Absolutely brilliant. Masterpiece.

Either that or really freaking stupid. Idk, I can't decide. That's up to you I guess.

On one hand it seems like they are transcending new levels of the human psyche not yet experienced yet by mankind and are pushing the viewers' minds beyond their limits. On the other hand, it feels like they just didn't know wtf to put in these last two episodes

Maybe I'm just dumb asf but all I got from this was that, well, it's okay to exist. MIND F*CKED.

Still really quite enjoyed evangelion as a whole. Glad I decided to re-watch it and finish it all the way to the end this time, because man, what an amazing ending indeed.

I'll give it 6 out of the 10 braincells I have left

Regardless how you see it, this was an Evangelion good end for Shinji. It might not be the real world anymore and Shinji is living in his own mind or a collection of minds, but here he's managing to find happiness where the real world was only misery.

25 + 26 should have been cut though and 24 should have been the end with a sequelbait for end of evangelion.

What the fuck happened? I fucking love this anime, but the ending just isn't as good as the rest of it. I enjoyed watching this episode and the last one, but So much stuff is left unresolved and unexplained. Thank God we have the End of Evangelion movie.

We did it boys, we made it. Congratulations! Omedeto gozaimasu! Honestly I really enjoyed this rewatch. There's a lot of things I noticed that went over my head the first time. Even so I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little mentally fatigued from this whole ordeal.

I would honestly give my left kidney and 70% of my liver for a 12 episode long NGE slice of life romantic comedy. God knows Im honest. I just wanna see everyone happy T_T

Anyway TLDR of the series from what I can gather:
Shinji learns to love himself. The only way to do that Is to know yourself. The only way to do that is through the eyes of others and to interact with them. You may get hurt along the way, but Humans cannot live alone.

That's the general gist at least. Still confused? then go watch End of Eva
-insert NGE meme here-

I started this anime thinking about mecha genre and it turned out to be something else. It is less of a sci-fi anime and more about the spirit, happiness and all other emotions.

Just like episode 25. This was a really interesting and mind-opening episode. As a series finally...it was an utter nothing sandwich......apart from the very end where Shinji was able to come to proper terms with himself and accept who he is.
(Only issue I had is the floating scene which I've seen parodied in Gintama and the 'congratulations' ending which I've seen as a meme gif quite a few times :P)

In a way it was impressive that it was fitting so much into the timeframe as some parts felt they dragged, and that visual novel-style world went on for too long if it wasn't going to be Shinji's creation of the new world. I was hoping that something would actually happen once he broke out from the theatre hall he'd trapped himself in......but then the credits rolled.

We got nothing. Not even a hint of what angels were or why they were attacking. Nothing about why EVAs as artificiall humans were so fucking massive in size. Nothing of what these Dead Sea Scrolls were. Nothing about what Seele planned to do with it's small platoon of EVAs. And nothing truely about WHY Gendou decided "let's merge the entirety of humanity into one big brain mess".

Truely a case of huge potential that fell flat. Still ranking it up there, but hoping that the movies and the Re:Builds can fix up and add a lot of needed clarity to the story and give it some sort of closure.

In a sense they did remake it, with the new movies, but they are very different from the original anime to say the least. There's also The End of Evangelion movie if you've not seen that.

I think Rebuild does provide more clarity, but honestly they are fairly different. The endings are also different, but I would say in terms of "closure" there's more closure in Rebuild...Particularly, after the events, even if the glimpse is limited.

So this is that infamous NGE original ending, eh?

It wasn't that bad, even if it was far from good and perhaps not even mediocre. It had many flaws, of course, but it was not close to what I usually heard about it while reading about so-called "Gainax ending".

Lack of budget and rushed up pacing are to blame the most, but aside from that, this ending fit the general atmosphere of the show. Even with all of its ambiguous elements.

It's hilarious to see people praising NGE for having psychological elements, but thrashing the original ending with passion for being boring. Group therapy, Freudian approach, facing traumas - everything was there in the last two episodes.

binged it while i had covid and enjoyed it. i think the second to last episode was a little confusing but i liked the end. i thinks its funny that i was able to figure out the secret behind Eva 01 early on and Kaworu. definitely a heavy show but good. also misato and asuka are badass

Damn... i had to take a moment before typing my thoughts on this finale episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Because i feel like this episode was speaking to me personally, and i honestly held back tears because i relate to everything that's been said during this episode. This was therapy, and i don't think people would be satisfied with this episode because it doesn't relate to the plot or the mecha world but, we can all learn from this episode. especially if you're going through dark times or you've always been struggling with your insecurities and negative thoughts in this life. i'm just so in awe because this anime was published in the 90s and yet the topics it dealt with at that time is honestly such a bold move in the Anime industry. We should all  take care of our mental health and know that we're not alone and we too have the right to experience joy. we all have the right to live our lives to the fullest. though reality can be so tough and exhausting for most. but the takeaway is we must keep going because we deserve to be happy, even if nobody is around us to believe in us. Thank you Neon Genesis Evangelion for being such a masterpiece.

Lost potential of a good premise. Such abrupt ending that resolves in 40 minutes the whole life of 8 characters. Suddenly everyone is happy.

I know what you mean. It might have been better if they just DIDN'T release episodes 25 + 26. I would have prefered to see it unfinished than truly messed up. Even the "End of Evangelion" movie doesn't help at all.

I think the movie (although the second half I will agree is a mess of story telling that truly ruined the franchise) did at least give context to show what happened after the events of episode 24 and not just spend the whole time explaining what the concept of reality is.

All right, everyone, let's just forget about all the plot threads leading up to this.
Mass-produced evas? What an eva even is? Seele's machinations?
haha Human Instrumentality Project go brrrr.
We were telling this whole complicated story that we swear wasn't just using all these religious terms to be pretentious, but we ran out of money, so we'll just give you these literal voiced-over slideshows and hastily-colored sketches in the hope that you'll think that it's somehow even deeper than all the shit that we didn't elaborate on.

I might like a novel version of this, but as an anime this is crap. No way those "oh so deeeep" people actually like this. And why does nobody complain about the pacing here?

They could've replaced the entire last 2 episodes with that 3 minute School / Comedy / Romance skit and I would've been happy.

Worst ending to an anime that I've seen to date. my god >_>;;

Loved the short skit.

Didn't like the rest of episodes 25 and 26.

From this season, I don't understand why this anime was so popular.  I'll watch some of the movies now.

I heard about the infamous original ending of NGO but oh boy I wasn't prepared. It sucks man. I'm not just talking about the acid trip but mainly the fact that the story is just incomplete. I hope the movie is better.
