Kenshin had such a great soundtrack that really fit the series. I was afraid they weren't going to capture the same feeling and so far it seems to be the case. The OP/ED don't feel very Kenshin to me either, but I can deal with that more so than the soundtrack itself.

As a side note, every else I was fine with as far as acting, animation, etc.

Huge agree. Though I'm not in love with Kenshin's new voice either. He sounds so serious all the time compared to before. It's odd.

I completely agree. It makes me sad to think we won't hear the iconic soundtrack for situations like Hiko Seijuurou's appearance or Kenshin vs Soujiro

The first original opening doesn't fit the show at all though, I prefer this one.
And Reol as the ED is just what I wanted. OST didn't bother me at all.

This is a cartoon site, you clown. Elitism in general is cringe enough already. Let people enjoy stuff.

OP/ ED are okay ,but lack emotional impact!
you cannot really compare to legendary bands like The Yellow Monkey,T.M.Revolution,Siam Shade ,L'arc en ciel,Judy and Mary,Bonnie Pink from the original.
The old anime had one of the best OST of all time, so i knew wouldn't be near as good in the remake .Hopefully will improve the next episodes!

True
I think op should have a little softer like the previous one.

Op/Ed is good imo. Especially ending is a banger and has a 90's anisong vibe. It's just a first ep will see ost grow on us or not.

I haven’t seen it yet so I can’t comment on the OST. I haven’t seen the original either but I did watch op and Ed. I like both Ed’s pretty similarly but the new op is leagues better then the old one imo

Surpassing the original soundtrack was already a tall order, but they should at least tried to make it stand out. It feels so generic.

I agree people are really overrating the original anime

Yeah. Nostalgia definitely is overrated. I really like the original but these new OP/ED feels like it fits the story better.

we shouldn't yes but at the same time it being so forgettable right out the gate aint inspiring confidence, I also feel like soundtracks are one of the things I dont recall needing to get better as a series goes on I feel like you usually get a great feel right out the gate cause the show needs to establish mood and tone. Like Fruits basket's remake for example immediately comes to mind that one's soundtrack makes its mark immediately with its main theme and that reflects the rest of the score.

I feel like with kenshin, we might of already heard some of its best of.

I haven't watched the 2023 version yet, I will watch it later though, and will probably binge-watch it once it's over.

If there is something that I love about the original is the OST, seriously, I've watched lots of animes and Rurouni Kenshin has the best OST around in the anime industry IMHO, if there is something that I really praise about it is the OST which is simply fucking awesome, this includes the OST from the OVA's and Movie as well.

If the 2023 version doesn't have that awesome OST then I will be really disappointed by it.

i dont remember the old series to show its best soundtrack from the get go either, the better ones starting popping up when newer characters started appearing like Aoshi or the dude with karate clothes that wields a Dragonslayer like sword, an the best music they had was for the Kyoto arc

original music is better for sure but new ones aren't bad either, same goes for the OP/ED. even though i prefer kenshin's old voice, i'm somehow already used to this one. i miss kaoru's old voice the most, that one will take some getting used to for me, weirdly enough.

Couldn't put my finger on what was off right away but you nailed it -- the new OST doesn't accentuate any of the cool moments (there were a couple places where it tried but was still underwhelming). That said everything else was OK. Tbh it doesn't seem that much of an upgrade visually.

Old OST >>> new
New visuals > old
Old OP/ED >>> new

It's not bad but on balance I don't see this improving on the 7 I gave the original (excellent Kyoto Arc offset by the lackluster Tales of the Meiji).

The intro fight with the Shinsengumi was good although seeing piles of them dead seemed a bit too much -- kinda cheapens the Shinsengumi brand rather too much if only the captains can put up a fight.

Seeing a bit of blood here and there (initial fight; Kaoru's wound) was a plus -- the original TV series (not the OVA) was too sanitized in order to keep it PG13. This one is R-17+ (violence + profanity) to allow for some occasional gore but I expect the show will still keep the mostly light-hearted ORO Kenshin and jokes while allowing for more blood during the serious fights.

Still early. I appreciate that my 2nd ever anime is getting a remake but it doesn't look like it's going to be the same level of improvement as was done for Space Battleship Yamato 2199 reboot or the Legend of the Galactic Heroes reboot. I know LIDENFILMS is capable if the just-finished Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia is anything to go by (which was gorgeous BTW).

RK has one of the best OSTs of all time in anime to be very honest, talking about the original one of course.
that doesn't mean i'll not try and enjoy the new ones, but this:

it would make an awesome surprise to keep this theme in the remake as well! unfortunately that's just wishful thinking, i guess. ;_;

I was disappointed too. I was hoping the ost would be more traditional with traditional instruments (or a mix) like in Sekiro.

I'm hoping the music will improve, I thought the original series didn't get epic until around the Kyoto Arc where a lot of great tracks were added so maybe the same will happen here. If the Kyoto Arc in the remake sounds bad I will be very disappointed.

I wasn't that into the Hunter x Hunter 2011 OST compared to the 1999 version but over time it grew on me so perhaps the same will happen.

Enjoyed the first episode of this remake though and that opening is incredible it's been stuck in my head since the episode premiered.

I barely remember the original OST aside from the OPs and EDs I don't care much about the whole OST in a anime. I really liked the first series OP/EDs and I still listen to them to this day but I really hated this new OP/ED, both singers are annoying,  wtf they are singing in the OP??, the voice of the singer on the ED is annoying, the music style is annoying, ugh. But my opinion here is biased because I already hate this style of music.

It's really hard for anyone to create a soundtrack as memorable as Asakura Noriyuki did back in the original anime.

Talking about the OP and ED songs, it's also hard to capture the same vibe, as the original had famous 90's Japanese rock bands like Judy and Mary and Yellow Monkey.

Different times, different production budgets too.
