Mob Psycho and Bocchi all had way better episodes than this. 

There wasn't much going for this episode asides from Reze in the end.

I felt the same about the CG the only gripe I have with the more realistic animation is when Denji/Katana Man swing their arms and don’t hit anything it looks really goofy. Like what I imagine a bar fight would look like

I was thinking about this a lot. I love how denji used the chainsaws in episode 1,and I dont expect him to use them the same against katana man since he can't hit like that because he is not a mannequin but in the episode 9 especially there are a lot of moments that make it look like they are not really fighting and it's just a play and they are swinging their arms without the purpose to hurt each other

The key to getting ranked high on MAL is having the fewest number of people dislike it. It does make sense that a show like Bocchi would do better than a show like Chainsaw Man which is basically has the "popular shounen so I'll rate low to be different" effect going against it. Other fandoms of anime are basically coming just to nitpick anything from the get go just to hate on it. CSM is making unbelievable numbers with its views in multiple sites and most talked about so obviously it will have a good amount of haters. Bochi has far less audiance and also very less haters. Almost non existent because nobody gains anything hating on it. Why would ppl even care if bochi gets really high on mal?? But they do care about CSM getting high just because their fav show or shonen did not recieve this god level adaptation so they just don't wanna see it succeed. The controversy u talk about is made by those blind hater. I'm not saying everyone who complains is hater but they are definitely vast majority.
