First battle of the tournament and it's Alain vs Leon, I think it's not surprising at all that Leon won the match even though that was a pretty good battle but they wouldn't make him lose during its 1st match... next one should be interesting as well: Diantha vs Lance

According to me, Lance would probably win the match against Diantha in the next episode.

As I suspected, the reason they brought Alain back to this tournament and in this particular bracket is to do the Worf Effect and scale the power of Leon's Charizard.
As someone who believes that Alain's Charizard is the most powerful non-legendary Pokemon in the anime so far, I think this was very necessary to bring about the test by fire (kek) that Leonzard needs to pass to make it clear that this rank is his. Also, with Ash beating Leon, it's as if he spiritually beat Alain too (although I would still prefer Ash to have his rematch using Greninja, much more now seeing how this fight against Leon was executed).

Unfortunately, once again, time is the enemy of screenwriters. The pacing of the battle was good with decent enough "tactics" and "sense of damage"... to then suddenly be resolved with a SAITAMA GO BRR out of the blue, whatever the Pokémon there.
Blackzard is a Pokémon that definitely didn't deserve to be treated this way, even if it was Leonzard as its opponent. First Duraludon, now Charizard. When writers remember what a super effective is they really take their foot off the brake lol. Easily the worst part of the episode for me.

In contrast, pretty much the whole introduction was very nice and the episode had many details that I personally appreciated, like Hop helping to give energy to the episode cheering his brother, Iris being cute and humble asking for a selfie with the feminist icons, the intro of the M8 hyping enough and without rushing, Lance pulling Steven's connection to Alain, Cameo of Mairin and Sycamore, and so on.

I will advocate the choice of this bracket again, I still think it was relatively coherent to throw Alain here to mitigate the impression this championship is giving that the universe revolves around Ash (although I'd still prefer Ash or Steven instead, even more now). But if I was going to make it perfect, I'd prefer this encounter tooking place during the Championship season like it was with Raihan and Flint and not in the Masters Tournament, and that the Zard vs Zard matchup definitely not be resolved with one-shot. Please no! I think ultimately this result "proved" the strength of the "Best Trainer in the World" in a lazy and unconvincing way. Damn, he just hit a single Dragon Pulse (and barely an Ancient Power, which is also a SE move, but just one of the rocks hit him). Remember that is Alain's Blackzard that we're talking about, go watch its tank feats back in XY!

All in all, have you ever imagined seeing all these Champions together in the same place in the Pokémon anime? This tournament may not does justice to these heavyweights of the Pokemon franchise, but it still glorious to see how we're finally here.

I love that Team Rocket keeps doing their podcast. I just love to see them enjoying what they do.

I don't think they're so stupid as to try to steal the pokemon from the 8 officially strongest trainers in the world.

The first part of the episode was awesome Ash destroying Hop and meting the other pokemon masters.
The second part felt a bit rushed but Dante is just overpowered as it should be, i guess.

The only thing i really hated this episode was the 0 interaction between Iris and Lance, since they are two dragon masters i was hopping for some tips and tricks about "How to train your dragon".

Episode 115 of JN's was decent, the battle was decent, I have mixed opinions on this. I give this episode 6/10. There was no build-up for this battle, it felt rushed, and the animation was good.

Cynthia telling Iris to go easy on her was so sneaky of her. We all know who needs to easy on whom.

Moving onto the main attraction of today's episode - Leon VS Alain. This was a tad bit disappointing. Alain was mainly used to further establish Leon's dominance as the world champion and that's mostly it. The main issue seems to be time; most of the amazing battles we have had in the past have lasted for more than one episode so when the match ends this quickly, it feels very underwhelming.

If not multiple episodes, they should cut to the battles a bit faster and that should give them enough time to write a decent battle. Maybe even something on par with Ash VS Volkner.

My Prediction -:

Quater Final

Leon vs Alain - result : Leon victory

Lance vs Diantha - result : (umm.. this is difficult to predict but we already saw Leon vs Lance so , I think Diantha would win, that way we will have Leon vs Diantha in semi final) Diantha victory

Cynthia vs Iris - result :(same logic, we have already seen Ash Ketchum vs Iris so, this time semi final will be between Ash ketchum and Cynthia) Cynthia victory

Ash Ketchum vs Steven Stone - result : Ash Ketchum victory

Semi Final

Leon vs Diantha - result : Leon victory

Ash Ketchum vs Cynthia - result : Ash Ketchum victory

Final

Ash Ketchum vs Leon - result : Leon victory

Holy smokes!! Alain got creamed by Leon.
Toying with a regional conference winner, that just proves how insanely strong Leon is.

Sad to see Alain lose, but I relished every second of his screentiime.

1st half was fine, 2nd wasn’t. We got to see Hop defend his brother lol and attempt to battle Ash and he ended up losing lol (poor wooloo). The battle with Leon felt rushed and the start of this arc wasn’t great… give us some build-up. I’m exhausted from one-shot wins.. Previous battles have been two episodes so Idk why they were reduced to one.
5/10
Next up is Lance v Diantha.. my bets are going towards Lance but we’ll see when the next episode airs.
Edit: As much as I would like to see an Alain v Ash rematch, I don’t want one w/o Ash-Greninja..

Honestly. Despite knowing the tone of the show. This was disappointing. I understand there is a point in it, but at same time, it really comes off as a lackluster battle lol.

Wow... Alain really got smoked here LOL

Also, I noticed that Leon uses competitive tactics in the anime. His Charizard knew Ancient Power and Dragon Pulse, two coverage moves very specific for this match. That's actually well-prepared from his part!

Next match should be really interesting. People tend to underestimate Lance and Diantha because well... they are rather weak in the games xD But this is the anime, anything can happen lol

I really thought they would match Ash with Alain, apparently not. I suppose it was to see the power of Leon's own Chairzard firsthand through Alain's Charizard.

I really don't want to see Ash winning this, I just don't see him on the level of these trainers.

Diantha over Lance IMO, as we've already seen Lance vs Leon somewhat. Cynthia over Iris obviously. Ash over Steven lmao, sounds stupid, but that's what it's going to be.

Leon over Diantha obviously, and this is what I really won't be a fan of, Ash over Cynthia. I kind of hope the writers throw a curveball and make Cynthia the winner.

Ahhh it's to nice to see all regional champions together!!!!!!

Good to see Hop-kun's anime debut.

I love that photo of Iris-chan with Shirona-san and Carne-san! Three beautiful champions.

Wataru-san always serious.
Daigo-san and Alan-kun looks cool!!!

I love that sakuga of Lizardon vs. Mega Lizardon X. Hehe but Dande-san's Lizardon really is super strong. Well he's the number 1 in PWC. Don't mind, don't mind Alan-kun Hahaha. Manon-chan there crying there that he lost

" that was a pretty good battle " i swear, the users that create the topics like the "Stark" guy love everything despite things being bad.

The battle was one of the lamest ones in all the pokemon series, part of it is because the writers are always afraid to make a battle continuation for the next episode, which is stupid. This battle only lasted half of an episode, pathetic.

Hop was okay.

Iris reaction to getting pair against Cynthia and then taking a picture with the other female Champions was cute.

It's weird when the writer acknowledge type advantage and stats as a way to have someone pulling the win like it happened with Lucario (Fighting type move + amazing Sp. Atk) vs Duraludon (Steel type + quite awful Sp. Def) and now this time with the Charizard duel Mega Charizard X (Dragon Type + decent Sp. Def) getting the role of "not, you're not getting away with anime logic", maybe Ash could get a win without too much work against Gmax-Charizard.

I did liked the battle, it was fun.

I guess Greninja ending was becoming Kalos mythical gardener, I was expecting they would give the XY fandom some sort of "closure/vindication" to Ash' lose against Alain but they went nope lol.

The chances of getting a voiceless cameo from May are a little bit higher or at least I want to believe it.

Rooting for Diantha to win her battle and Team Rocket should just focus on their podcast instead of keep pretending they can steal anything.

All winners in this opening round. Honestly I can see Ash lost against Cynthia but it wont happen.
He'll lose to Dande only to get stronger once he goes to the new Spanish region.

Ancient power in Charizard, I'm sure that's why he defeats him in one hit, due to the increased power.

Although you can't trust this anime either where Pikachu defeats Latios and then loses to newborn pokémon.

Ok so this confirms my issue with Leon, he is waaay to OP. I get it Generation 8 newest in the series marketing this, marketing that. But I think it wouldve been a lot more entertaining if Alan wasn't getting one shotted 2 times in a row by his charizard + that maybe even Alan wins the charizard ditto because of his mega evolution advantage.

RIP Alan, forced to job against Leon in the first match. His Mega Charizard X went down ridiculously fast against Leon's default Charizard.

The Masters Eight Tournament has finally begun!! Obviously Leon was going to win this battle, but it was still awesome to see nevertheless. I seriously cannot wait to see how this tournament plays out with so many top level champions competing against one another at last. Also found it hilarious and fun that Team Rocket are still keeping up their new online presence/radio host work. Next up is Lance and Diantha. My bet is on Lance given his overwhelming strength but I guess I'll soon see.

Probably the worst fight since the start.
The victory of Tarak was obvious but after the first part it was just a rush and a show of Tarak's Charizard strengh but you can't do that.

Alain Charizard is one of the most powerful pokemon of all animes season. He even beat Ash Amphinobi, probably the best Ash pokemon of all time despite his fire type (I know dragon type too with the mega) and now Tarak's Charizard not even in gigamax form overpowered him in like one or two hit.

Right now none of Ash pokemons are on the same level as Alain Charizard so make him lose so easily is one of the most stupid shit of the season, even if they want to show Tarak strengh.

The first part of the episode was fun tho.
