Haven't played the game before but the main character seems to suffer from a problem of memory loss. The main antagonist is the Gnosia and this anime gives off a combination of sci-fi and survival elements.

I'm not sure how to I feel about the animation quality yet. It gives off a game vibe but mixes in style of from the visual novel. Not a bad start though imo, plenty of potential here for storytelling.

Petit Depotto's 2019 RNG social deduction VN RPG indie game getting Aniplex's treatment, it's a legit surprise.

In a somewhat similar fashion as Among Us, the space-time continuum where the main newbie character of Yuuri tries to deduce what's happening to him and the rest of the space crew with Setsu and the rest who knows about Gnosia - a deduction game where the players' time loops form a collective towards the mind-instlling memory feature as Gnos to figure out who has the Gnosia infection and isolate him/her into cold sleep, and also getting everyone in and out of the time loops as from the character perspectives.

In the same way, since everyone can and could be an enemy, Yuuri's back has several targets, one of which is the popular SQ. And the deep diving into the character time loops, Yuuri, Setsu and SQ finding themselves locked within Gina's time loop, and Yuuri having to make a choice between either Setsu or SQ on who could be Gnosia, it's Setsu chosen next to be subjected to cryo-sleep, which she passes her Silver Key to him to figure out the truth from there since his guide is gone, and the truth erupted of SQ having the Gnosia infection, which causes Yuuri to reset his time loop, back to the beginning.

MAISONdes's OP featuring some big names like Giga and TeddyLoid, it's truly a stacked artist appearance for this show.

Regardless, give this a bit of time to flesh its game-to-anime-story out.

I found about this anime and game a while ago from Akarin's tweet and been waiting for the anime since. Recently picked up the game on sale as well but haven't played much due to busy schedule. Hoping for a banger season.

This episode was a good introduction to the whole concept and the main rules of the "game".
Some parts are a bit unlogical, but those are needed for the game to be, well a game, so please don't be too harsh on that!
As somebody who played the game until the end, I couldn't be happier of the budget this adaptation got.

Gnosia is an indie game, similar to among us, but in a visual novel stlye without voice over.
So hearing them speak (with an outstanding seiyuu cast) and just seeing the back of their interesting designs is a delight! (originaly they only had 2D spirits)
I hope we will get some extra sceens and info about their universe and backgrounds, because the game left a lot as a mistery or only explained in text, as the game did not have a lot of CGs or nearly at all.

I'm super excited to see how the will adapt the interesting loops, and how much screentime one-one will get. And will they follow the game and introduce the new chracters little by little, or not.

Maybe I'm biased by my love of the game, but I think that the first episode was really nice,,, The animation was actually better than I expected, interesting and dynamic camera shots too. They didn't have to go so hard on the voice cast but I'm glad they did lol. I hope Yuri will get some more characterization as the season goes on, it makes sense for them to be a blank slate at first, but I hope the anime will maybe stray a little form the structure of the game to make this series worthwhile even without the backing of the original material. Well, let's say I'm hyped for the next episodes.

@EcchiGodMamster @talortoo As in the Arknights adaptation, protagonist is deliberately genderless to avoid the wars between yuri fanboys and self-insert waifu seekers expected in this type of adaptation. But I wouldn't be surprised if that in itself sparks controversy due to the potential non-binary nature of the protagonist, or the fan translation violating that like in the case of that CGI show about genderless diamond characters.

Setsu is anime girl Erwin Smith. She began the episode with a literal meme.

So is Danganronpa, but creator at the time was playing Among Us.

So the first episode adapts the first loop. Okayish pacing, I hope it would be 24 episodes to flesh out more on characters and give us interesting story events. 12 episodes means they have to rush a lot.

Good point, the Anime reuses the SFX and remixes the soundtrack from the game, and the voting room looks cool. I'm a bit disappointed because the OP kinda spoil Chipie's nature tho.

But seems to me put everyone in cold sleep at once and you would have the Gnosia.
You would think LeVi could knock all people out for this.

I hope this isn't a ultimate time loop.

Interesting first episode. Not sure how the concept can sustain a series, since there was a time loop and now we "know" who the monster was. Though the ED shows extra characters so I assume there's going to be some twist next ep which means the loops are different somehow.

Still, the premise is a bit odd. They could just put half the people into cold sleep at a time to see if the gnosia is still detected -- though I guess the explanation of cold sleep not being very safe is perhaps the justification to avoid that.

And the AI should be able to detect someone still moving around during warp, which should tell them who it was by day two regardless (though it'd still eliminate someone that night). The AI is obviously flexible enough to agree to the amogus game, so it's odd that doesn't happen.

I was certainly impressed by the production quality. The dynamic camera went a little overboard, though; I had to rewind ten seconds at one point because I was so distracted by its movement that I wasn't reading the subtitles.

Anyway, I don't see how the Gnosia gets out of this particular situation alive. The A.I. is supposed to blow up the ship to protect the people not on the ship, so the Gnosia is stopped whether the humans aboard identify the threat or not. Then again, maybe that's the point. If the Gnosia want to wipe out humanity, some are just going to find themselves on suicide missions. In the same vein, if cold sleep is an effective way to stop the Gnosia, why not just insist that everybody on board be put into cold sleep until the ship can go to a Gnosia testing facility? (It would be silly to think that such a facility wouldn't be built at some point.) Honestly, the show should've done a better job showing why cold sleep can't simply unthaw people just as quickly as it freezes them. Telling the audience that it's dangerous doesn't nearly have the same impact.

Finally, the apparent protagonist is also rather uninteresting compared to the rest of the cast. I honestly didn't care what happened to them. I did care about Setsu, though, and was sad to see her put in cold sleep.

In short, the premise is actually interesting, but there are issues with the overall logic as well as the characterization of the protagonist. I'll give it another episode, but I voted that this one was just okay.

As a game it's a really fun mechanic, but I'm not sure how well it's going to work as a narrative device for anime.

The problem is the cold sleep mechanic and its ability to determine whether one of the crew is Gnosia or not. They are all doomed if it isn't found, whether by the ship self-destructing or by never being allowed to make port again, so it would be logical to, one by one, put crew into cryosleep, check, and then wake them up again; yes, there's the note that it's been banned because it's unstable but if they're doomed anyway then it's worth the risk.

Without that mechanic it works and you get something like 'They Were 11' or 'Gall Force', where there's no easy out to identify the 'demon' within, and paranoia reigns.

Of course the other problem is the timey-wimey nonsense which basically guarantees that there's no set Gnosia, otherwise the problem would've been resolved in one or two timeloops by Setsu and they'd be on their way. This would also make no sense from a narrative standpoint though, unless there's some kind of BS quantum element to the Gnosia to let them slip from one infectee to another between loops.

The first episode exceeded my expectations. Very interesting concept, that can go either very badly or very interestingly. I don't know how to feel about the MC yet. I get that he just woke up after amnesia, but so far from all the characters, he seems the least interesting. I hope that after this "demo game", he'll gain some confidence.
The production is amazing. I don't know if the studio saw some hidden gem in this indie game, but it's nice to see even a small source material getting such a good treatment. Can't wait to see the rest of the cast, there are some cool designs!

the cube Detsu gave Yuri is...?
haven't played the game but like others above have said, the concept is very interesting and can either be well executive or poorly executed.

It’s amazing seeing one of my favorites games receive an adaptation! I think it looks beautiful and I really love how the UI from the game is integrated into the world of the show. The art and animation is great too! Also, knowing how good the story is I know this anime is going to be one of is not the best of the season, possibly the year! (Hopefully all time!!) 10/10 and it’s only up from here.

I’m excited to see to rest of the adaption and see how the story develops and characters come to life I’ve been waiting all year for this moment! 😭❤️

I must also confess a sin… I too, voted Setsu out when I played.

Actually, forget the coldsleep problem, there's a much more fundamental, premise-destroying flaw...

LeVi, the computer. Okay, a couple points:

1- Internal sensors: The computer knew exactly where everyone was at any given moment, as shown when Yuri's visitor was told to leave his room and return to hers. Now, even if we hand-wave that they're disabled during warp when the Gnosia can wander around while humans are unconscious, there's the little problem of the restraints. Yuri was tied into bed to secure him for the warp, so anyone else would be too, right? Then when the Gnosia got up and went murder-rambling it would have to leave those computer-controlled restraints, leaving a hardware-based record that could be used to identify them.

2- Uhhh, it can detect a Gnosia onboard? If they have a detector, then they can isolate all the crew into separate hermetically-sealed spaces far enough away from each other to prevent interference and be done with it. Or if it somehow messes with the sensors until it's put in cryo, toss crew one by one into a disable escape pod/lifeboat/whatever they have, tethered to the ship, and scan it then.

There are only two cases that would invalidate these methods: One would be if the Gnosia can corrupt/control the computer, at which point they may as well just walk out the airlock already, and second would be if there was some kind of Vault-Tec level psychological experiment going on here and the computer is playing referee and recorder all in one.

Basically this has great mechanics for a game but starts falling apart hard as a story.

@Apratim I like the game ending a lot! It takes a lot of work to get to the true ending, though!

I hope they adapt the whole thing, but I don't think doing so in 20-something episodes as I've heard the anime will be would be the best idea? It really depends on how much they adapt per episode ^^
