There was never any chance SL wouldn't win considering the number of likes its episodes get on CR. Would've loved Frieren to get best series but SL is acceptable. It will be same story next year with SL2 vs Frieren 2,same outcome guaranteed π

| Looking stuff up about the Crunchyroll Anime Awards AOTY noms on MAL sent me in a bit of a spiral but tl;dr Crunchyroll Anime Awards has been mainstream slop for years I'd argue 2022 was when it got really bad though The only sub-500k show they've nominated since then was Delicious in Dungeon where they were willing to nominate shows with sub-250k members like Joker Game (216K, SEVENTEENTH in popularity in its season), Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju S2 (197K, 14th in its season), and Appare-Ranman (138K, also seventeenth in its season and the least popular AOTY nom ever). Bocchi the Rock is also the only nom since 2022 not to be in the top 5 in popularity for its season (and Lycoris Recoil is the only other one not to be first or second) I agree that the Crunchyroll Anime Awards are basically pointless now but not because Frieren lost. Frieren is part of the establishment and Frieren fans are just as mainstream as Solo Leveling fans. Hell, Frieren is ABOVE Solo Leveling (and every other 2024 AOTY nom) in members. |
