I checked out anilist and it does show some cool stats, etc. but it looks way too cluttered for me. I prefer MAL too. I just need something simple to keep track of what I've seen and get ideas on what to watch next like what I do in IMDB/VNDB.

I'm only on it for the scoring systems. You also don't have to use separate sites (like MAL heatmap or MAL graph), some of the features are already provided. But I think MAL is better overall, as it has much more interaction and... stuff.

I’d probably switch over to AniList if it was more active. MAL can sometimes be weird and toxic.

Anilist is basically the Twitter of anime.

They will shadow-ban anyone who likes ecchi or lolis lol.

This forum is like 2 and a half months old and it was dead why the F am I getting pinged? who the F are you? why the F is this relevant? how dare you ping me you mal peasant.

I use both site. But the manga data base is better in anilist than mal. Especially for manhwa. In mal it is almost as if it's not existing.

The TOP anime list in anilist is more legitimate, but that's about it.

I have an Anilist account and I use both it and MAL. I use MAL more for social stuff (forums, chatting with friends, etc) and Anilist more for its analytical features (stats, favorites, scoring out to decimal points, etc).

ngl I dont use MAL a lot nowadays anyway so it doesnt matter tbf, MAL was the first ani forum I really tried my best to shitpost as I could so I could gain fame on the internet but then I remember that, it really doesnt matter so I just shitpost as hard as I could until I dont wanna do it. Also, Discord is better, fuck MAL.

I have Anilist and I'm trying to use it more often.. but I can't cause the website is to simple. The only thing I appreciate compared to MAL more is that you can put a lot of anime, manga and characters in your fav but that's it. The layout design in Anilist is awful, like I said is to simple to the point you can't do much in there. Also I see the forums are not very active right there, so it's more fun writing stupid stuff on MAL

MAL is the perfect place to shit talk about people's opinions.

The only thing that I don't like about Anilist is their forum discussion. There's not a lot of topics that peak my interest to interact with. But even with MAL, I find myself interacting less with the forums these days. I will say that MAL is improving in its functionalities and design. But I do think Anilist has the edge over MAL with the fact that you can add as many favorites as you want, the lack of BBCodes, and the community doesn't seem toxic over there.

Only thing I really like Anilist for is the reminders. Sometimes I forget when new shows air when it's like, episodes 1 and 2, and I like that it has a countdown telling me when the next episode is. Besides that the site is boring and I hate how their forum looks. If MAL gave reminders for new episodes outside of the mobile app I'd be gone from Anilist forever probably.

I have both MAL and AL, updating both at the same time. Here's my take:

>AL is more friendly towards friend status (showing wayyyy more than 2 entries on the main page), but that also can backfire as it can get spammed more easily.
>Decimals. Oh my god, the only thing I want to have here.
>MAL has custom CSS for lists, for EACH of the lists. AL can only change profile backgrounds with an extension (that's not official, btw) and custom lists for anime/manga (which is also here, but it's more dynamic in there imo).

I have been using AL a lot lately since I have found about AWC (Anime Watching Club), but when I found it on MAL too I said "screw it". I'm now working on 2 monthlies and suffering.

Final thoughts: AL = friends, MAL = list aesthetic. Idc for reviews in neither platform, so yup, that's all for me.

Oh, and I also think the club thing in here is pretty nice. I'm not in many groups but there's one that posts polls each week, I find that activity quite entertaining.

Pretty sure there are already some apps, extensions or web pages that can notify. Did a quick Google search and found about notify.moe, Taiga (an anime tracker software) can also notify plus warn you when there's an available source to watch. MAL-Sync I'm not sure since I think it can also fulfill that role but at the same time it doesn't tell me when a new episode has been aired until way later.

Didn't AniList ban the term "trap"? & all the mods & rules are Left-Leaning (anti-ecchi) as fuck so I don't understand how AniList is a good site for "Friends".

Friends I meant as for your friends list. All of my irl friends who are also into anime/manga only have AL, and don't even want to make MAL. So my case it's basically the "I'm buying an PS4/Switch to play with my friends". Also a thing to note is that AL has the option to follow instead of friend request. Not sure about MAL since I haven't explored much, but as far as I know there isn't an option like this without having to send a friend request. Sure, there's bookmarking but I'm lazy to do that lol.

Anilist has some cool features. Their "stats" section has some information in it that MALGraph doesn't show. They also have more tags than MAL and more rating systems.

MAL has more anime, though, and a bigger community as well. I find it useful to have my list on Anilist, but I prefer to have my main list on MAL and occasionally export to Anilist than the other way around.

mal is just superior to anilist in every way imagianable. i have no idea why people who use anilist use it when there's a better alternative available.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

Anilist is like a little wave hello, and MAL is like a warm hug 😆

I feel like the social aspect of each are so different. Everyone’s friendly but kind of talks to each other on a surface level on anilist, whereas here i found myself having more in depth talks and forming some great online friendships. It’s nice you can post your own statuses (reminds me of facebook lol) and have more favorites over there (that parts the best), and their layout design and profile options is also pretty top notch, but simple is sometimes better. *nudge*MAL*nudge* Anilists forum boards are also confusing and less creative. Overall MAL is definitely where i feel most at home.
