The official website of the Kidou Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury) anime series revealed five additional cast, a second promotional video, the first key visual (pictured), and opening theme artist on Sunday.

The television anime will air on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. on MBS, TBS, and 28 affiliate stations' Nichigo programming block beginning October 2. The prologue episode will premiere a week ahead on September 25.

Cast
Nika Nanaura: Yume Miyamoto (SSSS.Gridman)
Chuatury Panlunch: Miyu Tomita (Made in Abyss)
Guel Jeturk: Youhei Azakami (Kuromukuro)
Elan Ceres: Natsuki Hanae (Summertime Render)
Shaddiq Zenelli: Makoto Furukawa (Dr. Stone)

The opening theme "Shukufuku" will be performed by J-pop duo YOASOBI (Beastars 2nd Season), previewed in the promotional video below.

Hiroshi Kobayashi (Kiznaiver) is directing the anime at Sunrise, with assistant director Ryou Andou (Demi-chan wa Kataritai director). Ichirou Ookouchi (Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch) is handling the series composition and script, and Takashi Oomama (Mobile Suit Gundam: Twilight Axis) is composing the music.

Marie Tagashira (Zegapain ADP), Juri Toida (Gundam Build Divers), and Hirotoshi Takaya (Zetman) are designing the characters.

Kidou Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo marks the most recent anime in the franchise since Kidou Senshi Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans) aired in two 25-episode seasons in Fall 2015 and Fall 2016.

The motive in the track is good, but it's too much like another mecha.

It looks very promising! I watched the Prologue and I like it. Hope the main series would be as great as the prequel!

Is there any info about how much episodes will be? 25-26?

I'm just hoping this wouldn't turn into Gundam SEED or G-Reconquista 2.0.

Pretty excited. It's kinda unfortunate that due to a lack of knowledge and an aversion to old IPs that even Gundam AU titles don't get mainstream attention. It's probably going to be one of the better seasonals next season which is saying something.

Well, let's start with the fact that Gundam is quite a cult anime even in the west. Secondly, are you quite seriously using the assumption that the anime will be one of the best shows of the season as an argument for why it will be good?

Would not have expected Yoasobi for an OP.
A lot of big names in the recent cast reveal.

Iron Blood Orphans was probably one of the most recent titles in the franchise that wasn't UC and it only sits at #960 on MAL popularity. I am confused how it being cult refutes my point that level of popularity isn't great for a seasonal. Secondly I mean no I would use Sunrise's production reflected in the prologue and the fact Ookouchi has made good work before as the primary reason. It is going to be a season of highly popular shows and you have this title with comparable production and potentially a great story and the best you could hope for is to do a bit better than IBO.

Orphans are not the most popular part in the franchise and the numbers do not always reflect reality. Secondly, whatever hopes you have for the final product, using them as objective proof that this will be the best show of the season is utterly absurd. Not to mention, Okouchi already has a rather controversial reputation for both controversial script choices and overtly negative products.

First based on what? On MAL pretty sure it is not going to mine through every single title but the main UC and AU titles are not as high for it. In your opinion then what is the most popular Gundam series internationally?

Secondly uh I don't get your weird combative comments where did I say anything objective about the quality? I said probably read that probably which doesn't infer certainty. I also said one of the better ones not it's going to be the best of the season lol. There isn't a Gundam title I like more than CSM.

Yeah there is no certainty that a seasonal will be good for a new viewer if it's an original or they haven't read the source. Where did I imply there is only that a possibly good Gundam space opera is refreshing for the medium and it's unfortunate people don't even give it a look because of the fact it's an old IP and they don't have some basic information on how Gundam even works.

Secondly he has a controversial reputation from people who don't like him I don't share that so in my personal view I think he will do a largely good job on the IP. Code Geass was largely good with sure mishaps but I was happy with it personally, he worked on Turn A also considered one of the better Gundam titles along Princess Principal. The prologue did a lot of good world building and character writing in the first 20 minutes so i am going to keep hopes this will be good.

Sure it's iconic in that people can look at a Gundam and say that's a Gundam but most people have see a Gundam internationally in Ready Player One than have actually watched anything. The amount of English speaking anime fans who have watched one Gundam series is tiny. It's a niche franchise in the Western community and that can be seen through the attention it gets on here, twitter, reddit whatever to a big mainstream seasonal like SxF, CSM, Kaguya or anything else notably big. The fact you are actually arguing against this is frankly stupid. You can see where it's placing on Fall 2022 popularity list low.
This is false

I don't know how old you are, but most people ages 25 and up in the west who grew up watching anime on TV via programs like Toonami or Adult Swim have seen Gundam series like Wing or G Gundam (Both of which were very popular on those blocks). Now as for modern day fans/casuals, you might be right since watching anime on TV (Yet alone in English dub) is virtually dead now that CR/Funimation exists and then apart from IBO, there hasn't been a Gundam series as of recent that made it into the mainstream side of things

Well yeah that is my point. The toonmai generation isn't at all as big as the modern seasonal watching fandom and many of them also grew out of anime and don't have an active role in creating current popularity. I know one of my friends was someone who burnt out who also enjoyed G Gundam back in the day. He got back into it but he wasn't watching much anime for years until I dragged him back in.

Those fans are not your typical seasonal watching fans or what the modern English speaking anime fan is who largely likely got into anime either in the 2000s where you had some popular mecha but 00 and Seed weren't that insanely popular or the early 2010s or in the last few years where Gundam and mecha in general for the most part has been very niche.

Twitter, Tick Tok, MAL even or reddit will be a better indicator and the attention Gundam gets which is pretty small. I didn't even say no popularity only that it isn't mainstream at least it isn't anymore. Within the English fanbase in the 90s sure but mecha in general was a way more supported genre back then. The anime culture is pretty drastically different from then to now. What people grew up with and what influenced them to become an anime fan is not the same.

It would be amazing if Witch got to the popularity Wing had in the 90s when you could mention it with Sailor Moon or DBZ but Witch is listed 24th for the upcoming season of interest. Probably will change as it starts airing but by how much? I don't think it will be that great but I am here to be pleasantly surprised.

Idk where you're from, but most people that I know from the Toonami generation still watch anime. The only thing is that likewise with casuals, they're usually watching just the mainstream/popular shows (Which is fine, I don't judge people based on what they like to watch unless they start talking down on other people). Now a small few of these people are like me whereas we don't only watch mainstream shows, but to suggest that most people who grew up watching anime no longer do is kinda inaccurate - For example, look at how much money both DBS movies made when they came over here lol, Super Hero just broke Pokemon's record even

As for Anitwitter, that's a horrible example to use because it's literally just an echo chamber filled with cancerous people whom are mostly toxic casuals that only watch/read battle shounen (Like One Piece, Demon Slayer, JJK, MHA for example). If you want a more balanced/normal outlook on the community I'd say use MAL or Reddit as reference points, and even then, a good much of us on MAL are pretty old and seasoned too. I don't rate TikTok either because for the most part, it's just a bunch of casuals that are clout chasing

But yeah, I too am hoping that Witch will end up being something great because even though I loved the first half of IBO, the second half fumbled imo, so I'm hoping that this doesn't happen to Witch too

Look all I am saying is this Witch is not going to garner the same interest as a Chainsaw Man, SxF, Dress Up that is it. Even for nicher content like Yuru Camp it's not going to be talked about to that degree. That is all I am saying. All I wish is it got the chance that some of those did in terms of viewership or hey even to the degree 86 did which was pretty good for viewership.

Secondly they are a much smaller part of the fanbase. Also I am just going off who I have talked to and their involvement with anime as a hobby is very low. You might have someone who goes out to watch a new Dragon Ball movie because of fond memories with that but I don't see even close to the same level of support for an IP like Gundam and of course not cause it's Dragon Ball.

Plus why do you get to say well this subset of the fandom doesn't matter. Yeah they mostly watch/read battle shonen but that is your average fan of the medium not someone who cares about mecha anime or Gundam. I wish more casual fans looked beyond your typical action shonen, isekai, romcom listings aka those kinds of fans when there actually is something different. I would like to see mecha get back some mainstream dominance and Gundam could help lead the way.

Plus sure people who comment on MAL are likely more vetted watchers then say twitter but again look at the popularity and number of members if you are a known AU title like IBO you might get 200,000 some members after 7 years of being out for some UC series it's more like 60,000. For a popular recent seasonal like SxF it gained 1 million in under a year so there is a degree of difference of popularity. CSM has almost triple IBO's members and it's not even out yet.

Not sure why everyone is discussing about popularity of Gundam.

MAL is not a good gauge to determine the popularity of Gundam.
If you want to see how popular Gundam is, go to GundamInfo and look at the views. Or go to Japan, you will be surprised by the number of Gundam models. The popularity of Gundam is on the level of Doraemon but not on the same level with Pokémon.

Most people in MAL are in their teens to early 20s, at that time, people are into battle shounen, hence, they tend to ignore Gundam.
Based on my experience in Gundam communities, most Gundam fans are mid-20s to 40s. Fun fact, there are a lot of military veterans or relatives of active military in the Gundam community.

Well, maybe one day, someone should make a poll on Gundam community age group as compared to some battle shounen such as Chainsaw Man, the mean age difference is probably like 10 years. XD

I saw the discussion on Okouchi. Here is the summary of the reactions from one of the Gundam Discord Servers I am in:
Please don’t force pointless high school drama into a war story.
When PV is out, reaction:
OH NO! Not again!
Then Okouchi memes start appearing from Guilty Crown to Valrave The Liberator.
