Lmao I was not expecting supernatural elements in this show, that threw me off. Okay episode, Kudou's personality and the main characters' dynamic is exactly as how I imagined so far. And if I had a nickel for every media where someone is initially described as "cold and merciless" but is actually shown to be really nice after a few meetings, I'd be rich. I mean obviously I don't wish for Miyo to have a horrible husband and face more cruelty, but why do these rumors always exist in these kinds of shows if the character is not going to live up to his/her reputation...
Feel bad for Miyo, but hopefully there's more depth given to the characters, and Miyo's past includes more than just showing Kaya and her mother abusing Miyo repeatedly. Still only the second episode and I'm interested in learning more about the supernatural abilities in this show, so I'll give it a few more episodes.

Another amazing episode but in spite of all the amazing animation and all..I have to say I prefer the manga. I'm iffy about the fact that the anime refuses to include the inner monologues that the characters have which highlight their characterization.

I pity Miyo so much, she had such a sad upbringing. In this ep it is clearly shown how she had to live and how that impacts her still. But I think her life will be better and her fiance will treat her right after some time.

Also these special abilites come out of nowhere but I’m looking forward seeing more of it.

Not only inner monologue but also the overall story structure and the character design is different from the manga. I think it's because the anime is adapting the Novel not the Manga.

Speaking about opening and ending song, if you want to listen the full opening and ending song just go to Spotify apps and not in YouTube because in the YouTube they will be more delays to release post the full opening and ending song...

And for the latest episode, I would say I'm in the silent mode because that was more emotional and more depressing for miyu between the rule of his husband to be and her past life..

Yikes, Miyo's rough life is never easy to watch.

I mean, even in the present, she's trying to prove herself despite some of the harsh words she receives. We got more background storytelling with her childhood again but it's not pleasant either. It feels like this episode protrays her life as a cruel reality and she's trying to make the best from she can do.

Their relationship will hopefully get deeper when Kudou finally learns about Miyos past and family life. And maybe finds out that they're somewhat similiar or have gone through smiliar experiences.

I bet they want to get her a redemption, but up until now we haven't seen any build-up for this so it get's hard to feel sympathy for her in the future. And if it's done like zero to one hundred, it will fall flat on it's face. But I could imagine they play it like Kaya is secretly envious of Miyo because she has no supernatural abilities and therefore no pressure to perform something the parents want her to achieve. I mean, this theme is very present in japan and we see it very often in anime.

I interpreted Kudous "follow my orders to the death" as a kind of test to expose how serious she is and if she just in for his money. This could be a sign of him being insecure and just wants to protect him from being hurt because this type of situation happened before.

Another superb episode, the whole situation is so poignant it makes me want to reach into the screen and strangle those who've trampled on Miyo's life.

I think I got the wrong end of the stick in the first episode, I thought that Kouji's father had arranged for Miyo to be betrothed to Kiyoka.

Now seems he's a piece of shit too.

The supernatural stuff came outta nowhere! The fuck? Weren’t you idiots going on about this being a Cinderella clone? You know with the fairy godmother? The Deus ex Machina that acts to help save the lead character from her evil family by helping her attend the Ball? I can’t believe a story loosely based on another story with supernatural elements has them too in some form! This is Preposterous!

Man the way Miyo acts around her husband in her new household really tells you the kinda life she had growing up. It's pretty depressing. Seems our hubby here was just tired of "gold diggers" and intentionally tried to scare his past wives away. Part of why he looked so surprised when Miyo was basically like "yes master" after he told her to follow his every command.

Was not expecting the supernatural elements tho (unless they were mentioned in ep 1 and I've totally blanked on that), but I guess it's mainly for adding an extra layer to the family dynamics like "she's from that superpower family so I want her to marry my son etc."

I'm not saying to make her likable, or even that the show has to spend a lot of time fleshing her out. Just that a character who only ever acts in one way is boring. If she's just supposed to be an evil stepmom and that's all there is to her, then why spend that much time on her? showing the same kinds of abusive actions against the mc over and over is just redundant and unnecessary. And the only thing I can really take away from the mc is that the audience should pity her, what's entertaining about that? And the "evil stepmother" is literally a trope. What do you mean it isn't?
Oh, I'm so glad that you pointed that out. Kaya/stepmom is so one-noted and flat and I see no signs of a more three dimensional character hidden beneath the surface. No underlying trauma or reason that would explain why she acts this way towards Miyo. Actions without understandable motivation are just pointless. Give me something I can empathize with. This black and white portray of good and evil is so infuriating to watch.

Which hurts because I like the storyline between Miyo and Kudou so far.

The stepmom actually does have a "reason" for hating and abusing Miyo but it wasn't shown in the anime yet.

Koji's dislike for how they treated Miyo as well as his distaste for Kaya is gonna bring a downfall to the Saimori family and at some points I feel like he would probably murder Kaya or the two parents which I am all for happening ngl, those three can rot in hell with the grotesques or whatever tf they were called 😂

And Miyo who keeps apologizing for some reason made me think of this bhahahhaha

MANGA SPOILER:
So, does it bother you that the anime didn't really hint on it yet? Or did you actually saw something in the episodes that only manga readers could know?

I mean it's alright that they didn't directly address it yet, but give me at least a couple hints that would suggest there is more to the relationship than what was shown. Like an suspicous look, a short inner monologue oder a reaction to something which triggers flashbacks.
I hope it comes to the forefront when Kudou finally looks into her past and family life.

Not really a fan of this episode. It really feels like the author is trying their hardest to make us pity Miyo's character. Both the stepmother and Kaya are painfully one-dimensional (so far) and the random addition of supernatural elements makes it look like the author wasn't confident enough to just write a normal old-period romance and thus added said elements to attract more readers.

This episode felt so short, it leaves me craving for more, I can't wait to watch the next episode.

They introduced supernatural abilities to the story, I would like to see how Miyo connects into all of this. The episode ends with a phone call between Miyo's father and the Mustache guy, Mustache dude seems to be upset that Miyo's father did not keep his promise to give Miyo to the Mustache family. During this conversation, the Mustache guy reveals that Miyo has the blood of the Usuba family. The Usuba family must mean from the mother's side, hm, we can speculate the reason for the death of Miyo's mother using this piece of information.

---Theory---

There is a chance that Sumi (Miyo's mum), had a strong or different supernatural ability that is desired by Mustache Guy, otherwise, I do not see why he may need the blood of the Usuba family. So if the Usuba family has a supernatural power they might have been called to fight Grotesqueries which might have ultimately caused Sumi's sudden death.

wait, so what mustache guy said about usuba family is about miyo's mom side, is that what you mean? correct me if i'm wrong

Appearence-wise, Miyo is REALLY-REALLY cute. Her voice (VA) has really cute voice too. However, her victim mentality still really2 irritates me. I really wan't to like the anime, but aside from the supernatural aspect, it still pretty much just another Cinderella story. I really hope it may change soon.

That being said, the supernatural aspect seems kinda forced though.... It's still EP 2, we still have plenty of time to see things change for the better for the anime.

Aside from the characters and story though, everything else are STUNNING! Animation, sound, directions, all chef's kiss.

I don't understand what you want. She's there to be the villain, you can spend ten episodes giving her backstory, witty plots, schemes, but at the end shes still a villain that we as the viewers are supposed to dislike. Not everything is a trope.
I agree, 1-D characters were never a good idea. It's not about making the stepmom more likable, it's about realism. Every human action is based on some reasoning. The anime (so far) has failed to address this, thus making her character seems so unreal.

Kaya's bratiness can at least be addressed as influenced by her mom's behaviour, but the same cannot be said about the stepmom. They can litterally just as easily explain this as issues with inheritance (as cliche as it is), but they have even failed to do so.

So far, all of the characters are extremely 1-D, the goods are extremely good, the bads are extremely bad. Sadly, real live doesn't work like that. But then again, it's still EP 2. We might have more real character developments in the future, at least I hope so....

I don't know. Apparently the anime is adapting the novel, and the first two episodes were definitely structured differently, with quite a lot of scenes that weren't even in the manga. So it's possible that the novel uses a different kind of approach and buildup.

To think that there's something like a "supernatural" plot in this story... lol

This series has piqued my interest and I need more.

Netflix should've really dumped the whole season for this series... I can't wait for more... >_<
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

I wonder what the young. master will do when he discovers that they basically treated her like a slave. The servants at least got paid and could come and go as they pleased. I really love the artwork and I was wondering about the timing too. I am thinking it has to be before WWII but that doesn't make sense to me. So maybe they are just making up a period.
