I feel like Kumo desu nani ka's ending was not worth it, it was really fun to watch kumo fighting monsters and all that but at the end I felt like the "main" history wasn't that good compared to Kumo's adventures
@Mimoriko

Kumo peaked at one minute into the first episode when Aoi Yuuki went "oh JESUS"

I don't think any of them wasted my time because I'm determined to watch all the Anime there is, so I enjoyed it. Watched Naruto in 2016 and Dragonball for the first time in 2024.

Shaman King 2021 was also a Masterpiece.

Aho Girl still makes me want to break something. Why did I watch the whole thing? Why did I think it would get better? It's not even fun to make fun of, it's just painful.
@Daviljoe193 I instantly thought of this, but at least the episodes are only 10 minutes long so maybe not the biggest waste of time.

Besides Aho, Galko-chan was painfully boring and kinda gross sometimes too so since the episodes are longer i'll say galko was the biggest waste for me.

@LongQuiet I watched season 2 part 1, basically nothing happened there for like 12 episodes, and then I finally gave up on the series when part 2 stared with more flashbacks...

Feel free to spoil with the spoiler tag, I will never go near that show again...

Re:Zero and the second place is not even close.
Unfortunately the show starts out rather interesting at the beginning, at which point I made the mistake of watching further, but the show just repeats the same formulaic time loop over and over, and I have never seen such bad character writing, with insane amount of flashbacks for all the irrelevant side characters in season 2...
The worst is, I even watch the movies, and those also add literally nothing to the plot!
Let's just say that I became extremely liberal with my drops after this point.

@Whiteingale There was like one likable character and that was Echidna. Apparently she's evil and stuff, but considering I hate everyone else, that's a plus.

I guess Dragon Ball Z? And Kai by extension. I watched a fair bit (as in, 100-something episodes) of it but I thought it was mediocre. I didn't grow up with it so I don't have the same nostalgia blindless other people might, I'm amazed at how high that show's scored on this website. The original Dragon Ball was pretty good though.

I wouldn't deem any that I actually completed - even ones I rated as low as a 2/10 (Terra Formars, Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne, She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man, and Ubel Blatt - I have given no lower rating), to be a total waste of time, otherwise I would have dropped them before completing them. I was at least interested enough to see how they realized their premise until the end, even if I recognized it as severely bungled at some point or even from near the very beginning.

I would probably say, regardless of numerical rating I gave out, it would probably be the longest series I liked the least out of everything I've seen, so something like Neon Genesis Evangelion. Still not enough of a waste of time in order to compel me to drop, but mostly a frustrating and annoying experience due to characters and writing choices made.

Apart from that, if including dropped series, then probably one I watched even more episodes of than Neon Genesis Evangelion has, before dropping - I think there are only two it applies to, which are Monster and Digimon Ghost Game.

@LongQuiet Season 2 helped me come to the conclusion that I hate everyone.
And like the whale fight was okay I guess.

I suppose the issue really was that I committed too hard to shows I started watching, and tolerated too much nonsense before finally dropping them indiscriminately.
It was a learning experience, that directly contributed to me dropping 191 as of now.
Now I might have the opposite issue...

@JoeChip lol, okay, I know we haven't gotten off on the right foot. Pretty terrible, I know.

But I think the point is subjectiveness and respect. People are different.

There is a lot of anime people tell me that don't get their appeal, but I let them like what they like.

No one here has said their fans are morons and such. That would be crossing the line.

Always remember to look at the context along with the objectiveness.

Same. "Patlabor" was not as straightforward as I was expecting it'd be. I thought it'd be more grounded (not that that's a bad thing that it wasn't, there's series I also thought the same that wasn't but I still enjoyed). There were some things I liked about the first two movies, but ultimately I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected I would (it doesn't help that I watched it after finishing "Legend of the Galactic Heroes"). Although I wouldn't say it was a waste of time for the reason that it would've continued hanging over me that I want to check it out and now I can cross it off my list, knowing how I feel about it.

Gundam Mercury Witch

Not the worse thing I have ever seen, but because I really tried to get into it and like it I watched until episode 9, so I wasted a lot of time. Other anime that I have dropped I just give one episode or 2, so it is not that much of deal.
@KenaiPhoenix To be honest, it irritated me when I found out that the first season was only the first half of the series (I did not know about that at all until I was told by someone else towards the end of that season). Not that I would've kept on watching, but that made me like it even less. It makes me want to check out more Gundam a bit out of spite, because there's definitely other Gundam shows that I will like more than it.

Naruto Shippuden or Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V. Both examples of sunk cost fallacy by being absurdly long with trite writing that made the payoffs not worth it.

Nana is the longest anime (being 47 episodes) I've given the minimum rating of 1 to, so have to default to it as my answer. Easily one of the most narratively superficial and stagnant anime in terms of meaningful character development I've ever watched, topped off with sporadic insertions of bizarre "comedic" moments into the middle of scenes intended to be suspenseful and/or dramatic. Convinced I would've been more entertained watching a fly groom itself for the duration of time I watched it instead.
@Archean-Return I expected to like "Nana" but yeah, after a certain point, I wanted to get it over with. I feel like maybe it would've been better if I'd read it instead of watched it because it wouldn't have dragged out as long and sometimes seeing characters being brought to life doesn't really do them any favors (I'd been fine with the other Ai Yazawa series I've experienced that way). The drama began to feel really trite and I found myself less sympathetic and more irritated than anything. The series is so highly praised that I expected more from it.

Great Teacher Onizuka.

I kept going and never lost hope till like the final 2 episodes because I thought there must be something redeeming about the show to make it so praised/highly-rated. I was shocked to find there was absolutely nothing.
@iunne I dropped it after the first episode lol The series didn't click with me and I don't think that I'm missing out on anything by not watching/reading it. The series title says the teacher is great, but I didn't feel that way at all.

@kuroneko99 I wasn't that into this series, but it's unfortunate that it wasn't able to completely adapt the entire story that the creator had in mind - especially since I could tell by the end that it had been really building up to something. Since we only got half of a whole, it makes me hold off on any personal judgements.

Only Yesterday. So much of the Studio Ghibli library is amazing, in fact I'd say all of them. Except one. Only Yesterday, though quaint and easy going.... It's very.... bland, in comparison. It's what you get when you take out the magic and mystery of a Studio Ghibli film and get its milquetoast bland remains. I really appreciate the effort and heart that went into it, but if I went my life without watching it again, it wouldn't bother me.

In all of my life, for me, it honestly takes a lot for an anime to be considered a waste of time. When it's this movie, that's saying something. You could give me the most outrageous and bawdy OAV ever or a story with a lot of flash but a lot of plotholes and I'd still have a blast. Only Yesterday, again, while it isn't awful, this is what I think of when all of the tourists and naysayers go "there's too many boobies! it's too lewd! there's too much violence! it's too dark and colors should only be used for happy stuff! tone it down so hollywood can take me seriously!" You get stuff like this, extremely goes nowhere and on the head boring attempts of "let's go back to nature and live like hippies" and tries to appease everybody. It makes me want to puke the remains of dry toast, unflavored oatmeal, and buttermilk thinking about it.

Edit: Sorry, the english title is Only Yesterday.
@HokutoMumyoZan I get that "Only Yesterday" is not for everyone and it's not in my top favorite Ghibli films, but that movie has a lot more merit than you're giving it credit for. It doesn't have a dramatic destination (or even a dramatic journey), but it's not aimless either and I highly doubt Isao Takahata was pandering to anyone or anything when he made the movie. It sounds like you're saying that "Only Yesterday" is generic and plays it too safe, but I'd disagree. An older audience who can reflect back on their childhood and relate to feeling echoes of the past in their present would likely get the most of watching it, which will narrow the number of people who enjoy this movie, but that was likely intentional. It does not have a broad appeal, but it took that risk and that's part of its charm.

EDIT: Also note-worthy that apparently Disney didn't release this film because it included discussions of menstruating. Not sure if it's true or not, but I wouldn't put it pass Disney to be like that.

@bucciest Not to be mean, but this movie was very.... "woman's movie". Not a bad thing. Some of my favorite movies that are female orientated are Mermaids, Steel Magnolias, Fried Green Tomatoes, and The Boyfriend School, and a Japanese movie that I really enjoyed that was about youth romance, nostalgia and childhood experiences was Crying Love At The Center of The World. The oncoming of menstruation isn't even a problem to me, nor half of the problems I have with Only Yesterday, though.
