Throughout the 2010s, seinen fans have been extremely disappointed with their beloved manga getting below average to mediocre adaptations eg. Tokyo Ghoul, Kingdom (season 1), Berserk 2016 etc.

But not anymore. In 2023 alone, we have had/are having more GOOD quality Seinen adaptations than the entire 2010s combined (Vinland Saga season 2, Pluto, Heavenly Delusion, My Home Hero, Oshi No Ko, Insomniacs After School, Under Ninja)

The 2020s are going to see a huge rise in seinen anime and I'm all here for it

It's too early to tell how good those anime adaptations will be, and MAPPA's Vinland Saga is not a good one. It does look like more seinen anime are coming out in the 2020s than in the 2010s, that's good news.

Historie sounds interesting, but Vinland Saga season 2 is doing amazing right now (not counting the animation). I can't tell if you are trolling or you just don't know the story. If you think Thornfinn's struggle isn't that compelling then that's one thing, but right now what anime is committed to showing why a character can turn into Jesus Yamato in actual believable way?

we're wasting 26 episodes looking at two dudes farming, it's true that I may be early to judge in regards to some aspects like how did he become a slave in the first place or why doesn't he kill himself if he doesn't wanna live. I think it would have been better to see what happened after s1 and to have a liniar storytelling like how we saw him after his father's death, I thin k it was one episode where we just saw him roaming around, no dialogue, that was superb. People say "you're an idiot! this is character development because we saw how thorfinn got to this point because of war" but then I ask where do we even see that in the actual s2? till now of course. And now the story is developing towards einar trying to bang the slave girl.
Compared to Historie and Azumi and even Vagabond (which have very similar elements in regards to a coming of age story characterr development stuff), this show is just ok
I also know that vinland saga was never about war and shit, it's just about some vikings going to canada, the mangaka gave us some insight in the prologue and now he's sculpting the character of thorfinn in this arc but it's underwhelming and slow for the sake of filling manga volumes
but that's just my opinion and overall impression, good for the people who like this

Dorohedoro was great, hoping for more gritty series to be adapted. My biggest dream is for Blame! or Gantz to get proper TV adaptations but I'll probably die before then rip

Askelladd is best dad in anime, don't @ me.
(The fights kinda sucked though.)

Sounds fun. I'll wait the end of the season though before I watch it.

I want that Akira adaptation to happen, but I don't know if it actually does happen in this life. Looks like they abandoned it.

Anime? No, that is one of the most censored anime I've seen. Check the manga. Kingdom is horrible adaptation.

Have read and continue to read it. Animation quality is great. As far as I can remember follows the story well, been a while since I read that part tho. While I would like it uncensored, missing some gore doesn't make it any less great to me.

S1 has better visuals, but I still feel like reading the manga would offer the same experience but better (I haven't read it, though).

It sounds like you feel other media did what Vinland Saga is trying to do better. Maybe they do. Season 2 is divisive the same way this part of the manga was divisive too. It's cool to not be into what VS is doing right now. If I take anything from the show so far, this guy becoming a pacifist over time with almost no flashy reasons why he gives up violence put this show head and shoulders above a lot of other anime.

It might be because of all these mecha anime I watched where badass characters decide for dumb reasons that taking a life is horrible. The stupidity of these characters follows me even now. Their hypocrisy does too, so I am super interested in how VS is gonna handle this type of storytelling trope. I think that was the mangaka's plan, not filling manga volumes but I'm not an editor on Vinland Saga. I can only guess why things are the way they are.

Honestly I prefer Thorfinn going ham and beasting on his foes. It makes me sad he doesn't want to kill people. I can totally feel people who find this arc boring. I guess we gotta wait for the payoff to see if it's worth it. Either way, more anime not focusing on the power of friendship and how to beat this arcs big bad is a positive thing for all anime.

It makes watching shonen anime even more enjoyable imo.

*Imo the story is a slow burn where we first learn about Thorfinn's state of mind bit by bit, then see it evolve into something else alongside other people in the the story. You're not an idiot because you don't see a payoff in the story till now. Too many people on MAL are either passive aggressive or rude. Not cool.

**If we can watch Denji try to live his dream, then we can also watch Einar notch a W for all of us. Or try to anyway.

Bro wait until Under ninja and My home hero are fully out first. Judging from the latter’s trailer and the former’s studio and staff announcement, it seems like they’re going to be disappointments.
