Ye, Kenshin definitely needed help to protect Kyoto. It's never too late to ask for help.

Even with the invasion on the way already, this one still felt more or less like a buildup. Others are on the move too and night time seems like a good timeframe to attack/defend. Seems we're finally about to get to the juicy stufff. Some of those Ten Blades are thirsty for blood.

Saito and Kenshin reunited finally 🙏🏾

Commodore Perry mentioned!! Love when my anime references historical events. The audacity of the Americans to think they could just show up and force a country to be open to the world was really insane(it worked but still 😂) understandable that the people of Tokyo would still be afraid of something like that happening again. Someone showing up and completely disrupting the status quo. Brilliant psychological warfare from Shishio really.

Not really sure what’s going on with the chief Saito left in charge of the great fire defense, but I like the moment he had with Cho and the little boy who came to fight. Seems like he really regrets his behavior during the bakumatsu era and wants to make amends for it. Hopefully he gets his chance

Yumi and Shishio have the most uncomfortable relationship lol. Me and the bad bitch I pulled by being a murderous psychopath basically. Obviously this came out before Kimetsu but just hearing the name Rengoku again.. 37 minutes until the great Tokyo fire and the real action getting started. Hype.

No way this season finishes up the arc so hopefully we don’t have to wait long for another season!

The horse bit the rooster.

The chief Saitō left in charge is dumb, I thought he was gonna be a double agent for the Juppongatana when he recognised Fujita as Saitō but Saitō didn't know him

Sanosuke rides on top of the carriage but Saitō has to prod him every once in a while stop him blabbering about their plans to reach Ōsaka.

It's not about the firepower, the presence of a vessel attacking Tokyo like the black ships did is enough to stir chaos.

I like the detail that Misao, having heard how the strongest people she knew personally were defeated, thinks they need a gatling gun to defeat Shishio.

It takes a Hitokiri to know a Hitokiri; Kenshin correctly guesses Shishio would disguise his battleship as a civilian ship.

Nooo....Ochika and Omasu got caught by Iwanbo, hope they can escape to tell everyone about Fuji.

A decoy op that only Shishio knows is defo something that he would try. Nice to see Misao step up once Kenshin's letter gets to them. Hmm so the kid with the sword is here to take his dads place on the line. How brave of him. The scale of their preps for the assault though. One hell of a setting ep for things to come.

Interesting episode, almost all original.

Police chief was also from Osaka or Kansai probably like Cho due to dialect? Nice parallel there. At the end he recover his valour, thanks to the kid. It reminds of Batman Nolan 3 movie.

And what happen to ninja girls with Iwambo? Thats also new.

I love that they are doing the Rengoku arc more big and complete, in original manga and anime always felt too short.

I hope to watch original cool battles and encounters.

I suposse that 19 and 20 will be Rengoku Arc, 21 and 22 MOF and 23 final ep of the season.

Only 5 episodes to go and the preparations have been completed.
Will the remaining 5 episodes be enough to completely adapt the arc? Genuinely asking, because somehow it feels like it´s not enough.

Noo not with the sexy oniwabanshu getting caught by those tubby juppongatana!

Well never expected to have the police chief to receive his character development. I thought he's just an npc, but Saitou surely had his way to manning up police bro.

All in all, finally Kyoto disturbance preparation completed. Rengoku also ready to set sail to the depth of the hell. So let's see how they gonna clash considering all the separation...

This right here is why I watch seasonal anime weekly, I really don’t mind the wait for the next episodes because the hype is just so high man, I love it and I don’t think I’ll ever leave it completely. And it’s wild that I said this on another buildup episode, but that just goes to show how good Rurouni Kenshin is, I can just feel with each little thing that’s happening we’re getting closer to the lid getting popped off this arc.

The biggest part was the reveal of Shishio’s battleship, the Rengoku, being disguised as a civilian ship, really cool stuff along with the ties to history with Commodore Perry, I’m not the most knowledgeable on Japanese history so I just learned something there. I also love that Shishio basically re-rizzed Yumi by showing her his badass weapon lol, she’s a ride or die if I’ve ever seen one, unless of course it’s all an act but I doubt that for now. Also rip those Oniwaban ladies, not sure what that large fella did to them but it couldn’t have been good. And lol at Sanosuke being stabbed in the ass, Saito really doesn’t like him but it makes for funny bits. And there was Kaoru’s words about the Gatling gun, I think the sentiment was nice but unfortunately the Oniwaban group did not win against it, unless you consider throwing bodies at it until it’s out of ammo winning lol, nice callback tho.

And lastly I really liked the part with the police chief, he seemed kinda wimpy at first and I can’t blame the man, especially after being called scum by Cho of all people lol, but the scene afterward with the kid volunteering to fight was really heartwarming, I’m glad the chief found his mojo before this great fire goes down, he’s a minor character but I loved this development for him.

The girls stumbled across how they really mean to set Kyoto on fire. It surprised me in the Manga, too. I read it in early 2020, right as Covid was taking hold, before the Lockdown. ( Should have done THAT earlier, but oh well.) The OG TV series in the Fall that year. I won't say how, if you guys weren't paying close attention or haven't watched the OG. LOL

@-Hyunckel- Fujita/Saito says he knew the Satsuma samurai but doesn't recognise the chief, which implies he's from Kyushu. I can't pick up the accents yet, but I do know Kyoto and west is the broad group of western Japanese accent as opposed to the eastern one characteristic of Tokyo. (Then apparently there's Kagoshima in it's own special place.)

For some reason I liked this episode better than the previous ones. Maybe it's just my impression, but I felt that it had better animation, although it's not like the episode had too much action to warrant it. Anyway, I doubt they're going to adapt the remaining chapters of the arc in five episodes. The pacing is going very well so far and there's too much left to be covered in just five more episodes.

@Dan_ALves I doubted this from the very first announcement when I saw this is only 23 episodes anime. I mean what the hell they are planning to do... OG was 32 episodes after starting from the journey. And after seeing the 2nd cour trailer where they gave their full focus on great fire and didn't show anything about the fight then I was 97% certainly sure that they are not going to adapt any individual fight of Juppongatana. But I was not sure how they are going to manage 25 chapters in 11 episodes. But yeah it is happening. But I am happy that they give focus on the great kyoto fire intensely because in the manga or OG, it was happened like a normal event.

@Miraz_Un_Nabi I don´t know how long the Kyoto arc is, so I had no idea if 23 episodes was enough or not. Is 25 chapters what will be left after this season ends?

@Dan_ALves I think they can do the rest in 12 or 14 anime episodes, but I also hope to see the first middle of next arc, Jinchuu, the next year too.

Another posibility would be second middle of season original or readapt any of the original 96 anime arcs, but I dont see it probably.

@-Hyunckel- People also underestimate how long the jinchuu arc is, same as Dan here thinking we're getting ALL the juppongatana fight this season, when it took 35 episodes of the original anime without fillers to complete.

We're probably gonna get some Jinchuu past arc after the fight with Shishio ends for the 3rd season, ending the 3rd season right before the FIRST JINCHUU.
Jinchu arc itself is 10 volumes 100+ chapters.
Kyoto arc is 11 volumes.

then maybe the 4th season will conclude with the whole jinchuu's and the rescue on the island.

@kaimax @-Hyunckel- Thank you for both answers. So if S3 is announced (it should be), it will adapt the rest of the Kyoto arc and possibly the beginning of the Jinchuu arc? If they keep doing two-cours seasons, how many seasons to adapt everything without fillers will it take, in your opinion?

@Dan_ALves IMO 1 more season of 24 eps and another 1 of 12 eps. They can fill the last one with 24 too if they want with novels and original material.

After that the current continuation saga Hokkaido that still we dont know how many manga volumes will have but looks like that many.

Another buildup episode. Most of it being original content but gotta say it was still fairly solid. Whole sequence with the Police Chief doubting himself and being reassured by the kid's sense of duty was particularly stellar.

For a moment I thought mister chief of police would really change sides, I mean he well and truly made his mind as well, but nah, the self realisation and guilt knocking him down somehow stopped him. If he actually did change sides, then it'd have become even more easy for Shishio's bunch.

That was a nice bit, but yeah, finally.. FINALLY, the great Kyoto fire plan is underway, or it would be in some minutes xD

Saito wanting Chief Arato to prep some of his men at Osaka, it's the best premeditated course of action before Shishio will strike at midnight, with Kenshin's letter to the Oniwaban Group to inform them of the plan that's going to herald deaths in hours to come. Kenshin, knowing the past during the Bakumatsu Era that has situations like these, time and place is always critical for the operation at hand.

The Ten Swords are also ready to strike where Shishio commands them to be, and Cho will not relent just so for Arato to gain more information out of him. Even a 11-year-old kid who wants to join in the effort, Arato knows that it's too dangerous for him to be involved in matters of the past, and the adults will take over from here on out. And as expected, Yumi accompanying Shishio on the way to Tokyo on their ship Rengoku, only someone like Kenshin could understand how far Shishio would go just to exact revenge on the Meiji government.

Time for an all-out inevitable fight...
