All azn gurls get 100s on their calculus test scores. Is it because they watch what they think are cartoons, only to be challenged by complex themes and emotions? Or are they smart already and therefore gravitate naturally towards anime?

What is azn?

OT: just like any other media, it depends on the contents.

Intelligence is rooted from genetics so anime does not change it either way. Asians in general are smarter than non asians. Highest iq on average is Asian men though this is not the case for height or looks.

@rohan121 could it not be said that its less genetic and more cultural? they have a culture that really promotes schooling and learning compared to other cultures.

Definitely not. Asian americans on average beat out white americans in academic scales. Iq is a global standard. Studies on twins also show similar results with different upbringings.

God, no!
Only watching anime (any one type of media really) will limit your intelectual growth.
The best way to make oneself smarter is to explore multiple topics for multiple perspectives (recognizing what those perspectives are) and being open to information that challenges one's preconceptions and biases (not at the point of just blindly believe anything you hear, of course).

Watching Detective Conan can indeed stimulate your brain! The series encourages anime fans to think critically and pay attention to details.. Also challenging viewers to piece together clues and solve the case before Conan.

The clues often hidden in plain sight, challenging viewers to notice small details that might be crucial.
Conan’s deductive reasoning inspire viewers to think logically and systematically when faced with problems..

Watching The Kindaichi Case Files can certainly help improve your deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills!
The Complex Mysteries in the series is intricately designed, requiring viewers to piece together various clues and red herrings
The protagonist, Hajime Kindaichi, uses logical deduction to solve crimes, which can inspire viewers to think systematically and analytically..
Watching Layton Mystery Detective Agency: Katri’s Puzzle Solving Files can indeed help improve your puzzle-solving skills!
The anime incorporates various puzzles and riddles that viewers can try to solve along with the characters.
Many puzzles require recognizing patterns and connections, which can sharpen your cognitive abilities.

While anime might not turn you into a detective overnight, it can definitely sharpen your mind and make you more observant..

It's an incredibly inefficient way to get "smarter" intellectually or emotionally. I won't say it's impossible but very few anime are going to challenge you with complex themes and develop you in a worthwhile way compared to just going out and experiencing life and reading a book. The majority of anime are entertainment first before they are anything else.

You could make the same poor case with tiktok even though that is a major source of brain rot, maybe between all the garbage you'll learn a life lesson or factoid from some science dude you scroll past but all the other filler in between kind a makes the idea of viewing it as a source of knowledge laughable.

If you go by the more conventional definition of "smarts", probably not. But let me share that experience:

I've always been the patient type, letting others space and indulging in what they want. Doing nothing is less effort, and I often react that way, which is why I often end up bottling my emotions. Holo from Spice & Wolf made me smarter in the emotional intelligence department. I got better at letting "things" out after a certain scene in the anime. It was a heart opener somehow, seeing Holo angry, savage, showing her teeth and claws, but still with a deep love and kindness towards Lawrence rooted behind it. I am forever grateful to this series for I'll never forget that scene, as a lesson to always remember that you should not let your feelings control you, and outburst honesty is sometimes the better move, especially with those you love and care.

By the way, I'm talking about the first anime made (2 seasons) not the more recent one, I haven't watched it.

Anime is a form of etnertainment it's purpose isn't to spread any knowledge of any science, for that you have scientific literature which is available in libraries, university libraries or in some digital versions [legal and non-legal]

lol @ all the people thinking that intelligence is entirely determined by genetics... let's see how smart a kid with "smart genes" would be if nobody ever taught it anything, including language. Contrary to this oddly widespread and silly belief, education does not only improve knowledge but also intelligence.

IQ is also a horrible standard of "intelligence", whatever that is supposed to mean. This applies to academics too. You can be really good at academics because you're really good at memorizing stuff but not have good problem-solving skills which is probably the better definition of intelligence. And your example of asian-americans doesn't really work since it's still culture based as their parents more often than not are migrants from Asia. Even by personal experience asian students that are not first-generation Americans are not smarter on average than other races.

There is really no proof that ethnicity and genetics plays a part on your intelligence. It's just easier to have more smart Asians when 3 out of 8 billion humans on this planet come from China and India alone, not counting Japan and Korea. Obviously you'd have more smart Asians, simply because there are so many Asians. And that's not to mention the insane academic culture of China, Japan, and Korea, which logically is the biggest factor.

Unless you've got a source or study on your claim that genetics plays a part in intelligence you're just spreading your head canon. I haven't even touched on how from the start of the industrial revolution to WW2 nearly all technological innovations have come out of the west (and not because genetically but because of how both the middle east and china's empires were in a state of decline and at the end of their years).
