Personally, i think everything's hard, if you want to be good at it. But it's jazz for me.
The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal name. The nameless is the beginning of heaven and Earth. The named is the mother of the ten thousand things.
I do not recall, Jesus ever saying "build churches, temples, and kill those who doesn't follow christianity..." nor he said "christianity is religion".

In the first place, nothing is easy. It depends as it varies with individuals.

I think it's hardest to be a really great blues musician but the other ones would be really hard to be great at too. If it's hardest just to play I think it would have to do with the individual more.

Opera, definately. Classical is close up there, too. But at least Classical can fit in certain settings if you're... trying to come off as privileged or something. But opera?

You can't rock that. At least I can rock Pacobell's Cannon. <3

.. Lol.

Classical. After all, Classical musicians are payed to play music written by other people. You're not competing with other people to play the better composition, you're competing with other people who play the same song on the same instrument.

For me, it's probably jazz. I'm classically trained on the piano so I was taught to follow rhythms and beats as they're written on the sheets. With jazz, though, it's all about breaking those rules of rhythm to create something more "outside of the box", so I had a lot of difficulty with that. I couldn't get used to it.

Some of the modern stuff can be difficult, too, particularly the ones with the weird melodic lines =/

The stuff they come out with for pop music and such are typically at a lower level than, say, most well-known classical pieces; hence, why I think classical music is thought of as more difficult. My thinking is that they want to sell sheet music that is accessible to the most people to make the most profit (after all, only a small percentage of people ever make it to the higher levels of music). If I go into a music store, the only pop sheet music I can find in the store is at a much lower level than what I learned to play, so as a result, I can practically play them the first or second time I try. I find it very hard to find something at higher levels to challenge myself.

Barroque compositions. I find them hard because they experiment with things that are very basic and exist mainly from an academic point of view. For something as drawn to the feelings of music as me it's really hard to find something to grab to on these compositions and make them sound how they are supposed to.

Jazz is not that hard once you're taught how to do it. It's not random at all, and the rythm is simply inverted on the most basic form. Everything has to be learned from the beggining.

It is hard today, to appreciate the blues, jazz or classical. Most of votes says jazz, blues or classical and yet, it's not so popular amongst some teenagers.

I do find some of todays music, quite simple and easy to listen to. Thus it's also being edited on computer and too much commercial. Music is everybody's possession. It's only publishers who think that people own it.

I've learned classical piano since I was in 2nd grade. Usually, when given a new practice piece (not concert variety), it takes me a week to master it.

Lately, my teacher's been teaching me jazz (and blues). Even simple stuff takes me two tot three weeks to entirely master.

Hmm techno... propably, but i wouldn't say it's hard to play it live. I see DJ's doing nothing, just something with cd's or however it's called. Maybe techno is hard to make, but to play? Hmm, dunno.

For me that would be country...ugh! Some of it is all right, but most I just can't stand. Also, harmony style music (like NSYNC). =_=;

Not one genre is easy, and not one genre is hard. It all depends on your skill with the instrument, and how much you want to play whatever genre.

If you're not motivated to do so, or its not fun to you, its going to be hard.

If you really enjoy it, then you'll be more motivated to learn, and it'll be funner, and easier with practice.

I play guitar, so this is how I feel when I play.

Rapping, isn't singing, just reminding you. Even i can rap, just give me rhythm, and i'll read any text, while rapping it for you. Alot of rappers today are talented, but some of them, don't even compose a song. Not even talking about, them playing on some musical instrument.

I find classical music the hardest.
For one I usually don't like playing classical musics in the first place.
And the pros play classical music so pro it makes me sound freaking shit.
Especially if its one of them classical music pieces that everyone knows like canon in D.
Jazz I find the easiest because I enjoy playing it the most thus practice it more =P

You know, I hate the likes of Canon in D and Fur Elise simply for the fact that they are insanely overplayed. Whenever people found out I could play the piano when there was a piano in the room, 99% of the time they'd ask me to play Fur Elise. There are so many amazing pieces out there that are just as good or better that the average person has not heard of.

Well the average person doesn't play the piano.
I played the piano.
Got to grade 3.
Was way too crap to play piano.
Heck no where near playing Canon in D.
I did play like schindlers list which was like the hardest music I ever played on the piano.
Then I picked up the clarinet 2 years after I thought I quit music for good.
Played for two years and got to grade 4.
That's where I played jazz and learned to love it.
But then I quit it because I got lazy and didn't practice.
Lost interest eventually and now I don't play any music.
Just listen to it. Like the average person.

Nothing is easy but there are genre of music which require more skill imo and those are classical and progressive rock music since you already expect something more complex, or maybe is just me expecting that :P

It's not 'playing', as you said,
But opera's realy really hard. :) It's cool though, 'cause once you can sing opera everything else is really easy. X'D
curiouser and curiouser :)
