What a satisfying and happy ending ^.^

The wait was so worth it.

Most likely wouldn't happen, but if there is a movie or some OVA for a lil bit of sequel I would totally watch it.

What a GOAT level series...truly a modern day masterpiece; that's how you end a series (or first cour rather). I might just have to start reading the LN at this rate because man that was kino.

Also...is it me or has Fido been around for a very very long time? Like this bot has been around watching over Shin since he was a baby?!
Don't believe the hype.

A lot of slow progression involving some build-up and Shin finding his path in life which made me kinda lose interest but damn does the pay-off feel great especially with a fantastic end like this where we see Lena 'reuniting' with Shin and the rest.

Good series, the direction and OST is truly some of the best ever in recent years. I read somewhere that this is the first work of the director. That's impressive.

There are though some big negatives; the biggest one being the inconsequences of the actions of the Alba. Or rather, how the hell every big shot, general, politicians etc of the Republic got away from a public trial for their crimes against the 86s?

I can see Lena being pardoned since she's the one that goes against the regime since the beginning, and I can see Annette being really useful thanks to her knowledge for the Federacy since the war is far from over, but all those general/officers that didn't die just got to live like that? I assume that they would have been put in prison or hell, even executed, instead they are just there among colorata guys. Probably they would have been assassinated real quickly in real life by some colorata after what they have been through in those last 10 years.

Another poorly explained thing is why the 86 don't rebel and how they are able to control them. There is never an instance where you see the might of the Republic, instead they are always described and portrayed as lazy and indifferents, far from efficient and capable of maintaining a whole race under their control. Yes, there is this Big Mur which is a massive wall, with supposedly a lot of cannons/fortifications and mines all around even though you never actually see this until the end of this season.

Overall I liked it, cause I feel the ost, direction, some characters and some of its thematics are engaging, even if treated a bit too clumsy, considering the huge comparison with WW2 Nazis.

Oh, forgot to add they had a perfectly sendoff for Fido at the end of S1, with that little montage and all. Why would you bring it back? It kinda devalue the first season in hindsight.

And no way in hell anju, kurena, theoto and raiden somehow survive during that last suicide mission, it felt forced. At least 1 or 2 of these guys should have died imho.

They don't say it in your face but there's an array of factors that were already brought up in part 1. The wall, minefield, half-working artillery as you mentioned, there is also the issue of supply chain with the republic giving barebone support to them, and the morality in the face of this issue. Earlier 86ers that came before them simply bought the republic's word that they would earn their citizenship back for five years service, once their parents or family never got that it was too late and they could only accept that the republic had no intention of fulfilling their side of the deal.

I watched season 1 not too long ago, was disappointed and gave it a 6.5/10, season 2 was no different, was disappointed and gave it a 6.5/10 as well but then the nice ending made me give it a 7/10 instead so that makes this season okay-ish I guess, either way, this is not my cup of tea.

Both seasons are a bit too overdramatic for my taste, the emotional moments are overdramatic, I just dislike all that forced melodrama, I rather have those moments done with subtlety and with better music but it felt forced on this anime, and on top of it, I didn't like the music that much in those moments either.

I kind of disliked the comedy as well, I wanted to watch something on the serious side, that's the reason I started watching 86, I thought it was serious but this anime has way too much comedy and the comedy isn't good either, it was meh.

I'm all up for comedy if it's done properly like One Punch Man, Prison School, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, those anime have great comedy, this anime didn't but I've seen animes with way worse comedy before like FMAB and Demon Slayer (I hate Zenitsu when he starts the screaming bullshit).

And that new loli with the Sharingan was both annoying and cute but I disliked her comedy, she felt more like a comic relief character so she was more on the annoying side, I've found the other loli (Nina Lantz) more interesting since the scenes with her was serious, I just couldn't take the loli with the Sharingan seriously, way too much comedy.

Anyway, while I've found both seasons weak I will give this season a 7/10, and only because of the ending which was nice, the rest of the stuff was unimpressive and kind of boring for my taste.

This anime is mid, action sequences are unwatchable, characters are forgettable and too much protagonists self-pity and sobbing for my taste.

a good finale for this series. what's missing is that, I wish Shin meet Milize current team (or they also joined Federacy) and see their reaction, I mean the Cyclops meet the Reaper, I think it would be a good encounter though.

i feel like i'm the only one that didn't like the last few minutes of it. They slipped in that little romantic bit at the end when there was zero development between them throughout the seaskn. there was a period of like,, 4 episodes at a time without lena in it and the only times she showed up was when the 86 were thinking about meeting her or when her country was getting wiped of the face of the planet. maybe i'm just a hater though LOL

Idk I didn't interpret their actions as something romantic. They're just happy to see each other alive in person and that they can finally fight together. If you're talking about the last scene where ShinLena were about to hold hands, yes it shows their romantic potential but it primarily serves as a matchcut to the 86 title card (with their hands forming 8 and 6)

There is to be fair a lot of melodrama and perhaps a bit too much internal dialogue, which is not a common criticism I give. The adaptation also clearly short-changed some of the side plot, which makes some developments a bit awkward.

But screw it. To people who have been waiting to see Shin and Rena connect again, the emotional payout of the last two episodes is well worth it. It's sappy to be sure, but the two finding their life's purpose and meaning from another has been a very endearing aspect of the series, and I very much hope they continue to adapt the rest of the series.

Okay so this is my thoughts in this.

As just what everyone has been saying, in part 1 its about Lena, while in part 2 its about Shin. The story of this anime is mostly about their drama and struggles. To some degree, their struggles as the main casts here may simply look laughable and a farce, but we must not forget; They are just teenagers. They don't have enough life experiences to handle all of that. Even if they live in the battlefield, they cannot change the fact that they are still in their unstable teenager age period. This is what makes both parts of 86 amazing. The author did a very good job at making their characters and the anime did a VERY good job adaptating it.

In part 1 I was able to feel Lena's sense of hopelessness and the 86's half-giving up attitude; While in part 2 I was able to feel Shin's emptiness that came from the fact that he's always the last one to survive, leaving behind everyone else including the one he put his last words into, which was Lena, because at that time he did not think she could survive the Legion's raid. All of that being followed by the climax of the season: Lena appearing infront of Shin and that literally saved his heart from being crushed. Now Shin can finally stand up and believe that he is not alone anymore, and that he is not the 'bad luck' that kills everyone else near him.

I can see now why a lot of people like this anime. It's simply great, not just the story but also the actions, animations/cgi, and especially the characters.

8/10(+1 for the ending), I love how Lena recognises everyone by their voices, and this is my honest opinion/thought, I really felt like dropping after episode 5-6 coz it was really not interesting as much as S1 and it was worth watching coz of the ending. When Shin saw her for the first time, I was really happy and I didn't want them to meet so soon and I thought It would be great if they meet in battlefield in later Seasons, and the ending gave me a slap by saying "Just shut up and take this Kono baka", seriously this reunion was really too good

Easily one of the biggest let down endings for a non bad anime.. Ever? I think? Top 3 at least. So, we could've have shaved off 3 minutes of the pointless beginning to see a longer reunion between Lena and Spearhead? LOL?

I'm shocked people are even happy with this ending? Maybe it's because no one died? I guess? I like that no one died, but jesus christ. Wtf?

Even the battlefield reunion in episode 11, would've been amazing to see. Even though it's cliche.

BUT I do love how the alba are now the "colored's" it's hilarious karma. But the reunion just triggered me so much, don't even care.

This anime is regardless a mecha masterpiece.

Now that's a blast... I was really waiting for that reunion of theirs, to think they would show it from the memory of Fido.
That was seriously messed up! Such long suspense to get to the great part! I'm appalled but I guess I'm grateful to see this ending.

P.S. I really binged this for a day or two... It was enjoyable through the end! A bit overrated for others? Probably? But I don't care!

A bit disappointed with the ending, there's no romance between Shin and Lena not until the end of the scene that they tried holding hands...
Ugh, this is such frustrating series to have...
CrazyButNot4UJun 17, 2022 9:27 AM
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

They're only helping those racist albas because they don't want their heavily fortified and strategically located country to be used as a base by the legion right? Cause otherwise I say let them all die, with the exception of the select few ofc. Even now some of them show no remorse goddamn.

Anyway, it was a good run. In more ways than one lol cause this show kept me entertained and distracted while in treadmill. Time passes and I barely notice it. Though. I don't like the romance direction it's inevitably going though and I mean I know they're teens and opposite genders and all that shit but I just don't see it working out, if anything it will just add unnecessary and frustrating drama that this show already has plenty of.

Fredrica really ruined this part for me. Her role and the whole middle part were confusingly all over the place, why do we need another "free my onii san" theme and what is her personality and role supposed to be? She didn't become a Shin parallel which I first thought or an example for him to handle the feeling of loss after defeating the ghosts, she's just.... unmistakably there. Kudos to the voice actor though, she did a superb job.

The end was perfect so I'm deciding to forget Fredrica existed. Also this show made one of my favorite songs from a game seems like an insert song for 86. I mean listen to these lyrics and tell me it's not a conversation between Shinigami and Handler One!

Honestly I loved this show. The story, the action, the tragic theme, the characters and the OSTs presented this show quite beautifully. It felt sad yet fulfilling.

The reunion in the end was pleasing to watch considering how all the characters developed and persevered to make it so far. Even Fredrica's character was a nice change considering how the serious the show is. It feels like all the other characters have made their peace except for Shin. He still seems to be somewhat stuck in the past because of his survivors guilt since he has no real ambition or goal. But I think Lena's presence will help him overcome this as the story progresses.

Hopefully this gets a season 3!

Looks like Shin has settled his affairs on being a Reaper. What a good closure. He's not alone anymore this time around.

As for Lena, looks like she'll be back on being Handler One all over again. The Republic surely fell hard ehh. The sheer arrogance and ignorance of their generals and their racist views definitely led to their downfall.

What a fantastic show indeed. Let's hope for a season 2 (or 3? idk).

They finally met! Let's effing go! What a colorful reunion.

i had such high expectations for this cour after an amazing first cour and i have to say that i'm incredibly disappointed with this part. with that being said, even i have to admit that the last 2 episodes of this part were pretty great. i still have some problems, it feels like we rushed a lot of things after doing the exact opposite and having very slow pacing most of this part but i think overall the part was fine and the last episodes were good enough to save it and make it an overall good cour. i really hope the next season gets us back to the things that made part 1 so great while also progressing the story to new heights. i hear the light novel gets a lot better after this arc so my expectations are high and hopefully they are lived up to.

Finished my rewatch of this, and those final few episodes were great and my feelings on this cour have improved since the first watch. It's got way too many issues still for me to call it a masterpiece or a great season by any means, but it was a cathartic and good experience overall regardless, especially for its final few episodes. I had this cour at a 4-5 before, now it's definitely a lot higher although I wouldn't rate it a 9 or 10, which is the great tier levels for me. Can confirm this, alongside Mushoku Tensei and Monogatari are definitely the best light novel adaptations I have come across by far, maybe even Moribito except I feel like more needs to be adapted than just the first book to have a proper answer for that one. Hell, this anime I find to be even more better and more enjoyable now than the light novel version after rewatching it, which I can't say for MT and Monogatari as their source materials are on par with the anime or maybe slightly better. I'd take the 86 anime over the novels any day with how its paced and flows, and the visual storytelling benefits too.
