I do it sometimes since I never drop anime.
I always start with the default speed, but if it gets too boring, I turn it to x2. If the series is still boring, I finish it at x2 and if it turns out to be better, I switch it back to x1.
The number of anime I would have drop that turn out to be stuff I like... Its not because you didn't like the first episode that the rest is completly trash too.

I'm curious how many anime you've all given up on early that might turn out to be anime you love if you gave them a chance.

Same here. I may rewind or skip ahead a bit, but that's it.

I do, on very rare occasions when a show is alright, but suffers from overly prolonged scenes. Just skipping them wouldn't be a cool thing to do, because you never know what might happen after a minute of sluggish, static scene. That's why speeding them up a little is the best thing to do in such cases, if you don't want to force yourself to not fall asleep.

I once tried it for a couple of eps of a series I ended up dropping, to see if it would make it any less boring/more manageable, but haven't done it other than then.

No that makes no sense, if I don't like something I'll instantly drop it, I rarely pick up stuff I end up disliking anyways.

No, I tried 1.25 once and didn't like it. If I don't have time to watch on normal speed I won't watch and if it's something I'm not enjoying I'll just put it off until I'm in a more receptive mood.

To the people who think this is weird, have you TRIED watching long running slow anime like naruto, one piece when you're used to seasonals?

I want to experience the long running weekly shows to know why they're talked about so much but Its IMPOSSIBLE to watch at 1x speed.
Makes me want to pull my hair out with how deliberately slow it is.

Why? If you're that unentertained by a show to the point you have to watch it at almost double speed just drop it and watch something you can actually sit through

Go read Berserk and One Piece they're the best thing ever

Am I the only one that actually watches anime at normal speed?

I really don't get this logic tbh. If you think anime is only tolerable at certain speeds because its cringe or whatnot, why do you even watch anime?

If an anime can only be watched at 2x speed, then this anime is not worth it. And anyway, what is the point of this way of watching? It's just a waste of time. It's much better to slowly enjoy a good anime than to just scroll it.

When I really like anime but there's some filler animation or slow dialogue I play it at 1.2x speed. Sometimes 2x when I'm really bored and the show is kinda meh, but I think if it weren't for my adhd I wouldn't do it.

Most anime I watch at normal speed, but if I've decided to squeeze in an episode before school or going out or something, I'll speed it up accordingly. Also, Naruto filler. I sped up quite a bit of it to 1.25x or 1.50x because boredom.

I didn't like speed-watching before, but I've taken to it lately.
If it's anime like Chainsaw Man and Vinland Saga, I'd watch it at normal speed; I'd even rewind certain scenes or watch it several times because the art and music are just that good, and I'm invested in the story.

However, there is just too much anime to watch, and some have dozens of, even hundreds of episodes. Recently I've been watching Assassination Classroom at 2x speed, because the pacing was a bit slow for me, the art is good but not superb, and the soundtrack felt repetitive. Also, I could follow the plot even though I'm watching subbed version and at 2x speed.

Why am I still watching the anime then? Because I'm interested in the plot and what happens next. I'm aware that I might not be able to fully get into the atmosphere if I speed-watch it. But I already know I'm not gonna be particularly touched just from this soundtrack and this plot. I'm not watching it to be emotionally invested in it; I'm watching it just because I want to know how the story is gonna progress.

In my opinion, I think it's acceptable to speed-watch some anime, but not the high-budget ones where every frame is an artwork of itself, and not if you want to be emotionally invested in it.
@BakuGoDokiDoki You got it. Something like Vinland Saga? Never above normal speed. But a lot of mid-tier anime have tons of useless padding that can be completely skipped. Especially if you aren't all that invested in the story and are, just like you said, just curious about the plot.

May I have done this once or twice to get through some slow CGDCT, but the most I could go is 1.5x anyways because I watch exclusively on subs
I geninuely dont understand why you would do this for every anime, really steals the enjoyment and how the work was intended to be consumed

P.S. for teekyu, it was actually better to watch at 0.75x speed, they speak too damn fast

Sometimes, but VERY rarely. It's not for the sake of finishing the episode quicker but more that they talk incredibly slow in some shows.

Before, my policy was to never watch anime at speeds higher or lower than normal, but I tweaked that policy for shows that I thought were boring in the beginning and would end up being more interesting..... I dropped all those shows lol.

@BakuGoDokiDoki Why not just read the manga at that point? Pacing is almost always faster in manga, plus you can choose whether an artwork is worth appreciating for extra time.

I don't think anyone watches anime at 1x these days unless they're trying to show off. 2x is the new normal, might as well add 4x at this point. And two separate shows on each screen to fill up my MAL list for boasting purposes

I've never done this, for me I'm trying to be immersed in the world, characters and plot. My attention solely focused on that which in watching.

So to speed through it seems more like it for the sake of watching as much anime as possible and not taking the time to really enjoy it.

No, and I'll never do that no matter how shitty or boring the anime is. It looks and sounds horrible since it's sped up and it reeks of rushing the anime just to add +1 to completed anime lists. If you hate what you're watching, just drop it like a sane human being ffs.

Never, really. I want to properly assess, enjoy and reflect on the anime. If you start fiddling with the playback speed, there's a very real chance that you're going to get a stunted experience of the pacing, atmosphere, information provision, action, and just about every other component of the anime. It'd a disservice to the work put into producing the anime if I just speedran through it while barely digesting an iota of what I watched.
