| Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Popularity is a thing that has always led to things being overrated, as new people get introduced to new anime first, they won't know that in most cases, those already had better predecessors. |
| Nowadays so many animes are called by many as "peak masterpiece". That's why these words ("peak" and "madterpiece") have pretty much lost their prestigious aspect when using said words to describe something of very high quality. It's basically an equivalent to saying "very good", or even just "good". |
| It's not like mainstream anime is for people with bad taste, it's for people like with no taste. If you like Demon Slayer, JJK, AoT along with watching some Marvel every year and you listen to Taylor Swift and Bones by Imagine Dragons is your favourite song of the year, then you have no taste. And it's not like anything I said is necessarily bad, hell, I think AoT is one of the GOATs of anime. But, if all you ever like is mainstream, then you got no taste. |

| Nah, some mainstream series genuinely are great and masterpieces I'm sure- if you're referring to Oshi no Ko currently being called peak I don't get it but it was good and I see why people like it, it's worth watching for sure. At least it's kinda unique unlike Kaguya, the other big one that gets called peak constantly. |

| Why do people always want to judge all mainstream anime collectively together like it's a genre? Stop trying to be cool and just be honest about what you like. I don't like ALL mainstream anime but there's a lot I do like, and I'm not going to judge something just based on how popular it is. Likewise I've watched plenty of obscure or underground anime that I thought were amazing, and plenty that I thought sucked. Let people like what they like! |

The newer it is like spy x, csm, kaguya, oshi, thr more inflated it will become The kaguya "movie" has no business having a rating higher than Makoto shinkai movies. The kaguya movie flopped, way too disjointed to be even considered a proper movie, barely innovated while Shinkai animation surpassed ufotable, doesn't have a frame of bad visuals, gorgeous throughout, mass acclaim, high amount of symbolism, foreshadowing. Tensura has a inflated rating and it showed when fuse decided to make a movie with less filler and more focused and it did poor critically. |
