People use swords all the time in anime, even not in its original purpose like channeling magic. So, which is(are) the best anime scene(s) that involves sword(s)?

My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

Pretty much any scene in the Fate series where Saber is using her Noble Phantasm is super hype

@Zettaiken Did you watch Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru last season? I haven't seen it myself but I watched a YouTuber make videos commenting on the surprisingly realistic depiction of historical fencing in it. I wish that we'd see more examples of that but the only other example I can think of is Junketsu no Maria but it's mostly an irrelevant background thing there

@NS2D No but you've got my attention with that historical fencing, I shall be harsh on that aspect haha - joking.

I know about Junketsu no Maria - mainly because of Skallagrim, having the most realistic and accurate depiction of medieval battle of all media till today, still haven't seen it yet though but I've seen the battle scene way too many times.

@Zettaiken I remember seeing that Skallagrim video way back then as well :D Sword YouTubers are always fun to watch. The videos about Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru were on the Shadiversity channel. I saw someone on the forums made a thread about it https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=2214048

Yeah, i saw "The Mask of Zorro" back when I was still in college in the late 90s in an actual theater... Still nothing in it comes close to any of the 'sword scenes' found in episode 10 of "Najica Blitz Tactics". lol

Either way, you quote me out of context where my original statement was simply just a general one...

So I will say it again... "I say shit that literally does not exist or have any kind of equivalent in any other medium... lol"

Which is completely different then just saying... "any kind of equivalent in any other medium."

This will go down the drain anywayz amirite?

Here are 2 manhwa with rather great sword art. I have no clue if it is historically correct or not, you would have to judge for yourself, I'm no sword expert. All I'm saying is that the art shows the flowstate of the sword combat & that is pretty neat. Something others could aspire to instead of drawing senseless swings à la turn based style.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is another worthy GOTY contender I tip my fedora to Sandfall Interactive, excellent debut gentlemen!

«Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul»

Not sure, but in an episode in the latter half of the series.
Two fateful skilled swordsmen clash in the city square. Each trying to draw out the other's true intentions—and potentially delivering death depending on the answer.
Suddenly, a third figure breaks in to intervene. He's likely a fencer equal to or surpassing the other two. He parries every both their strikes while attempting to mediate, ensuring none of the three are injured.

Gasp. In anime, I've never seen a scene like this before nor after. The storyboard artist, the layout artist, the animation director, and the 3D director have done an incredible job.
I haven't checked the credits yet, but it must be that the action director and the mock combat choreographer were also assigned.
Furthermore, this work features 5.1 channel surround audio. The efforts of the sound director and sound effects team deserve recognition.

Yes, I agree to praise the actions in «Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru» and «Maria, the Virgin Witch.»

The activities of the Society for Creative Anachronism, which maintained a presence in Europe and America, became known in Japan retrospectively in the 21st century after the introduction of live-action role-playing games. Then, tourism for medieval festivals got popular, and they brought back information. Such activities led to the establishment of permanent Western swordsmanship clubs in Tokyo and other big cities.
Since Japan already had been having kendo dojos, there was fertile ground for accepting activities like joining these clubs to master swordsmanship.

The first example of these organization members getting involved in anime was the theatrical trilogy of «Berserk,» where the members also served as mocap actors. «Katainaka no Ossan,» «Maria» and some others were influenced by this movement.

Unlike athlete-oriented kendo dojos, all these members of Western swordfighting clubs have some degree of otaku spirit. Consequently, they often engage in more thorough historical research than European LARP groups. They conduct studies, such as requesting facsimiles of old documents from overseas libraries.
