Mama Creek/Goo Goo Babies episode
Episode purely focused on Super Creek & Yaeno Muteki.
Poor Yaeno Muteki can't catch a break, both of her races in the anime both ended up as losses.

Big fan of her trainer though, love the design of her.
Next episode we're getting the foreign horses!
Poor Obey Your Master getting zero fanfare for her entrance to the country lol.

Nice episode focusing on Super Creek and Yaeno Muteki.

Obey Your Master needs more love. <3

And things aren't going too well for Yaeno Muteki. Don't give up!

So far, I have liked this season as much as the first one.

Super Creek (#17) won the 1988 Kikuka Sho, while Yaeno Muteki (#1) finished at 10th.

Super Creek absolutely slaps today and she is nowhere near her cute persona in the game, and I'm here for it x

@dazedcowcow62 I'm always amazed at the sheer attention to detail this show gets. I thought cutting the rail at the final leg's opening may have been made up to emphasize the point about mental stamina but nope Creek really did that! Can't wait to see more of her.

I didn't expect to see goo goo babies in the blob form while taking a barrage of emotional damage from the journalists lol. Super Creek has a very cute relationship with the trainer Fumino Nase. It's even sweeter to learn about her real life counterpart the legendary jockey YutakaTake and how the horse nabbed him so he would choose to ride Creek for the Kikkuka Sho. This is not just a victory but the first GI victory for both of them. Definitely need to see more of Fumino's involvement in the story. Great introduction to Super Creek.

Man, I am loving the take on stamina demon Super Creek here. A loyal uma musume that will do anything for her trainer, without giving a F about opponents. At least for now.

You CANNOT convince me that our "prodigy" Fumino Nase is not a reference to Take Yutaka, who was barely in his 20s and Super Creek was his first horse.
They were extremely close irl and people used to joke that they are married.

They played the same pre-race fanfare for the Kikkuka Sho as in Pretty Derby S2 Ep2. Love these details.

Proud for our new Cinderella. If they explore the bond between Creek and Nase like irl it will be interesting.

At this rate, I don't know which character to root for, which is always a great thing for a sports show.

[Post Credits] I feel bad for Obey Your Master at the end.

Edit: I feel it awkward that Mejiro Ardan suddenly has started pairing up with Chiyono O rather than Creek.

I’m not in on the Goo Goo Babies joke people keep saying lol, but it sounds funny, Mommy Freak I understand tho because it rhymes and she has that mom energy. Jokes aside, this one was all about Super Creek and her trainer Fumino Nase, cool to hear about the real life references regarding the two of them, as well as how Super Creek won the race being the same as the real life counterpart, that is really sick that she used that tight window to shoot way past her original position, that’s like some hidden horse tech lol. I will say tho, I understand that the move is “hard to see” for spectators, but I have to imagine it you had been watching Creek the whole time, you would notice her move there, but I guess no one was since she shocked everyone lol, it made her seem more impressive tho so I’ll take it.

Poor Yaeno Muteki tho, she took another L here but at least she’s got a great trainer in her corner to get her back on track, I figured she wouldn’t be winning this one anyway but I still wanted to see her win, hopefully she makes a comeback at some point. And at the end we got teased on the foreign horses, one from Italy and one from good ol’ USA, the Italian one, Toni Bianca, seemed a bit arrogant with her statement that there’s more beyond tiny Japan, but the poor American (apparently named Obey Your Master) didn’t have anyone waiting for her when she arrived lol, but with her design and reference to rock & roll, I think she’s gonna be an immediate favorite for me, I’m excited to see how these two new horses shake up the competition.

@TheColonel76 The "goo goo babies" is a meme global players have hooked onto after Creek insists the trainer to play this game with her in one scenario. It's basically where she gets to dote on you and you simply accept.

Meanwhile this is a reference to the real life jockey, Take Yutaka, who was seen baby talking with Super Creek. When young and prodigious Take was struggling to choose his horse, Creek, who wasn't even in the roster, nibbled on his sleeves. It was as if Creek chose him, and he accepted it as his fate. He went on to become the most successful jockey from Japan. So it's as if Super Creek has raised him into a champion.

So the "I am gonna dote on you" trait came from both the jockey (literally) and the horse (figuratively). Furthermore, Creek was really a gentle natured and intelligent stallion who just looked like a demon on the loose in the racetracks due to his physicality.

Ah thanks for the explanation, I figured it was a global players thing too because I never heard it until now. Also that real life stuff is very interesting too, I love how it crafted her Uma Musume personality into what it is.

Absolute CinUMA

I believe in waifufied Yutake Take Nase Fumino supremacy🛐

They did Super Creek the comeback and miracle absolute justice. AOTS already & Best episode of the series ez. Just not because I am heavily baised towards Creek I swear😭

Partially the reason I am watching this because of her and to see her finally in action was so satisfying😭😭

Pure heart+ Inside scoop+ ramp up+ homestech haste

Idk if it's accurate but according to game she had a bad injury which forced to miss classics and only recovered now and somehow luckily got the chance to race. Rest was history for Super Creek & the greatest jocky in JRA🫡
And the way anime handled that in just one episode with Nase was so freaking beautiful man. Step aside Oguri there's a new princess in town.

Sad to see Muteki as punching bag for 2-3 times now but Mommy Creek aura & cuteness is unmatched.

We gonna play so much goo goo babies with life on the line💙

@Laplace_kun the entire thing was made more degenarte than it actually is lol.

It's her winning scenario after she completes her goals she wants to headpat her trainer.
And after completing Finals she says "who's a good baby you are"
It's actually quite wholesome but yeah internet gonna internet. I don't hate it tho. Memes are fun.

Finally an episode with one of my favorite umas Super creek.

Love how her journey and relationship with her trainer Yutaka Take aka waifufied Nase fumino san is displayed. The chosen one who got to play goo goo babies with creek :3

The race was great and how creek used the innerscoop skill one of the most difficult things to do while having that much of patience and taking risk of hanging back waiting for that one smallest of chances. But what a goated move by creek.

Yaeno muteki my poor girl cant catch a break and another loss added to her list. But fortunately she has a determined amazing traner to smack some good inspiration and sense in her to prepare her for future endeavors. Hope we see it during this season.
Finally we get a peek at some of the foreign horses strating with Toni bianca who is a little cocky but it comes from a more experienced side but our girl tamamo just got fired by that snide comment, she was just grinning waiting for the challenge. Meanwhile the final guest Obey your master didnt recieve any paparazzi reception like toni but she isnt fazed a bit and ready to rock n' roll.
Really excited to see the other foreign horses and the upcoming races. Its gonna be hype.

tbh for JP players not goo goo babies creek is also a shock when her kikuka is released in manga……
in the anime it is mentioned that creek is qualified to kikuka only bcs another uma exits, guess what happened to that uma irl after giving up her chance?

there should be some familarity between these 2……

at last Tony Bianca faces a bunch of journalists at the airport while no one waiting for obey is mainly bcs

Super Creek seems to be popular going by the praise she's getting here and I can see why. Her personality is gentle and friendly and her trust in her trainer is unbreakable.

The result was for her to win the Kikuka Sho race so effortlessly. The timing of her burst to pass everyone at the right precise moment was excellent planning. I do feel bad for Muteki, as she did come into this race wanting to win will all that she's got, but the end result for her was disappointing. I'm glad that her trainer gave her the inspiration she needed to bounce back from this defeat and train harder with a clearer goal in mind. =)

Now we have new Uma's from other countries arriving, one will all the fanfare and one who didn't get any at all. Either way, I'm expecting them to be a good challenge to Tamamo Cross, Oguri Cap and the other in future episodes to come.

The show is losing some of it's appeal to me. It's less about Cap and more broadly focused. Of course, game players really love that, but as someone who hasn't ever played or knows nothing about it, other than from your comments, it's just not the same. Still very enjoyable, just not anywhere near as magical as the Oguri Cap centered episodes. She is a remarkable character in her design as the ultimate underdog. Her innocence, beauty, humor, and of course, her will to win. An entire series focused only on her rise and eventual retirement would have been perfect for me.

lol of course they would pick a female trainer for Super Creek, If Still in Love appears in anime one day, the trainer will definitely be a woman too.
The only reason they made the trainer a woman is because of Super Creek’s close relationship with her trainer in the game, as well as her close relationship with her real-life jockey. If the trainer were male, it would make the game’s self-insert fans angry and jealous, since they believe only they should be close to the Uma Musume. So what’s the difference with a female trainer? Because close friendships between girls are usually seen as naturally affectionate and clingy without making self-insert fans feel jealous, you can see girls hugging, kissing each other’s cheeks, calling each other “dear,” and self-insert fans wouldn’t take it seriously since that’s just part of girl friendship in asian culture. Game producers are always extremely careful not to offend their target demographic, because one mistake could be fatal. You’re underestimating how insane the fans over there can be.

@Ranchpig At least they tied things back to the "Cinderella" part of the name of this spin-off series this ep, with underdog Super Creek suddenly coming into the spotlight—so there's some sort of thematic resonance with the main story. Plus like Oguri's trainer said, this was an opportunity to learn about the importance of mental stamina rather than just physical stamina, which will presumably be important later on. That said, I agree that part of what made season 1 of Cinderella Gray great was the the efficient storytelling, which this definitely isn't—especially concerning since we're now already 1/5 of the season completed without clear direction for Oguri except for wanting a rematch with Tamamo Cross.

I don't mind spending time with side characters in general, which can be really impactful and memorable moments even if they don't influence the main story line. Rice Shower and Twin Turbo's mini arcs in season 2 were both great, for instance. But I wonder if you're on to something with the gap between gacha players and anime only viewers, since it does kind of feel like the writers are skipping some of the background information here, assuming that we'll just fill in the gaps with what we know from the game (which I also don't have experience with). For instance, last episode when Dicta Striker was walking down the hallway and passes Super Creek in slow motion, it felt like it was supposed to be some sort of big reveal or significant in some way, but anime only viewers can only react with, "huh, I guess we'll be seeing that person again later?" Even after the flashbacks and little bits of training, I don't quite feel like I have a sense for who Super Creek is, or even Yaeno Muteki despite us seeing her several times these last two episodes. I need a little more to grasp on to besides that the girls want to get faster and win races. That isn't enough on it's own to make me care about them, unless again, maybe they expect us now to already know about their motivations and character quirks because of the mobile game?

@ZwHwY Dicta Striker was talking about competing with Oguri in Arima Kinen. Arima Kinen is 2500m. The longest Oguri has run is 2000m. Dicta Striker wants to challenge Oguri. She only knows Tamamo and Oguri will be the tough opponents she'll face in the Arima Kinen.

Meanwhile, Creek is already established in this episode to be a long distance expert. So I wonder what that scene meant?

(Game doesn't cover this and I haven't read CG manga)

It's a bit spoiler, but Super Creek is one of Oguri's genmates and biggest rivals, I think it would be incomplete if we don't explore her as well. Imagine telling Senna's story without knowing well who Prost is, or Verstappen's without Hamilton.

I've thought this since s1, but the sound effects are always insanely good. The cleat sounds when the umas run in a tight pack are exquisite! As always, those twenty-some minutes just fly by. Creek gets a major spotlight here before her become Goo Goo Babies, so in that sense this episode is especially valuable.

Anyway, since @dazedcowcow62 already shared the JRA official video above, I'll post the KTV version here. I've always loved the moment on Kyoto's outer track where the inner rail disappears and the horses merge, it's the most I like instant. When Yutaka Take, in his second year as a jockey, could already deliver such masterful riding, you can only call him a genius. It might be wishful thinking, but I do hope we'll see a worthy successor soon.
There's a big hill around the third corner, and ideally you should "climb it slowly and descend it slowly." As with other courses, the pace begins to quicken from this point in preparation for the final spurt, but if you gain too much speed on the downhill, the centrifugal force causes tremendous loss. (Gold Ship and Mr. C.B. were among the few who overcame this.) Creek endured patiently until the final straight, then, true to textbook form, unleashed her remaining stamina in a burst of power for a perfect victory. Magnificent.

And so, here's a selection of past Kikuka Sho races won by horses (for now) unrelated to Umamusume.

2022: "Remember his name" - Ask Victor More, Gate No.14 (JRA-EN) (KTV)
The crown name is "Ask" and "More." Owner Toshihiro Hirosaki uses only "Ask" for horses he owns outright, but when co-owning with others, he adds "More." Victor was co-owned with Shigeyuki Yoshida of Shadai Farm. With Satsuki Sho winner Geoglyph and Derby winner Do Deuce both absent, the heavy favorite role went to Gaia Force, who was riding a winning streak after taking the St Lite Kinen, leaving Victor as the second favorite.
Since 2021, Kyoto Racecourse had been undergoing massive renovations, so the Kikuka Sho was being held at Hanshin instead. The first 1000m went in 58.7 seconds, a blazing pace set by front-runner Nishino Hades that hinted at an exhausting race. Running in second place with calculated patience, Victor surged to the lead before the fourth corner. It looked like an early move, but he managed to fend off Boldog Hos's furious charge, clinging on by a nose to win. The time even beat Narita Top Road's Hanshin Daishoten record by 0.1 seconds.
But in 2023, after three disappointing runs, tragedy struck: on August 8, while resting at a farm, he suffered multi-organ failure due to heatstroke and passed away, never to make his comeback. Please, remember his gritty, tenacious runs, and his name.

2017: "A single miracle piercing the darkness" - Kiseki, Gate No.13 (JRA-JP) (KTV)
After the Japanese Derby that year, summer grew hectic as each camp prepared for the future. Kiseki, who hadn't won since his debut and was coming off a six-month slump, regained form and even finished second in the Kobe Shimbun Hai, earning priority entry to the Kikuka Sho.
On race day, heavy rain fell. In such conditions, what mattered wasn't speed but extraordinary power and stamina beyond the generation. The track was brutally heavy, water splashing everywhere, and right behind the tightly packed field, the most miserable place to be, was Kiseki.
As they swung around the third and fourth corners, nearly the entire field fanned wide, already stretched to their limits. Covered in mud alongside his jockey, Kiseki burst through to seize a shining crown. The miracle itself embodied in that form.
He would go on to contest many more G1 races, running 29 times from debut until the 2021 Arima Kinen, winning 4 in total. Though this Kikuka Sho was his last victory, he repeatedly finished in the money, sometimes making bold front-running escapes, other times closing from behind, showing versatility that endeared him to fans as a great horse.
By the way, the Japanese word "kiseki" (miracle) popped up a lot in this episode, and just the other day, a horse named Sign, one of Kiseki's progeny, recorded its first JRA win, still fresh in memory.

2005: "The shocking Triple Crown" - Deep Impact, Gate No.7 (JRA-JP) (KTV)
When will you finally let him appear, Kaneko-san?! A legendary racehorse and leading sire. With this victory, Deep went 7-for-7 and became the second undefeated Triple Crown winner since Symboli Rudolf.
At the time, after the Narita Brian boom had faded, Japanese racing was in dire straits with plummeting sales. Then Deep appeared, sweeping through to the Satsuki Sho undefeated. Perhaps seizing the opportunity, JRA acted overzealously, even erecting a statue at Tokyo Racecourse on Derby Day... Before the Derby was even run!
On Kikuka Sho day too, they pre-sold 300 "Triple Crown Blessing Bento" before the race. If he had lost, Japanese racing might truly have been dealt a fatal blow.
With Yutaka Take holding the headstrong Deep back in mid-pack on the rail, the final straight saw Admire Japan, who had been chasing runaway leader Shadow Gate, pull ahead cleanly. Just when it seemed the Triple Crown would be denied, Deep stormed down the outside with a devastating Homestretch Haste to claim victory.
From there, Deep Impact left behind achievements worthy of the title "Culmination of Modern Japanese Racing," too many to list here without risking a ban for me. And Admire Japan, later on, even achieved a miracle that Deep himself could not, specifically, securing a bank loan.

1944: "The vanished Derby winner" - Race void (No videos)
The Empire, locked in the Pacific War's decisive phase, still held horse races, ostensibly as military horse training ability tests. The Kikuka Sho was renamed the "Special Long-Distance Race," a boring title. Winner of that year's the Japanese Derby (then "Tokyo Yushun Daikyōsō"), Kaisou, was indeed a proper Derby horse.
But due to a change in the start point, the race was supposed to be two laps of the inner course. Instead, ALL runners mistakenly took the outer course on the second lap, running 3100m... longer than regulations allowed. All six entrants were disqualified, Kaisou included, robbed of his potential double crown.
His fate thereafter remains unclear. A 1959 JRA publication claimed he became a military horse assigned to the Nagoya Division commander. But in a 1983 issue of Yushun, former racing official Kōmei Yoshizaki questioned this: "If Kaisou became a stallion but was deemed unsuitable and then repurposed as an officer's horse, that makes sense. But for a Derby winner to be made into a riding horse straightaway is hard to believe."

Super Creek is either a big girl or her trainer is short. At any rate while she was running in the pack I got the impression she was pacing herself, waiting for her opportunity while all the other girls were trying their hardest just to keep up.

I just love how they depict the races. I don't watch sports in the real world but this is really full of suspense.

Nah, this shit is fucking amazing...

I loved it. I really love it when stories also give even minimal development to characters who, while not main characters, will still be relevant later on, so it doesn't feel like they "came out of nowhere."

I love the detail how Super Creek's racing stance here is the same as in the game

I'm a bit disappointed that the foreign uma doesn't speak their respective native language though

I'll be honest, I really hoped Yaeno Muteki would win the Kikuka Sho and get her second crown, but reality said otherwise. The young genius trainer Take Yutaka, known here as Nasu Fumino, who trains Super Creek, won this long-distance race. I love the relationship dynamics between Nase and Creek, they're both so cute. And this is where the legendary story of Nase and Creek begins.

Yaeno Muteki, I know you're not suited for long-distance races, but you've shown your best talent. Honestly, I teared up seeing Yaeno cry, and it ends with Yaeno continuing to grow stronger, and this is why Yaeno is one of my favorite characters in Cingray.

Toni Bianca, I like her design, but in terms of character vibe, I’m sure she’ll be defeated quickly, lol. BEAT HER ASS, TAMA-CHAN. And closing with my glorious American Umamusume: OBEY. YOUR. MASTER. I feel so sorry for her that no one is paparazzi-ing her.

Squishmallow Creek, LOOOL

(I want one TBH)

also... Creek OP, I couldn't beat her [Legend Race] cause she just runs so fast...

Can't wait for GooGooBaby time... tho they gave her a Female Trainer (whereas the game seems to have given her a Male Trainer), probably to make it less awkward when the GooGooBaby time comes up.

Great introduction to Super Creek and her trainer. Wonderful win and this is only just the start. Endurance greater than even Oguri Cap and one of the best trainers who adds in the factor of strategy. Also poor Yaeno Muteki on her loss today but she'll keep racing. Hope we'll see a win from her next time.

Also got some overseas racers in now. One with much reception while the other none at all I wonder which will be more fearsome? my bet is on the latter. I want to see the one from england get humbled a bit as well.
