Wait a few years before doing this.

This.
It hasn't even been 2 years. I'm not so sure how the politians will react......

Not even sure what he can make out of this. I mean, it's going to be realistic right? If it was ms I would've done this:

Year 2010, the year when the great Japanese EarthquKe occurred. About 7% of the population died due to conveniently at that time, it was a central tourist site for [insert important event].
many foreigners were killed in that quake. Although japan suffered heavy economical and political losses, it still is doing somewhat fine.
But that's where I would completely cut it ofc from the quake, and turn it more into fantasy then original......

Not sure how this would go.

I got really excited until I saw that he was nothing more than the director of a bunch of moe horseshit

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 already beat him to it anyway

I wish people would stop comparing it to Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. Yes, people of MAL, an anime based on a real tragedy is going to be EXACTLY the same as an anime about a fictional earthquake that was created before said tragedy happened.
(Also I thought it was pretty obvious he was joking when he said he'd retire if Fractale did badly...? Guy's a massive troll.)
Well. I've actually enjoyed some of his work (I loved Kannagi), but I've enjoyed his stuff more on entertainment value than on drama or depth of subject, so I don't really know how he'd tackle a subject as heavy as this...
If an anime like that does get made eventually, no matter who directs it, you've got to take pity on the guys animating it. It was awful enough just seeing the footage of the disaster on the news, imagine having to recreate it in animation. :/

Too soon in my opinion, but if this anime is gonna happen.....he'd better execute show properly.

* However....I shall remain skeptical *

It would be cool if the anime focused on different people in each episode.

sounds to me like he wants to make up for what he saw as fractale's failure in guaranteeing a tearjerker by socking people in a huge emotional soft spot that's hardly had enough time to heal.
but whatever, i'd probably watch it anyway, not that I think he'd do a horrible job but it feels a little bit like a cheap trick after the fits he threw over fractale. I dunno.

my plot prediction

so it's going to be kids magically escaping the earthquake because they're the Chosen Ones chosen by the tsunami god
and the tsunami god is a pervert who likes to make sex jokes about the protagonist
and then something happens that doesn't make any sense
and everyone still dies, but the protag saved his gf
so it's a good ending

anime = saved

The tsunami god must be a loli. Don't forget that.

Oh yeah. This may either come off as a good SERIOUS anime or complete disappointment.

Maybe he needs to undergo a period of 4 year depression before this......

an anime based on a huge disaster recently won't sit well with Japan, Disaster Report 4 was cancelled because it would not be appropriate. For me I don't mind.
