I kinda giveup hope it'd ever get a 2nd season now.
So do you guys know any anime that's like Grimgar? (I think I rewatched the series like 3~4 times now, still loving it)

Here's some of my requirement:
1. Good looking characters (very important)
2. Fantasy world setting (isekai or pure fantasy both ok)
3. Detail world building and character portraits.
4. Mature writing
5. Decent animation (i dont want to watch cheap ass animation)

Please dont recommend me something like Slime/ SAO/ Overlord/ Shield Hero.
Also I already watched Frieren/ Rezero/Jobless Incarnation and most of the popular isekai/ fantasy stuffs so dont recommend me those too.
Thank you.

"Mature writing"

Really? I mean writing Grimgar to be over the top melodramatic doesn't makes it more mature. Yes, it's a breath of fresh air for an isekai, but is it actually better on its own?

So how about Hakumei to Mikochi, Kaguya-hime no Monogatari, Natsume Yuujinchou, Seirei no Moribito, Shika no Ou: Yuna to Yakusoku no Tabi and Vampire Hunter D + Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust?

Maybe give CHOYOYU! a try it has somewhat 'mature' writing for an isekai.

Personally, Grimgar was an average series beyond its colorful appearance and different character personalities

Like Grimgar? Honestly, none. There is no isekai where people die. In Goblin Slayer people die, but those aren't even side characters, just unknown background characters. Goblin Slayer isn't an isekai either.
Concerning characters that die, the one that comes closest is the first season of Attack on Titan.
Kingdom Come Deliverance II GOTY 2025

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is another worthy GOTY contender I tip my fedora to Sandfall Interactive, excellent debut gentlemen!

If digital buying isn't owning, then piracy isn't stealing

My curiosity is an act of love for truth I do love the truth, I love it so much that I don't want to lie. Lying is tiring & in the end, the only thing that stands the test of time is truth, lies decompose over time.

@Coaghim Oh right I watched both seasons of Golbin Slayers already too.
Not masterpiece or anything, but It's entertaining enough at least.

Try Juuni Kokuki (Twelve Kingdoms). I thought it was just okay myself, but others were demonstrably much more fond of it, hence the 8.00+ weighted score. The world-building is intricate enough, and it is tonally grounded, so it might be right up your alley.

I feel like I could say those points about a lot of fantasy series, but somehow it seems to me you're looking for something more specific.

I would say Guin Saga and Juuni Kokuki might be worth it to try for you.

The former is a proper high fantasy with no isekai involved. The latter is an isekai, though kind of part of the much earlier wave of isekai from the late 90s to early 2000s (it's from 2002, based on a series of novels which started releasing in 1992) from before the post-2012, post-Sword Art Online modern boom.

Simply looking over your completed list your really not going to find anything like "Grimgar" in my opinion that you haven't already completed already. The fact that you made specific criteria for what you are looking in an Anime extremely limits all options to almost an impossibility to find anything like "Grimgar" at all. I would strongly suggest expanding your Japanese Anime horizon and look towards Japanese Anime you wouldn't be normally looking foe even like "Gunslinger Girl" or even something like "Baccano!" (that is if you can get your hands on decent enough copies to actually have an enjoyable experience).

The thing I see is "Grimgar" is a pretty unique Anime in itself for either an Isekai or even fantasy Anime. I would even recommend "Claymore" if you could look past the Battle Shounen type pacing and mild undertones of DBZ effect trash talking during combat. Which would be the main reason I wouldn't normally recommend something like the 2022 "Bastard‼ Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy" ONA unless someone really just loved the original 1992 "Bastard!!" OVA.

If you are simply looking for something more modern you haven't seen yet that is simply an excellent entertaining experience just like "Frieren". I would totally recommend at least checking out "The Apothecary Diaries"... and if you don't like it after watching a few episodes you can just simply drop it. When I 1st watched "The Apothecary Diaries" I had very little expectations for it, then found it to one the best seasonal Anime I have seen released in the last two years.

@ColourWheel
Thank you for your detail response :>
I'd look into them.

Well some anime got reanimated after 10 years of hiatus, so maybe there's still hope .

If I recommend something based off your 5 requirements then I'd say:

Akatsuki no Yona
Arslan Senki
Raven of the Inner Palace
Kemono no Souja Erin
Juuni Kokuki (the downside is dated animation as it's from 2002. It's fits all your other requirements though)
Shoukoku no Altair
Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts
Seirei no Moribito
Mo Dao Zu Shi (Chinese donghua but does have a Japanese dub in addition to Mandarin)
Tian Guan Ci Fu (Chinese donghua but has an English dub in addition to Mandarin)

I never would have thought I'd write this when I started watching the series, but Dungeon Meshi gives me a lot of Grimgar vibes since around the half-way point.

It checks your five points decently. However, at the same time it's still a gourmet comedy. It totally makes sense once you've seen episode 12.

@Ventus_S I'm very happy this is getting a second season! I really want to continue the adventure. I think the last episode is doing a great job at teasing what's coming next without being an infuriating cliffhanger.
