I think episode 4 has been the best so far. I absolutely loved the interview scene, and I think it’s one of the highlights of the entire story as a whole

I like episode 9 a lot, I just thought it was really funny. And it showed us Loid starting to trust Yor more (all be it after tailing her all day and interrogating her) but I just found the ending of that episode to be super wholesome.

4 (the interview) is the whole package. It has everything you could ask in this story. Comedy scenes, emotional scenes, action scenes...

8 (Yuri's visit) is the most advanced progress in the relationship & character building. Romance & blushing comes here & there, add that with spy themed scenes with the conversation...we got to see the real ability of Twilight as a spy in that episode, even from just simple conversation...its like watching John Wick. We know nothing about spy/hitman world, but just by listening to their conversation we could feels familiar with it (some bullshit like Kalpatia, Hugaria, is like excomunicado, gold coins, continental).

9 (Spying Yor) is more advanced in emotional scenes. We got to see Twilight's real feelings...started from envy for others because they have a real family, guilt for suspecting his own (fake) family member, a little blush for the thanks to being a good husband, etc. We even got to hear his own lament about how tiring it is to always wear a mask and try to not be yourself, something that a spy would always do.

This is why this anime/manga is highly anticipated. This one has so many sides you could like, that its very overwhelming to just pick one. And if you started to like 1 aspect, next time they will come with another thing that you will also like. Add that with unusual settings (cold war era Germany) & theme (spy & family/child life), you got a one hell of an entertainment.

I pretty much leave each episode equally, but the slight edge for now definitely goes to episode 4 because of the interview scene of course

Can I ask why the f*ck it has a score of more than 9?! I get it created a lot of hype and it’s actually really wholesome and funny, but 9 is a score for masterpieces, and this is far from being a masterpiece, it’s a nice anime than without all the hype would be a normal slice of life with a twist warmly enough appreciated with an average of maybe 8.30

read my previous comment.

And see it as a whole. Rating equals to quality of entertainment. Some people like slice of life (with some action as a spice), so they will like this like crazy. Not everything need to be 1 bullseye's hit to the single theme...some mix can also be entertaining.

The more child like you are, the more you crave excitement in your boring world...thats why most edgy teens tend to like action anime where every single episode is always conflict after conflict, climax after climax. No wonder FMAB stans is so much here...

The more adult you are, you will start to get bored of how much 'excitement' there is, and how unoriginal they are...the same recipe & plot (MC + rival, fight. Thats it. Everything has it: Naruto, Black Clover, MHA), just different character & settings. You get sick of it. So you will tend to crave for something more relaxing, entertaining you in a way that pulls you out from your 'too much excitement' workdays. Good to be focused on 1 theme, but for someone who has seen too much, that focus would be tiring. Thats why original mix-match themed anime like SpyxFamily or slow slice of life loli anime like Gochiusa would become more enjoyable.

Add that with unusual settings, crazy good artwork (read the manga please, and see how much detail they has in their split page. Anime doesn't show it), has every enjoyable little things in every arc...this get 9 star rating is justified. Anime is not for child anymore, kiddo. Not every 9 star need to be like Naruto & AOT.

First of all I’m not saying it’s not good. It isc but it’s not a masterpiece. Second, call kid someone else, if I have to give a 9 it has to have an incredible writing, with well written characters, good osts, good enough animations, it’s not that it has to be all action. For example Kotarou wa Hitorigurashi is an example of a relaxing anime deserving of a 9. Kotarou wa Hitorigurashi does everything immensely better then Spy x Family. Little side note: FMAB is original in how it elaborate all the various topics, it’s not just action. Then, I’m not even gonna talk about Naruto or AOT, those are good yet overrated series, the same as Spy x Family after all. To conclude if I have to watch something action, which, believe me, is the most relaxing thing when you have to study all day for university for me, I prefer something seinen, because it tackles topics in a much more mature and original way than shonen, but I’m getting a bit overboard

ok, I'm sorry to call you that. It just too many people that doesn't recognize this anime is either child that thinks entertaining = action/edgy dark or just troll. its rare to see cool headed actual adult to not see the good aspect of this story.

But like you said, you don't talk trash about it, just wondering how it get this much recognition (may i suggest you to not put "F word" in there? it kinda misleading & imply that you just talk trash about it while in reality, like you said, you aren't).

I give you 1 more reason why this "good" anime could jump to "great": uniqueness.

How many anime you watch have cold war era settings? With spy theme? and Children + school life? i guess its almost 0.

Why? Because its hella hard to create it. Japanese has almost 0 reference of anything from that era, you can see how bad they are in European historical settings by seeing 90% identical city of every isekai anime they create.

They are good at creating Japanese historical setting (Samurai era) but absolute 0 in any other part of the world. Just like their ancestor who close their border for any foreign trade & influence, they now are not much better. This one, has everything right. The setting, architecture, gadget, furniture... everything feels so retro modern like an actual tech in 60s. Just see the tv, the radio, the cars, the building (for the building, see the split page of the manga, you will be amazed) and even the manga cover. It feels so retro modern with only 1 or 2 characters in the front with some items, compared to jumble-fumble main character fight poster scenes (just see Naruto manga cover for comparison).

The ability to pull you to the past setting & experience (just read the manga/wait for the anime for the dog arc, and listen to the handler speech about war) that you never ever been...thats one hell of a great research & writing.

For westerner who see everything in here everyday in their own city or history book, this is not great. "Oh, its like what my granpa always had, cool" But for manga reader in every other part of the world...this is magical.

Honestly, I just think the bottomline is because we haven't had any masterpiece for a loooooong time, and this comes pretty close for being an all-rounder very entertaining show. The industry just doesn't feel like it's the same anymore, and they just constantly crap out new isekai dumpster fire every season. Yes, SxF doesn't break any grounds, but it is so safe, so entertaining, and has such quality production value that there isn't much you can hate about it, unless you absolute how to TRY to hate it by hyperfocusing on how the show is cliche, it is tropey, it doesn't make sense sometimes and it doesn't do anything ground breaking.

Honestly, the show is a lot like Kaguya but more wholesome, and people were okay with that show being close to 9 even though that show was also very tropey and cliched.

Like, people saying this deserves a 7-8 at best... fr my g's, have you guys even seen some of the shows being rated as between 7-8 in this season? lmfao

The arguments you are bringing are perfectly understandable, but we have to consider that the entire rating system of MAL doesn’t represent the real quality of an anime, but the appreciation of the audience. The problem are all the people that give scores only based around simply enjoying or not enjoying a shows, while there are others who, and maybe THEY are the ones who are wrong, prefer giving scores based on a focused analysis. What could save this situation could be MAL letting people giving two scores, one based on enjoyment and another, more objective, based on how actually the show values
