nah, everyone knows Berserk, just that the average mainstream anime fan only watches seasonals and doesn't bother to watch other stuff.
now, Kyou kara Ore wa on the other hand, fluctuates around 8.47 and 8.48 yet I don't see anyone, not even people on the internet talking about it.
i fucking hate manga (keeps reading manga

One year ago I was one of the general public outside Mal and I think I've seen a few anime to make that call ...
Kochikame, it's an iconic anime in Japan.. There are streets in Tokyo named after the characters, shopping districts, decorations, park, statues of the characters...
But nobody, I nobody in the USA /Europe ever gave a crap about making all the episodes available..
Not even fan groups..

Well anime has a relatively small community outside of Asia so truth is most anime that's not streamlined , people around you in the west would most likely never heard it.
It's easier to actually ask the opposite of which anime people actually talk about it around you in the west cuz otherwise they don't watch / don't know anything.

Like they probably only know Spy Family, Demon Slayer, One Piece, Dragon Ball, Chainsaw man and nothing else.

Around my peers they keep on talking about OP, AOT, KNY, Naruto, your generic gateway battle shounen stuff!!!

They also know about some gateway isekai like Rezero, Overlord, Shield Hero, etc.

& then they asked my favorite anime,

I said Steins Gate!!!

The conversation stops right there!!!

Coz they dunno what it is!!!

It's funny because I only heard about Stein's Gate as a game before the anime because it was the easy platinum to get back in the day

I can't say I have met anyone who knew what Odd Taxi was

Bocchi the Rock, Lycoris Recoil, TTG, Sangatsu no Lion, Chihayafuru, Patlabor 2, Oddtaxi, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu and some others. You barely heard about them outside anime community, I guess most of them are niche and tbf most of those don't deserve the high rating.

Just about any anime that isn't mainstream. I barely even see people online talking about most anime and manga that are highly rated. Sometimes I wonder how I even found some of them. I don't know if I've ever heard someone talk about Sengoku Youko outside of a discussion specifically about Sengoku Youko, or mentioning it while talking about Hoshi no Samidare or Spirit Circle, and even those two manga seem like they're hardly talked about.

I sometimes look through more... mainsteam? Popular? (an adjective that conveys what I want without using the word normie) communities of anime fans online, and there are ten or so different shows that take up almost all the discussion. Those are:

Attack on Titan
Dragon Ball
Naruto
One Piece
Bleach
Death Note
Hunter x Hunter
My Hero Academia
Jujutsu Kaisen
Chainsaw Man
Isekai Anime and their ilk

Of those, by far the ones that people talk about the most are Naruto, Dragon Ball, and Attack on Titan. Those few shows took up just about all the discussion I could find in those communities. Even stuff outside of them that I consider mainstream, like Full Metal Alchemist, Code Geass, and Black Clover, were still mentioned much less compared to those shows. Of course, you'll be able to find people talk about all kinds of stuff in communities that are just slightly less mainstream, but in a lot of those the discussion just ends up being dominated by current seasonals.

For manga, even highly rated manga above an 8, you'll rarely see people mention most of them. I agree with what @Ganji-MEX said; I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually talk about Kyou kara Ore wa even though it's in the top 150 manga. I've seen people call Dorohedoro, one of the top 50 highest ranked manga (if you count only manga and not manhwa, light novels, etc.) and top 60 most popular manga (counting manhwa, etc.) and "underground manga." This kind of thing means that manga that are actually much lesser known are almost never mentioned. I dare anyone here to find a single Youtube video uploaded before today that even mentions the manga Spectral Wizard.

That's why I like sites like this. When I find discussions here, there's a good chance of them not only mentioning, but being about anime and manga that I don't see talked about elsewhere. Even if sometimes I feel like people here mainly just talk about the same few shows, I just have to look at how slightly more mainstream communities are doing to remember just how much better it is here.

Despite Fullmetal Alchemist was shown on Adult Swim many years ago, and I would see many mainstream merchandise like graphic t-shirts still being made, and Funk Pop toys here:

I find that hard to believe nobody would talk about FMA if there is a reason for these FMA merchandise to be made in the USA.

The other day, I saw a RX-78-2 Gundam official graphic tee-shirt at one of the Gamestop I went there the other day, despite Gundam 0079 not being mainstream in the US.  I was surprised to see those being sold at Gamestop.

Just about all of them? Depends what you mean by IRL.

The mainstream, up there with stuff like Marvel, the kind of stuff that any rando the street knows about? Not even AoT is that well-known. Heck, not even Naruto. That's the spot reserved for anime like DBZ and Pokemon, that is ingrained within our culture and is the first thing most people would think of as anime.

If you just mean anything that's not that well-known irl even among people that like or at least know a but more about anime, then just about anything that's not a shounen, with veeeeery few exceptions. I can't even think of any now. Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell, maybe.

I'd say Steins Gate and March Comes in Like a Lion. I rarely see Steins gate fans and it's currently the #4 anime on Mal, and I've seen like less than 10 people mention March Comes in Like a Lion on the internet and it's #16.

Your Lie in April. Its one of the most popular animes/romance animes and I have weeb friends who have seen 200+ animes and have never even heard of it before. I've seen a lot of edits of it as well so I literally have no idea why they haven't heard of it.

(I believe vagabond & monster are as well known as popular seinens like berserk & kaguya-sama, so they don't count ig)

Steins;Gate is far from being the 12th most popular anime of all time as it is on MAL, but I've seen people talking about it (not casuals, though).

Literally never heard outside of MAL among the highest rated? LOGH, Link Click, Mushishi and Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju.

Well, that's really surprising in your case. But reading through this thread I'm finding more of these scenarios like the person above me who says the same about the Monogatari series. How is all this possible...

70% of mal top 100 is rarely seen to be in a general discussion outside mal/reddit let alone irl. Even though once in a while I've seen people talking about Steins;Gate or Monogatari but never seen someone bringing shows like Mushishi, LotGH, 3-gatsu no Lion, Hajime no Ippo, Ping Pong Animation, Kingdom, Natsume or even Violet Evergarden in a discussion.

As for popularity, I've seen people saying Steins;Gate, Monogatari or Made in Abyss underrated because they don't know about it, so I don't have high hopes on people either
