Is this a new tag on MAL? I’ve never noticed it before. What’s it mean?

I prefer calling it romantic subtext. Even I had to look it up.

Romantic Subtext was better. I think they are trying to be more explicit with theses new tags.

I don't think Love Status Quo is really appropriate. Yes, in Kaguya-sama the romance is very little. (s1 and s2 at least) But it's not like there is no progress at all. There is definitely development in their relationship. Romantic Subtext was better I guess.

it doesnt mean that there is no progress, it means that there wont be more meaningful romance

people usually don't like cliche stuff so this is one of the solution i guess. i can't get into kaguya, prefer vanilla romance. maybe i'm biased cause i actually look up that definition, while romantic subtext is quite subtle to perform as a key word.

Romantic Subtext made much more sense.

Honestly a lot of anime that have that tag I don't even fully agree with, like Giji Harem for example is definitely not just Romantic Subtext, I'd just call that one full on Romance + Comedy.

You can read the definition of Love Status Quo here : https://myanimelist.net/anime/genre/74/

As Love Status Quo replaced Romantic Subtext, all database entries which were previously tagged Romantic Subtext now have the Love Status Quo theme. However, this means that series which were classified as Romantic Subtext may not meet the new definition of Love Status Quo. Nonetheless, there will be a review of all Love Status Quo entries to ensure that the series are appropriately tagged and are consistent with the current definition.

Isn't this tag a spoiler? Like we will already know the things will remain the same at the end.
