After hearing alot of praise for this manga, Here we are.
I haven't read the manga but that might change because this first episode was 10/10. I caught my lonely ass smiling lol. Anime of the season? Quite possibly. :)

Alright, the premise is cute, but it's because of Kaoruko herself. The directing of the first half was great, but the rest was just decent. Can't blame the anime, though; CloverWorks is going all-in with Kisekoi S2 so far.

I once laughed at the overhype thread, but I can see why now (though I won't normalize the word 'overhype' over a single episode).

7.5/10 for Ep 1 only.

This reminds me of a similar anime, but not entirely, because the main character is a real delinquent in the anime I'm referring to. But here, it seems like he's just a delinquent in appearance, but he's actually a chill guy.

Honestly, even though the female lead seems the most radiant and popular, I'm more interested in how the main character will navigate this phase of insecurity. Of course, with a touch of romance, I hope the main character can develop and start breaking down the walls that separate him from his friends and the female lead.

This was a lovely premiere episode! <3

I thought the animation was smooth and the directing purposeful. The character design is beautiful; I love the two main characters, they're simple, but also have a distinct look.

The story is nice. Rintaro's inside world is not only relatable, but very touching, too. His blossoming relationship with Kaoruko is adorable. Also, the two HS side by side with the rich girls' institution looking down on the boys' school is a fun concept.

I'm looking forward to the next episodes!

@Zarutaku This comment made me chuckle a bit

@Nirinbo True, it's really obvious indeed, the guy is a handsome and huge protector, he looks like a bad boy but is actually gentle and kind-hearted. The ultimate female fantasy, no wonder it's rated so high.

Good start to this series that I came into blind but by scanning through the comments apparently the manga is highly rated. I gotta say that the main female character, Waguri, is cute and pretty, excellent character design and it reminds me of Blue Box from a couple of seasons ago (but hopefully no harsh love triangle here).

Anyways, I find it kind of strange in having a boy's high school next to a girl's private high school and I chuckled when I noticed that the girl's high school has their curtains closed except at the end when Waguri peeked out. So now that they have both realized that they both go the schools next to each other I wonder how long it will take before they start walking together.

Pacing was too fast. It felt a bit... rushed.

Kaoruko's strange moan when she said she was flustered weirded me out, but I guess that's just the typical anime.

Amazing ep

After waiting 3 weeks for it to become available, I finally got to watch it. Damn my favorite romance manga really got one of the best adaptations as if rn. Let’s pray the rest does well.

Nice to see our mc and fmc, Rintaro and Kaoruko. Also, his gorgeous mother. Great animation so far.

The Chidori and Kikyo beef is so strong, that boys and girl mingling is a sin.

Kaoruko is truly a glutton. Man oh man does that cake look good.

Love how Kaoruko respected who Rintaro was and you could tell she really wanted to meet him. Clutch save for Kaoruko by Rintaro.

This ep adapted ch1.

10/10

This was SO good! It might sound rather cliche to have a delinquent boy from a boy's public high school and a girl from an elite girl's private high school fall in love, but how it's done here is extremely well done. Rintaro is always seen as scary. No matter who it is (other than his friends), whenever they see him, they run. They're afraid of him. The girls at Kikyo shun the boys at his school. They will have nothing to do with them. Enter Kaoruko. She eats regularly at Rintaro's family's cake shop, and seems to be a girl that must be protected at all times. She doesn't see Rintaro that way. She thinks he's kind. So, when he saves her from some punks who want to get to him, she believes he is truly a kind person. And then he finds out that she's a student at Kikyo. This is going to be fun!

Also, Kaoruko's voice is done by Inoue Honoka, the daughter of the legendary Inoue Kikuko. She sounds just as soft and kind as her mother.

This is quality right here. Cinematography is probably my favorite thing about this and dialogues come close. Very enticing and makes me wanna watch more. I haven't started a new anime in more than a year, but I think I'm gonna be glad that I came back with this show. Good stuff.

A scary-looking boy from the worst school and a frail girl from a good family who attends the prestigious school next door… so is this going to be some kind of modern Romeo and Juliet? Really strong first episode.

Watching this anime makes me wonder if innocence in an anime character only works if the character has an appearance that makes you feel very tender towards them.
Well, while I wait to find that answer, I'll add that I feel comfortable watching this romance. I just hope it doesn't get to the point where the two main characters are so close that they seem to be married, but in reality they haven't even managed to express their feelings, as in a certain overrated anime that I'll mention just in case I read this message again in the future and don't remember which anime I was talking about: The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten.
I tried to post in Spanish — the mods were not amused.
“English only, thank you.” Okay. So much for being used.
“Just copy-paste and click,” they smile, like that will make it right,
But language gates aren’t freedom — they're censorship in white.

The first encounter between Rintarou and Kaoruko.
I was planning to read the manga, but when they confirmed the anime, I decided to wait.
I really liked the first episode.
I liked Rintarou and Kaoruko.
And Kaoruko is very cute.
They both go to schools that are next to each other, so let's see what happens now.
The opening and ending are very good.

Drama = a sad, lonely boy who naturally and awkwardly forces a creepy face that scares people (wow)
Romance = a girl who’s not afraid of him (wow x2)

Story: doesn’t exist, and the plot is basically the same as any other shoujo.
Masterpieces only come from authors who don’t target a specific audience just to get famous faster.
That’s why only an AI could possibly create a genuinely authentic romance, since it wouldn’t have a set gender, meaning it wouldn’t make a mascot of the opposite sex and use superficial traits to get audience sympathy.

Well, at least the static animation is all it has to offer, since the budget for something like this is obviously WAY lower than a typical shounen with characters doing acrobatics like they’re in a circus while creating random, meaningless fights.
“Wow, what beautiful angles of a girl staring at the camera with sparkling eyes.”

Apparently, evolution is not a well-received concept in this market, where they can only remake the same product with a different name and produce it in exactly the same way.

It was alright I guess? Certainly expected more since this got hyped quite a lot. There were a few things I did not like, but overall it was not bad. Romance so far feels quite forced and a bit too fast.

So I’ve come to this 6 weeks late because of all the hype. Now all the hype convinced me that this was a different, more emotionally mature romance anime. Well the fact that Kaoruko gets harassed by guys on the street disproves that immediately. No self respecting mature anime would have a scene like that. And I have a theory that will completely turn me against this show; if Kaoruko turns out to have a love interest forced upon her by her parents, I will absolutely turn against this show because I hate those plot twists in romance anime’s. But I’m willing to give this show a go despite what I’ve seen not matching up with what I’ve seen.

Nice episode, I liked the dub. It has less emotion and it feels a bit forced sometimes but that's to be expected with any dub. However it's better than other dubs I've heard, none of the voices are unbearable and the guy with red hair killed it, he sounds so good.

After properly watching Episode One, and also watching My Dress Up Darling S2, I can tell MDUD is the studio's passion project, sadly at the expense of this anime and perhaps Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus, which I haven't started yet. The telling sign is the inconsistency of animation quality: Rintaro's CGI walking sequence at 0:40 of the OP, juxtaposed with the scenes depicted just eight seconds later, made me cry inside at the what-could-have-beens.

This team can draw excellent animation if enough resources are given. See Akebi's Sailor Uniform. Here, they have to be selective on where to spend their time and money, For example, car animations are... ass, like they used Blender to move them from point A to point B and call it a day. On the other end of the spectrum, the sakuga moments like what the other users shared before are absolutely brilliant, like I can count the number of shows that have better shots than those with only one hand. Kaoruko's reactions and faces are some of the most expressive I've seen yet.

Other stuff I noticed:
- Episode structure, eyecatch, and title card is reminiscent of Your Lie in April. I was half-expecting wacci's Kirameki to play in the ED.

- Just like MDUD S2 is Bocchi-fied, the gags include artstyle changes to a lesser extent. I hope it's not overdone here. KaoruHana's story feels like it should be taken seriously.
- Kaoruko's face looks like a grown-up version of Akebi Kao's in some ways

As for the story itself, I need more time to digest it. I just finished The Dangers in My Heart and am feeling kinda empty right now.

By Cloverworks standards, the quality could be better. And yet at that state, it's much, much better than other shows out there. That says a lot about what the studio's capable of. The BD release may contain quite a bit of cleanup work. This show more than deserves to be a moving artbook!

Extremely predictable start.

Cute girl likes sweets, scary-looking guy is actually nice, girl doesn't think guy is scary, guy heroically rescues girl, yada yada yada... Random bad guys immediately jumping Kaoruko before she even walked a block was eye-roll inducing. And of course, they immediately spot each other at school the next day.

Kaoruko is very cute, that might be the only positive so far. But she's also almost impossibly sweet?

Kind of disappointed for now, but I'll wait and see.

@perseii this show is EXTREMELY vanilla, and almost every plot point is completely familiar/predictable/obvious.

It's been one of my favorite this season for its visuals and production (and because I'm a sucker for Romeo and Juliet-type stuff), but this show will disappoint you further if you keep looking for surprises.

@eksratu Appreciate the heads-up.

I wouldn't say I'm asking for "surprises." Just something for me to go, "huh, that's neat" about. If not in the story itself, then in the way it's told, or in the characters.

Still, I'm a little more into it after Episode 2. And it sure is pretty.
