Imagine you have a show in the top 50 highest rated or top 50 most popular anime that you've been planning to watch for a long time now, but you keep on putting it on the backburner.

You say you're gonna watch it when you run out of good shows to watch, saving an anime "for a rainy day", but you realize you keep adding more shows to your list, and more and more good anime keep getting released each season, which spurs you to keep pushing said anime back as you tend to the seasonal shows that take up most of your time. Just take a look at how many banger series have come out in the past 5 years.

What ends up happening is that you keep pushing it back forever, you either experience burnout or you fall out of love with anime and move on, or you have IRL responsibilities to tend to. What you say you're gonna watch never ends up happening.

Hence, you have "Rainy Day Syndrome". I propose a new term that describes someone who saves an anime to watch at a later date, but never ends up watching it, or puts it off indefinitely.

I'll admit that I fit this description. I've seen a lot anime, but I have so many good shows and popular titles that I've yet to watch, but I end up watching other stuff because I keep thinking to myself that there won't be any more good series left to watch, which is not the case. By the time you watch all the good series on MAL, there'll probably be as many good titles released in the time you watch all the ones that are currently out.

(noun) Rainy Day Syndrome:
Rainy Day Syndrome is the instance where an anime fan saves an anime for a rainy day, but ends up keeping it on hold indefinitely in the fear of running out of good shows to watch, or their time is consumed by other stuff and/or other anime, which prevents them from spending time watching said anime.

I have some anime in my ptw for like 15 years.. I'm gonna watch them.. some day.

But to be fair I've caught up a lot on my list recently because the last 3/4 years were pretty trash and barely any good stuff came out.

Just watch the 3 main arcs of Railgun (Level Upper, Sisters and Daihasei Festival), the rest of the franchise is not really worth watching. Especially the Index adaptations are mostly shit compared to the light novel.

This isn't Seasonal Affective Disorder or what Urban Dictionary says, this term is related to anime.

Yes there are quite a few shows in my ptw +extra which i want to watch, but i am keeping for rainy day. And the list keeping increasing as year goes by. But nothing can be done about it, i can only watch at my pace. I have made peace with myself that i don't need to watch everything just whatever i am in mood as of now.

I am slowly trying to pick a few up. I was very happy when I completed cheeky angel even though i didn't enjoy it as much as I expected. I working on a few like Nodame Cantabile and maison ikkoku (hopefully will get back on those). Well, one at time.

More of a "Saved the best for never syndrome" or maybe "For rainy day in Philadelphia syndrome".

I'm the opposite, usually start with the highest rated stuff, or things I want to watch the most, and work my way down. And sometimes branch off to lesser known stuff along the way.

But I also don't watch seasonals, mostly finished shows.
For example if I learn there's season 3 coming out in a year (or more) for a show, then I will put that show on a back burner until it comes out, so I can properly binge.

"Just take a look at how many banger series have come out in the past 5 years"

Well, they're mostly good but not what i'd call "bangers".

Anyway, mine's probably Ashita no Joe and all those 2000s shows i mean i've watched like half of them (Death Note, Code Geass, Monster, InuYasha, Mushishi, Gurren Lagann etc) leaving the other half (fmab, Monogatari series, Gintama, Aria, Hajime no Ippo etc) which only God knows when that day will come.

Not really. I make sure to plan it out.

Put more priority in an entry that's older (and you can even sort your list by entry last updated)

For example, an individual mentioned I should watch Maoyuu Maou Yuusha and I told him I'll most likely be able to watch it at least a year+ from now once I finish most of my PTW. A yearish later, it was accomplished.

You are trying to make something happen that won't happen.

Also I think this falls under first world problems.

It's rather a sunny day-snydrome. I rather won't go out when it's hot outside and try to watch something. Mostly some lighthearted sol or comedy, because then I can't focus on deep shit.
