Another case based off a rumor that leds to Jinta to confront the demon or whatever is responsible. It's a recurring element over and over except a new arc now. That deformed face did look hideous though and Jinta seems like the perfect guy to take jobs like this.

Another great episode. Nice way to transition into a new phase of the story after the side story last week. The hunter becomes the hunted! For the first time, we got a big “bad” who’s not actually bad and just out to get Jinya because he’s a demon. Very ironic situation, really looking forward to seeing how Jinya likely wins Akitsu over and makes him an ally.

Opening scene with the former prostitute demon was so sad man. Sucks that even in death she couldn’t be free and was forced to wander, begging men for money. Jinya killing her was a mercy kill tbh. Harlot the Harlot is soo pretty, but I wonder what her plans are.

So nice to see Natsu and Ofuu hanging out, going to the festival and just having normal girl talk. More of that please! Natsu trying to fight back her feelings for Jinya is cute. But she’s doing an awful job hiding em from ofuu lol! Akitsu’s Kanazashi was honestly the most obvious bait ever so I’m a little surprised Ofuu didn’t pick up on it and warn Natsu not to take it.. guess it shows how comfortable a life she’s been living with her dad.

The fact it turned Natsu into a brocon is pretty funny considering her usual demeanor, but you also feel for Jinya because deep down you know he doesn’t think he deserves to be a big brother again. He’s still beating himself up for what happened in the village and has PTSD, so those “oniichan” calls from Natsu are like knives piercing em.

The old sake maker seems to be up to something as well. The way he had Jinya kill a seemingly innocent child demon and then smiled after is.. odd to say the least. He and Harlot could be pulling strings behind the scene to get Jinya and Akitsu fighting? Or maybe just the old man? Either way I’m sure there’ll be a cool twist as we’ve come to expect from this series!

Finally meeting the other demon hunter from the op,wonder if he knows of Jinyas whole deal and intentionally planted that hairpin to mimic Suzune.

Pretty grim scene with Jinyas immediately executing the demon child, guess a job is a job no matter if theyre good or not. That Harlot also has to be more than she seems to be.

So he didn't want to kill the demon, he only asked for his name, then he killed it.. I thought he usually talk it out first?

This new demon hunter is weird indeed, why he made Natsu buy the hairpin then it turned her into his sister? so many questions

@Builder45 In the books, she is referred to as "Streetwalker" (夜鷹, which directly translates to "nighthawk", is a synonym of "streetwalker", both are ways to refer to lower-class prostitutes), it feels really strange seeing the anime address her simply as "Harlot".

@Kai200X The sake shop owner hired him to slay the demon, so he had no choice. It will be revealed later who that boy was

The turns have been tabled with Jinya being the demon that’s hunted this time around, this Akitsu fella doesn’t seem like a villain tho, he seems pretty chill minus the hellhound summoning lol. It’ll be interesting to see how Jinya gets out of this situation, and also how he deals with Natsu’s new personality, it’s both cute and unsettling because of how it relates to Jinya’s actual sister, Suzune.

And Yotaka is an interesting addition, she’s certainly sus but also pretty, I’m wondering how she relates to the current situation with Akitsu, same with the sake guy who had Jinya kill a little boy demon, idk if it smells like demons are afoot but it definitely smells like bullshit lol. Also, even if it resulted in Natsu being messed with, I really enjoyed her and Ofuu just hanging out, they’re a cute duo.

@thewiru In this episode, it is 1854 and it is precisely the summer period. A few episodes ago, in 1853, Commodore Matthew Perry's "black ships" first arrived (there was a mention of that somewhere). From March 31, 1854 (after the signing of the Treaty of Kanagawa), Japan begins to open up to the world. This is the transition period between Edo and Meiji.

@thewiru From the Brief History of Syphilis - PMC:

"The pre-columbian hypothesis. The advocates of this hypothesis claim that not only syphilis was widely spread in both Old and New World, but also the other treponemal diseases. In Europe, most of these conditions were mistaken for leprosy [3]. According to this hypothesis, pinta occurred in Afro-Asian zone by the year 15,000 BC, having an animal reservoir. Yaws appeared as a consequence of the mutations in pinta around 10,000 BC and spread allover the world, except for the American continent which was isolated. The endemic syphilis emerged from jaws by the selection of several treponemas, as a consequence of climate changes (the appearance of the arid climate) around 7,000 BC. Around 3,000 BC the sexually transmitted syphilis emerged from endemic syphilis in South-Western Asia, due to lower temperatures of the post-glacial era and spread to Europe and the rest of the world. Initially it manifested as a mild disease, eventually aggravated and grew in virulence, suffering from several mutations, at the end of the 15th century [2,3]."

You use to ask interesting questions. Thank you.

@thewiru you're forgetting the Dutch, Portuguese, English... https://travelpander.com/how-visited-japan-first/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Westerners_who_visited_Japan_before_1868

1543 two Portuguese navigators António da Mota and Francisco Zeimoto (possibly a third named António Peixoto), land on the island of Tanegashima in 1543. Credited for introducing the matchlock arquebus, cannons and gunpower. from then there were lots more. anywhere sailors go, syphilis is sure to follow.

how do you think gunpowder firearms were used in Japan's Warring States Era 1460's till the 1560's??? did the Chinese sell them? noooo. the Europeans introduced firearms to Japan. the Chinese were using 'gunpowder rocket arrows' as early as 904AD... somewhere after 1100 or perhaps as late as 1200's the Chinese had perfected casting bell techniques (temple bells) to produce a kind of siege mortar to lob rounded STONES into castles and walls. as well as a proto-smoothbore musket which had a touch hole with NO arm on the firearm. you literally carried around a long length of wick with an ember on the tip and you TOUCHED it to the ignition hole in the back of the barrel to set the gun off. since you needed 3 hands? the gunner had a long stick pointed at one end and Y forked at the other. ya rammed the pointy end into the ground, propped the gun in the Y and that left your off-hand to hold the gun and then your dominant hand used the wick.

basically? Perry's Black Ships were LAST. 'Merica was late to the party in Japan. ;)

The red-light district of courtesans-turned-demons where Jinya only cares about exorcising demons from clients, such as Harlot the harlot, he comes just as he goes. And just as they go, the ladies of Natsu and Ofuu traverse around the daylight of the festival without significant others, though one Somegoto Akitsu begs to differ being one of Ofuu's regular patrons having a snarky conversation with Natsu on her romantic love, and even bagging for her sparrow accessories, a netsuke and an actual Somegoro kanzashi a.k.a hairpin.

Jinya's demon extermination is the norm around town, though Harlot soon fills the ronin with someone similar proclaiming to do what he does. But overnight, Natsu turned into quite the brocon with Jinya, all because of the Somegoro kanzashi that even has the soba store patrons like Zenji all stunned. Still, if they want to solve this case, they definitely need to locate Akitsu down, presumably parading like a demon, which apart from raising a bad memory with Suzune, Harlot's intel proved right that Akitsu may look like the human he is, but a demon somehow (by his 3rd generation successor name).

Interesting to see who Somegoro Akitsu the Third really is.

It's just the start and I already feel bad for the poor woman who was used and discarded, only to turn into a demon and slain in the end. The other prostitute, Harlot, I feel bad for her as well after her talk with Jinta.

During the festival, when Ofuu and Natsu were enjoying themselves, I noticed how they were dropping hints related to demons, but what we got instead was a demon hunter on our hands. Still, I wonder what Natsu was going to ask Ofuu when they got interrupted by Somegoro. Was she going to ask if she had feelings for Jinta as well? And why did Somegoro give that hairpin to Natsu? Was it intentional, and for what purpose?

It's clear that Natsu has feelings for Jinta, but she doesn't want to express them to him. Her personality has also taken a shift, as if she's talking like someone else. I would still support her love even if it's stepcest and cousincest in reality lol.

Natsu's over-affection toward Jinta was really cute, but it does raise a question as to why she was calling him brother, or if she has known the truth all along. And how Jinta was acting like a brother after all this time shows that he might forget Suzune if she apologizes at the right time.

Why was that old man acting shady? If he was trying to kill Jinta, then why, and for what reason? Well, this Somegoro Akitsu is the third, so it could be that the one mentioned as dead is a different person. Guess Jinta has to fight him to survive.

I'm so confused, so what we've been watching are flashbacks? And when Jinya asked about the shrine at the end of episode 2 or 3, that was actually skipping the 170 years? I can't articulate this well lol but does anyone feel me?
