It's like they can't live outside an echo chamber and only associate with people inside it

Maybe it provides them a safe space with confirmation bias.

I like when people make fun of other people. Unless it would be me, then it would be extremely unfunny.

Yeah, it's just comfortable that way. So you don't have to challenge your own ideals and world view because admiting that you're wrong can be really frustrating.

because of weakness and mental instability, in my case I would go insane if everyone agreed with me on all points
Even in my anime fanbases I don't get along with people

Welcome to the internet, mankind's alleged greatest achievement. Anime or not, just gimme a nice (Polish) wife, a small cabin in a self-sustaining community, and the skills needed to work the land and provide for our little moe daughter. We would be happy, with no weirdos to scream at me for thinking their series is shallow or full of plot holes. Until a new book store opens down the street. . . . Meh, still better than the anime community.

It's a safe-space where you can re-affirm your opinion(s) with like-minded individuals that probably wouldn't be agreed upon with the vast majority. It often leads to unhealthy world-views, so I'd avoid them in order for you to grow as a person.

In your everyday life you already meet people who are very different from you. When I hop on the internet--as a way to escape reality--I would like to be surrounded by people who share similar views and interests.

People like validating their own perspectives over others.  People like attributing success to their efforts, and failure on the basis of others.  The truth is that not all things are in our control, but a few things can be done.  As an example, no amount of effort will let you become a ceo, but you can try to build connections to have a slight chance of a promotion.  In groups also support what you want to see more of like games or anime.

It's a sense of community with likeminded people.

It also doesn't help that it is a struggle to find someone that disagrees with you that doesn't want to wish you harm. I feel like less circle jerks would exist if people could politely disagree more often. But general discourse seems to always be "You disagree with me, you are a bad person and deserve to be euthanized"

I can disagree without hating my opponent. I guess I'm rare.

I think that behavior I mentioned is more rare irl and is more common with the terminally online. I does pop up irl but I seem to think less so.

Because they slap

In all seriousness, though, people don't like to think outside of their little boxes, because it gives you a sense of righteous indignation, where everything that you do, and say, is validated, and "correct". It's a lot easier to paint the other side as evil, than it is to accept that you may have been wrong about something. It's a sign of low integrative complexity, that gets reinforced by the echo chambers that you surround yourself in. Even more so, when money is on the line, like with politicians and political pundits.

This ground is soiled by those before me and their lies. I dare not look up for on me I feel their eyes

Yeah, terminally online people can be kinda wack but I guess that is just a byproduct of the modern era. Normal people like us and 98% of others are different in that regard. Just the internet puts everyone on an equal playing field so even fringe people are loud.

To always feel like they are in the right, never have criticism against themselves… to feel like they fit in for whatever views they hold. Confirmation bias..
