Well this episode is pretty much Kuno's introduction episode. I still stand with my opinion that even though he's decent here, I still thought he's a poor man's Shutarou Mendo lol. All of Akane's school male students are freak that only see her as a trophy to win her, no wonder she hates men. I feel like Kuno's introduction is a little different than I remember from the old anime, perhaps this one is manga accurate so that's why. Looks like the next episode would be either about Dr Tofu or Kodachi.

It's getting more funnier for sure.

Their duo will be legendary!
I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim

Having to fight an entire school of men every day just to go to class would also give me a hatred of them. Akane's pretty valid.

Kuno's persistence is remarkable, but it's that same persistence that is driving our two leads up a wall. May he take a chill-pill! (I did like his interaction with Nabiki though. I ship it.)

He meant that Kuno is Ranma 1/2's Mendo. Mendo is one of the main side characters of Urusei Yatsura, Takahashi's work before Ranma 1/2. A lot of the characters in Ranma 1/2 are based on the archetypes established in Urusei Yatsura. I suggest watching it. Especially the original 1981 Urusei Yatsura.

Really fun episode.
This will sound gay as fuck but it's the truth, what happened in the end is all Ranma's fault for being so sexy when turned into a girl lol (can't believe I said that).
Sorry if my english is bad (っ˘▽˘)っ~~~
Btw, cry about it.

Tatewaki Kuno, the self-proclaimed "Blue Thunder of Furinkan High School," is unforgettable! His over-the-top, pompous personality and relentless pursuit of Akane Tendo and the "Pigtailed Girl" bring so much humor to Ranma ½. His dramatic declarations and confident yet delusional demeanor make him one of the most entertaining characters.

Tatewaki Kuno's skills are undeniable; he is a formidable martial artist and kendoka. However, his grandiose emotions and eccentric personality often overshadow his true abilities. His arrogance and delusional self-image lead to hilarious misunderstandings and constant distractions.

Moreover, his aristocratic background and aloof nature make it hard for him to connect with the everyday experiences of his peers, adding to the comedic contrast.

Sugita might not be the first person to play Kuno, and it's truly unfortunate Kuno's Voice Actor passed and can't reprise the role, especially for me since Ranma was the first anime I ever consumed subbed, but I'd be lying if I said Kuno wasn't the most Sugita role he's had since he first bagged Gintoki.

I have mixed feelings about the remake. I'm enjoying it but it doesn't feel the same as it did. Kuno in the original was more dramatic than the remake. I don't think I like this version of Kuno.

As someone who had never even heard of this manga prior to seeing pop up on my Netflix, im glad that people who’ve read the manga and have watched the original anime are enjoying it as much as I am. Once this seasons over, I’ll probably give it a read.

I honestly never cared for this particular part of the story, but this episode was done well. I'm super glad that they contained it in a single episode instead of splitting it across two like in the original. Looking forward to Ryoga next episode.

Apparently asking for clarification on something is "some bs" and worthy of accusing someone of not knowing how to speak a language. All this exchange did was make me less interested in checking out Urusei Yatsura, so nice job shooting yourself in the foot.
At least there's some people polite enough to explain, so thanks to @leonardobarba for that.
@hawk222 FWIW, they're the one at fault - you did and said absolutely nothing wrong. But please don't let that dickhead ruin Urusei Yatsura for you, as it's really good.

@0451 the character i look foward the most in this remake is shampoo. based on the pacing at what episode do you think she will show up for the first time?
@Elior21 I've seen the leaks so I already know when she's going to appear.

Thankfully, the Remake is following the order of the manga pretty closely unlike the original series which created an unnecessary mess by debuting Shampoo earlier because they thought it'd make the series more popular as it was struggling to get views. All it did was create a continuity error that just confused people and the series got cancelled anyway. They later rebooted it as Ranma 1/2 Nettohen and they started by adapting the arc which they initially skipped.

If you have the English Blu-ray chances are you don't know about this as afaik Viz reordered the episodes to fit the manga order. Still, the animation change should've been noticeable.

@IkemenSenpai some parts in the orginal version of this episode were anime only and not from the manga so they probably cut those specific parts and stayed true to the manga

Ahh, I see. I just checked the manga, and it looks like you were right, the remake follows the manga more closely, whereas the original added a lot of its own scenes.
In that case, the remake is actually a better adaptation. My bad for thinking the remake wasn’t adapted perfectly.
@IkemenSenpai Does being closer to the manga necessarily mean it is better? For example would the Usagi Drop anime adaptation be better if it had the manga ending?

Some times changes made in anime adaptations are improvements and not necessarily always negative.

@CommanderZx2 It's a matter of perspective. I prefer an anime that follows the manga point by point so I can experience what the mangaka intended to convey.
For example, take Neon Genesis Evangelion—its ending was terrible, which is why they created an alternate version with a better conclusion. But even so, the majority still prefer the original anime, even though the MC was pathetic and the ending was bad.
So, it really comes down to preference. You might enjoy an anime with a better story, even if it's altered from the manga, but I personally prefer anime that sticks closely to the source material.

@IkemenSenpai okay, I believe the opposite. Anime is a very different medium to manga, they should change things up to compliment the medium. For example K-on, Nichijou and even Frieren there are significant changes to take advantage of the animated medium. Heck there's even some significant story changes in some of them.

Absolutely love it so far, they rly cooking with this one. If they do full adaptation with 100+ episodes it could become most successful and top rated MAPPA anime, they would definitely earn a lot, just hope they don't do unnecessary skips by making only important chatpera or some shit like Urusei Yatsura did, the potential is big with this one. Can't wait to see romance develop, I can see Akane coming into my top 10 later, love tsunderes.

I'm surprised rating is so low so far, only 7.90. Should be at least 8.4 or something, but then again it's only 2 episodes, hopefully it improves and people don't drop it for some reason, but I don't see why they would.

It didn't take long for the first misunderstanding regarding relationships to appear. Kuno was so adamant to take on Ranma's boy form that in the process he fell in love with the girl one. I wonder how will that affect Akane who has to deal with idiots every day she goes to school. Certainly a good fighting start to the school scenario.

@Elior21 There will be. You can see a lot of characters in the key visual who won't appear in the first cour. So it's a given that there will be at least another cour. Tho it's unknown if it'll air right after the first cour ends like Urusei Yatsura in Winter 2025 or if it'll be a split season.

once again there's nothing much i can add considering how well i remember the original series, but, still, i enjoyed the transition (pun intended) from girl to boy behind Genma's body in the gym warehouse, i still doubt about no girl wanting to date Kuno, and well, his scene directly declaring his love to the "pigtailed girl" will never get old.

Feels great to have fresh Ranma content in 2024. And what content! The animation, the humor, the Rankane dynamic - the remake has gotten all of it right so far.

For all the taunts, bickering, and bad blood over that rocky first impression, Ranma is already showing interest in Akane's life and she looks after him. Those two care for each other almost since the beginning. But the real star of the episode is Kuno. What an idiot. Love him to bits.

So Kuno fell head over heels for the the female Ranma which I don't blame hime because female Ranma is hot. I wonder what his reaction would be when he finds out that both male and female versions of Ranma are the same person.

Welp, Ranma and Akane just can't get along, let alone the father and son who always gets into reckless fights every now and then. And then there's the chiropractor of Dr. Tofu which clearly Akane is crushing for, let alone her school of Furinkan High School which every man challenges her daily like the norm. Of course, there's also Tatewaki Kuno, the classic Urusei Yatsura's Shutaro Mendo character leading the Kendo club, which he is clearly...not the challenge for Ranma, aside from the deteriorating bad weather.

Akane having to face the onslaught of men, much less having their engagement rumour be spread around the school like wildfire...and most importantly, not letting his sex change be found out. And at the cusp of Kuno figuring out that Ranma is more than he assumes, Akane saved his ass, but they're not out of the woods with Kuno surely remembering whom the girl is now to issue a written letter of challenge to him through Akane.

Instead of a fight, Ranma (as the girl) receiving Kuno's confession, what's he got to do about this now?

You do know there are people other than you and me, right? I prefer old version because it tries to elevate the source material while this removes the elevation parts, while being faithful but not entirely as it still removes parts and censors funny parts for people who are too sensitive to even be watching anything in first place. I just don’t see anything here special tbh.

All I was telling you is what I see as a whole picture, I maybe wrong in the end but right now at this moment? I am right with my assumptions so far
