The official website of the Chainsaw Man anime series announced a compilation movie on Tuesday, revealing a key visual (pictured). The re-edited version of the television anime will also include Chainsaw Biyori (Chainsaw Days), adapting the bonus chapters featured at the end of the manga volumes.

The compilation movie will stream exclusively on Abema on September 5 at 9:00 p.m. Crunchyroll will also stream the movie in two parts in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East and CIS.

Produced by MAPPA, the television anime adapting Tatsuki Fujimoto's action fantasy manga aired in 12 episodes in Fall 2022. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with subtitles and subsequently streamed an English dub.

Chainsaw Man Movie: Reze-hen (Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc), sequel to the television anime, will open in theaters in Japan on September 19.

Fujimoto began drawing Chainsaw Man in Weekly Shounen Jump in December 2018. The manga ended its first part with 97 chapters in December 2020, with the second part beginning in Shounen Jump+ in July 2022. Shueisha published the 21st volume on July 4, with the 22nd volume planned for a September 4 release.

VIZ Media simulpublishes the manga on its Shounen Jump platform and released the 18th volume on May 6, with the 19th volume scheduled to be published on October 7. Shueisha's Manga Plus service also simulpublishes the manga in English, Spanish, Thai, French, and Portuguese.

I wonder if they will include somehow a scene with Muscle Devil. I remember that significant number of CSM fans were upset after not seeing this, well, tertiary character in the TV series.

It's always nice to see recap movies. Part of me wonders "but why?", but the other part thinks it can be a nice way to promote this anime before the Reze-hen sequel movie's premiere.

@deg Yeah, I heard it too. It's quite logical when you think about it. Working on a pre-existing material, especially when there are no brand new scenes lasting more than several seconds, makes it fairly easy and cheap to make. Way easier and cheaper than making a movie from scratch. The most time takes working on a scenario (turning a TV series into one recap movie) and cutting the TV material properly (including addition of extra cuts).

Never really been a fan of compilation movies, since they oftentimes remove scenes that are pivotal to the original source material. Guess we'll see what happens though.

Cool that they are atleast adding some extra content!! Any extra content is welcome for me. Usually compilation movies only re-edit scenes so this sounds great in my ears

I'm always glad about compilation movies, because it means that there's a demand for the show. It also means that the anime industry is making money; hopefully a portion of that money makes animator's conditions better or gives creatives leeway to pitch riskier and innovative ideas. Of course, I know that most of the money is going to suits as it would in every industry.

Very happy to watch new MAPPA peak content. Hopefully the new content will add something new and good to the story.

Does this mean they are preparing the audience for a second season?

@RobertBobert Most likely considering that they shared interest of adapting also part 2 of the manga and also since this is wsj series this will most likely get full adaptation because a lot of wsj based anime adaptations series both in the past and especially present gets full adaptation treatment.

@jacobPOL If they really are going to adapt the entire manga, I can't even imagine what kind of ratings the second part will get when it hits the screens. Considering the last chapters.

@RobertBobert I cannot comment on that, however soon after catching up to kingdom, setective conan, bleach manga I will be catching up to every ongoing weekly shonen jump and shonen jump+ magazines so also I am soon gonna check out chainsaw man part 2.

But from what I have seen what people have been talking about what have been happening in chainsaw man 2 I am not surprised since this is Fujimoto we are talking about and the things that are currently happening were also in the anime.

@jacobPOL I'm not talking about the plot itself or the quality of the writing, but rather the overall surreal presentation. Since anime-only viewers seem to have taken the show as a typical edgy bloody battle shonen.

@RobertBobert I guess they are not used to these type surreal absurd series considering that gintama had a lot of absurd adult jokes, kagura throwing up in church, people throwing shit, naked man walking with visible di** albeit censored, or one character pulling drill into other character a** scene alongside many other scenes.

@jacobPOL I didn't go that far with Gintama. Just the first couple of episodes, which felt like a delusional version of Kenshin.

@RobertBobert it is very different series, the series at the begining spends introducing characters focusing on these eitht the series being split in to self contained slice of life gag comedy series ehich is 95% of the series and also main serious arcs that moves the plot forward.

Also in order to have best experience with gintama it is recommended to be experienced in classic weekly shonen jump such as one piece death note bleach naruto dragon ball fist of the north star so on and so forth and some clasdic series outsie wsj like berserk vinland detective conan lupin and similar, also being somewhat experienced with japanese culture/history in order to fully understand these jokes considering how many meanings within hidden meanings are there that are parodies of a certain series gintama parodies that requires context. Even i sometimes did notbrealized some of the scenes were parodies. The series is
very profoundly written with this series has one of the best female cast out there being independent from man having unique personality and also being very strong physically emotionally and no matter how many adult jokes none of the female characters have been sexualized nor no fan service. Also it is different from most wsj contemporaries with the mc actually killed a lot of people with a matter of self defense.

I recommend watching these two short scenes they are hillarious:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Gintama/comments/1mzx806/gintoki_explains_how_filler_works/

With the staff used self awareness of gintama to explain how filler works multiple type of fillers and the risks associated with it and why they took alternative formula in 2006 series that waste 5 minutes of the episode to make actual 5 minutes shorter in duration that achieves very natural flow fast pacing as if they were adapting more chapters while adapting less that ensures of never overpacing the manga while having no need to create filler (this is also what one piece uses) before eventually gintama switched to seasonal due to running out of source material at the end of 2006 series.

And also second https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfPm3iaSIk4

The scene that was used to apologize after being on 2 year hiatus in gintama 2015 series aftet 2011 run out of source again so they had to create original movie that woulf serve as a conclusion to the anime because they thought they would never return adapting the manga yet 2 years after the movie they were allowed to continue adapting the manga with them making apology scene for the hiatus but also with the original movie which was actually parody and mocking of goverment official and they were so dedicated to mock the politician that they did it in secret even wsj editorial deprartment was surprised about it.

Sorry for long post😅

Was going to rewatch the series anyway before the Reze movie, so I'll just see this recap instead. Good to know there are extra bits included.
