Hmmm.... Proud parents of pyromaniac pod people? This seemed more 'Twilight Zone' than Mushishi, but pehaps the mushi are getting stranger as the series winds down. Makes me wonder if there's some sort of finale, or if it's just Ginko doing his thing the whole way?

Very strange, yet very good episode =P
I was actually expecting the mother to do someting like that to Ginko, since she bowed to him and was hiding her hands (I doubt any mother or father would kindly greet a man, that was about to kill their children).

Lol, I love your phrase! Hahahah! ^__^

Now, Ginko is getting more endangered in every episode. Come on, he's really a strange being. Not being afraid of dying. Hahah! Also, this episode has some kind of comedy. When Ginko was stabbed and is laid on the bed. He thought to himself "I wanna leave" with constipation kind of expression on his face. Haha! I really laughed there. This Mushishi is really awesome! A masterpiece!

these mushis work exactly like fungi, having mutliple mycelia sharing the same root.....

so Ginko now has a talking mushi companion?

bla bla bla

Just last episode they were talking about Ginko shall survive, and right now he get stabbed lol...i was expecting something like this ~~"
...
"Yeah come in and kill my children!" no one would do that..especially not the mother which gave birth ._.

At the beginning i was a little bit confused, why Ginko was so rude and not even searched for another way and just killed the first kid? hum that's not Ginko-like (imo)

Ginko's quite a guy. Giving them a mineral instead of their supposed son(s). I suppose it's his only way of protecting them from something they just can't comprehend and/or accept as not their own. Great episode~

one of the best eps so far, me thinks. I just loved this one....
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

Don't forget about his clothes..I haven't seen anyone else with those..I don't even know what year is where he lives but that sure is weird.
Creepy episode hehe..and this is the second time that I see Ginko doing some kind of swindle..although the other one with the mushishi in the kimono was funnier...but he sure seems more sly hehe

At first, I was surprised that Ginko chose to kill them, but I like that there are some Mushi that are just too dangerous to let live. These ones are pretty messed up little bastards. In the end, Ginko didn't have to kill them though and just trapped them in his bottle.

That's gotta be the weirdest ep yet. I had a WTF face on the entire time.

And I was really surprised when Ginko got stabbed. The whole series has been all magical and supernatural, and that was probably the first realistic thing to happen so far.

Man you guys said everything I wanted to say!!! Heck yeh!!! Ginko being stabbed is one of the most realistic things that have happened in the series.... The Evil Demon Spores are creepy and horrific... How come they learned all that stuff... I guess Ginko is right.... Learning through trail and fail.... yeh he parents were just acting as parents are supposed to behave... I guess the poor woman (Aki) is the sadest person in the world... and character so far in Mushishi... Loved Ginko this episode.... Nice one!

I love how creepy this episode is, really.

But the mother is just sad. Pouring child love for something that isn't even human. Hope after she isn't infected anymore she can bear her own human child and forget the mushi.

Getting stabbed made a good variety. Talking Mushi companion is interesting.

And I just realized I skipped episode 20 by accident.

Its like Roald Dahl says in the opening lines of his book 'Matilda', and I quote:

It's a funny thing about mothers and father. Even when their own child is the most disgusting little blister you could ever imagine, they still think he or she is wonderful

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a deliberate reference by the mangaka/writer to this social phenomenon that majority of parents across the globe seem to exhibit, given how there have been other subtle allusions elsewhere in the anime.

This is one of the thought-provoking episodes I've ever seen. It has some mix of suspense and thrill.

Ginko sure has straight decision in killing the children though he thought of much slower way to make the parents understand.

And what's more hard to decide when those children talked about not killing them and questioning Ginko's motive.

What an interesting conversation :)

Also, I would probably understand Aki's actions in attempt to kill Ginko
but hell yeah, he's the kindest man I've ever seen.
After being stabbed, he was like, "Ok. I want to leave here." lol

The end was something confusing yet satisfying. I hope we can see some talking slimes next time. xD

This has to be the most disturbing episode I’ve seen. It was absolutely amazing, it left me in suspense at every moment; I surely won’t forget about it anytime soon.

I actually panicked when Ginko was stabbed.

…Parents love their children no matter what they are, don’t they…?
I think, then procrastinate.
Therefore, I am.

At least the eerie-ish music at the end perfectly matched the blatant weirdness of this episode. I, too, was kind of shocked when Ginko got stabbed. When the screen just showed her grabbed him, I thought she was just trying to hold him back - it didn't even occur to me that he could have been stabbed... d'oh.

You know, I think Ginko should have destroyed them the first time... She could try to have another child, one that won't cause her grief.

But nice episode. I was worried when Ginko was stabbed. T_T
