| Welcome to the Fate universe! After Fate/zero, I recommend you watch Lord El-Melloi, including both of its specials. First the 2018 special, then the Lord El-Melloi series itself, and then the 2021 special. They will tell you what happened to Waver Velvet after the events of Zero. Then start watching Fate/stay night 2006. You can always find a timeline on the internet that suits you, but I personally recommend you start with "Zero", which you did, and then the ones I listed. |

| If you wanna only know the main story of Fate, I would recommend Fate/Zero, then Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works followed by Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel movie trilogy. Everything else is just spinoffs. |

These specials and Fate/Stay Night (2006) are appalling. Don't watch these.
| @Mario_Miyazono And what's so bad about specials? I'm curious to know. Fate 2006 can't be called terrible either, even if it's executed worse than Ufotable's adaptation. In general I'd recommend going through or at least familiarizing yourself with vn first, but you can also familiarize yourself with Fate/stay night 2006 or fan refinements. |

The specials are bad and boring. The characters are poorly written, unappealing and empty. The story is not memorable and entertaining.
Fate/Stay Night was the first anime I watched in the Fate series. I like the characters and lore of Fate. But this adaptation is also boring and not fun. Animation quality is bad, character development is bad, fight scenes are bad. I hated Shirou's empty love and character (even though I normally like him). The romance between him and Saber is a garbage drama. Also, the Holy Grail is what they are fighting for? I didn't even feel like it was a battle. I didn't find what I anticipated such a great war. I don't remember how the fights were since it was too boring. If it was only 12 episodes, I might like it. But 24 episodes is too much for an anime like this.

The specials are worth watching if only to get a sense of what was next for Waver Velvet, especially the 2021 special, which is filled with deep nostalgia. The main Lord El-Melloi series, on the other hand, is pretty good, especially from the second half of the show. The secondary characters are albeit dull and empty, but there's "old man" Velvet and Gray. As for 2006's Fate/stay night, the "this adaptation is also boring and not fun" assessment is too subjective. What does "fun" mean in your mind? Battles and more battles? Okay. The only reason to hate this adaptation by Studio Deen is because it superficially shows the fifth Holy Grail War, which is why I recommend play a visual novel or read its contents first and then, if you wish, watching Fate/stay night 2006 as a prologue and the main Saber line. |
