so forth, in english translation they sound, funny, :)

Perhaps names like, "Mai, Nanally, " names that'll at least no sound odd. But for the moment, I don't have any intension too.

"I'll give props to someone that does that but in the end will your kid like being harassed because his name came from a cartoon show,"-Otaku Freak

I was named after a Cartoon Show, an American Cartoon Show. A character my dad believed to be "hot" when he was young. My name is DAPHNE. Ohhh, Scooby Doo !~ I've never been harrassed, the only people that link my name to the show are my friends, by occasionally saying "hey Daph, we got a clue" or "jinkies, what the hell Daph" and I find it amusing, :DDDD ! <3 Because I too, loved Daphne.

Actually, that's been pretty common in the U.S. and U.K. since like, the '70s.

And when you think about it, why shouldn't they? There are a lot of kids in Japan named Julie and Maria and Kurisu and so on.

And as for how it sounds.... Neither of my parents were born here, but they gave me an American name even though my last name is very Russian. Any name will eventually sound fine after a while when you say it together anyways.

Think about stars - Naomi Watts is a Hebrew+English name, Daisy Fuentes is English+Spanish, Vivian Leung is Western+Chinese.

Sonny Chiba, Jackie Chan, etc etc etc. The creator of BECK calls himself Harold Sakuishi....

I know a girl named Mizuki who isn't even remotely wapanese to begin with, but her parents thought it was a beautiful Japanese name, even though they don't really care much for Japan.

A parent simply naming a kid a pretty Japanese name won't make them into a weeaboo; it's their actions that determine that.

Points for you. Very well said, my sentiments exactly.

My fiancè and I intend to have 2 to 4 children, and one of them will be named Shizuru. We will either be living in a latin american country, Canada, or Japan. We are hoping for Japan, but it will depend on a few circumstances. Regardless of that, or the fact that my adoptive family is Japanese, the children will be named as we please. There are not very many names in existence that did not originate outside of an English speaking country. With a few small exceptions such as Belinda and Wendy. Wendy did not exist before Peter Pan was written. Belinda was not in existence prior to a poem by Alexander Pope.

If people can be just fine being named after fictional literary characters, I'm not sure what the big deal is about any other kind of character.
