This show is so all over the place it's hard to even comment.
Like seemingly the mood is "serious" but then also Not at all when it comes to any movement or action it's constantly "goofy/slapstick" like there's no real consequences or character getting physically hurt much seemingly. Then the Pacing *holy* I mean the amount of stuff that happened in this single first episode is insane, ignoring the prologue:
-We were introduced to that they dig on a planet in a goofy way, which seems like you'd get no oxygen but hey okay whatever like I said "goofy" when it comes to anything physical, they dig to expand but he digs for treasure.
-He then immediately finds said treasure and put it around his neck. The treasure is also a drill. Some random girls are looking at him in what I would interpret as almost flirty but I guess they were supposed to be bullying him.
-Then we are introduced to the best character so far imo Kamina, like Stamina but with a K?
-He is then forced to join Kamina and they take a bunch of the pigs they normally eat and defy all physics and laws of nature to ascend to the top of the pit they are in. Only for the "mayor" to already be waiting at the top (this whole sequence really again set a "goofy" mood so much so I even predicted that the mayor would be at the top to slam them back down because of how obvious of a "slapstick" joke that would be and how that basically summarizes/is symbolic for the story/show's relationship between the characters.
Then back to back we get to heavier and more serious lore drops again, Kamina's Dad apparently left to the surface hence he's one of the few who even believes it's real.
And the MC's parents died during an earthquake which, is kind of in contrast with what we see for most of the episode with no one getting hurt despite much destruction and physically impossible scenario's.
-Kamina just keeps dropping both the coolest and the funniest lines despite pulling them straight out of his ass the whole episode.
-Emergency Food. "a dick joke" with the drill coming straight through his legs up out of the ground.
-MC in seemingly the same day, found another treasure. He "breaks" Kamina out which wasn't really needed as he could just leave whenever he wanted to put the Major catches them because he was waiting for them.
-And then a giant head (but not the one the MC wanted to show off) smashes through the ceiling, the Mayor and heck the whole Town's worldview is shattered.
Kamina steals his Katana, and despite basically only having shown "skill" in the sense of the craziest "toon force" type moves. He is so cool and confident that anybody watching hardly doubts he'd be able to take that giant head out.
-Then out of nowhere a "hot girl" with a "surface weapon" shows up, which I guess apparently nobody knows what a gun is either. But she turns out to just be from a town over and so Kamina does a complete 180 and calls her a "Pit girl" while practically sniffing her ass but now instead complaining that it's fat and in the way. Just in case you think he was a ladies man or a simp, NOPE he only cared because he thought she was from the surface.
-They go find the other head which was even smaller than I expected, and I guess he just instantly knows how to control it. They might not know what guns are but I guess they have a concept of "human operated machines"
-Anyway next follow some more goofy laws of physics defying actions sequences with jokes, and everyone being crushed together inside the pod several times.
-Then they finally escape make it to the surface which is again a more beautiful/serious moment, right up until they come crashing down and the MC lands face first into Pit Girl's Boobs, which he is embarrassed about but she seems to actually enjoy which is a little weird to be sure. FBI OPEN UP. Right up until she get scared of the incoming mech heads behind him and proceeds to suffocate him with he breasts again.
Overall fun goofy show, and if it wasn't for the weird over sexualized stuff that a lot of anime have this would legit be something you could pretty much just watch with the whole family.
Like it kind of gives the vibe of "Treasure Planet, Lilo & Stitch, or Atlantis" or a mix of certain aspects of all of them, Crazy, Fast paced somewhat nonsensical but fun. |
