@HyperlinkBlocked As far as I understand the "Super Mina" isn't an upgrade at all, that's just another robot. What Mina wanted was the "Mina Series Deluxe Option Set," and that was in the second half of the book which she kept for herself. The first half was the products; the second was the upgrades.
@Love_And_Forward Yes. I got that. "Super Mina" is just shorthand for the thing. Brother, I'm not going to write out the whole thing.

@leonardobarba They're literally sentient. This entire story has been about robots having their own feelings. From Mina cherishing everything about Takuma, to feeling pride when her specs come into play (Especially when compared favorably to other machines', as evidenced by her frequent Smug Tilts), to Super Mina being happy to be called a friend, and caring deeply about her master, to showing interest in anything and everything, to feeling guilt and shame when unable to perform a task, all the way to Senju feeling particularly protective of her partner, to the point that she disregards protocol to protect said partner, to outright being shocked into a hard reset when finding out her partner likes her.

And, spoiler, these are the emotionally stunted ones. The title is an explicit lie to play on your preconceived notions of what robots are capable of experiencing.

@HyperlinkBlocked (wide smile)

I love the series.

I feel like this episode would be a good contrast to anyone who watches Chobits and compares how we basically have changed attitudes over the past 20 years with respect to this topic.

Still an excellent series.

What do you mean by that? Not sure if you're implying it's gotten "better" or "worse" or what would even qualify here as your subjective better or worse. Or that it hasn't really changed at all, is the meaning.

Confusion aside, agree wholeheartedly with this though:

I apologize for the confusion, allow me to clarify my point better.

If I recall in Chobits, attraction and relationship towards the persocoms was tentatively accepted (though treated as a novelty at times), but it was always framed as something doomed to fail eventually as the hardware failed. In this series, it appears to be something anticipated, but also planned for with a standardized solution. Basically, I do not recall ever seeing the sort of support network in Chobits, which is implied to exist in this series.

When Iida began talking about backups and protecting the programming integrity of Mina; the moment she realized Mina was thought of as family, I immediately thought back to the plot points around characters who became distraught when their persocoms malfunctioned or had the memory wiped for whatever reason.

Overall, I'm just saying both shows really stand out as interesting contrasts in how we view this topic of android partners and AI technology; viewing the changes in how the technology is perceived, and how we approach technology solutions is quite interesting to me.

As I said before this series is excellent, if a little bit underrated.

Ah, I see. Your sentence was entirely correct. Just poor reading comprehension on my part in this instance. Couldn't infer all the detail (since I still have Chobits on my PTW list), but got the gist and everything was grammatically correct. This may sound bizarre, but I honestly get so used to reading typos and mistakenly-worded sentences over the internet so frequently that sometimes I prematurely assume or expect it to be the case in advance to "allow" for it when I really shouldn't. Got too ahead of myself here.

Anyway, I agree that it's fascinating and why I consider transhumanist Sci-Fi series like this really something special. It's my favorite series of the season and will probably end up at or near the top of everything I've watched this year for that same reason. It can be humorous, cute, relaxing, etc. on one level as entertainment but is also endlessly thought-provoking. Just love series like that. And I'm personally in the camp of wanting to see more advancement and exploration in this field as well as accompanying acceptance in tandem for those to whom it offers the outlet of an alternative lifestyle. Even if I wouldn't necessarily find myself in the exact same situation, it's still relatable and sympathetic.

Even though I don't consider a score in the numerical 6s range to be actually bad according to my own personal rating scale, given the way MAL rates everything else including many very rehashed power fantasies and the like, I agree that it is on the underrated side currently. But for whatever reason this seems to be a trend of lesser-known seasonal series this season. I don't know if it started last season or at any other earlier point, but it's definitely noticeable this season. Many series I'm watching, which aren't the big name popular ones, have ratings in the mid-6s.

If all the Mina could wirelessly transmit signals and also contact one another in a network. Does that mean that theoretically one could own an army of Mina with some Super Mina, and have them walk around a building to propagate a local wi-fi, whilst having access to a sort of local supercomputer connected via the cloud?
Damn when you think about that, Super Mina is like a high-end gaming PC with all the customization and personality you wanted it to have, whereas the individual limited Mina models are like a Bitcoin miner, capable of doing other tasks, but optimized to do one thing.

Whatever company owns these robots must be earning some massive revenue if they offer free memory backups and monthly maintenance for robots considered to be family members, that or they simply don't want some guy filing a lawsuit for deleting his beloved mechanical lover. Sanzu has almost accidentally committed an act of 'murder' on a fully sapient entity. Seeing her clutching her exposed brain as several tentacle probes came prodding her circuits was some eerie sight.

This is farewell for Mina, two whole weeks without her and Takuma is already in tears at the sight of her leaving through the doors. Bro is utterly cooked.

I like the other worker robot, and she crashed when the human worker said she love her ahaha, it's also cool that the maintenance is free when the robot is considered to be a member of the family... now I wonder how Mina will evolve
