Awesome anime, it was a really fun watch, 10/10

Lain is still Lain, she's God now, watches over humanity.

Arisu is pretty.
Anime is fun.

Holy shit was this anime complicated as fuck. I hate finishing something and not completely understanding it so I literally ate the wiki in search of information to understand the anime. After understanding the anime, my point of view changed on it that my rating changed from 7 to a 9. I suggest that if you didn't understand the anime (which is most likely) go read a little on it and your opinion will drastically change

The dark and oppressive atmosphere was perfectly executed and the fact of this series being so ahead of its time is truly impressive. To think that being able to connect with different people without the necessity of physical closeness as well as having our own separate personas/avatars on a separate plane from our tangible world were already foreseen by a series created when internet was only giving its first steps...

This is what shocks me the most about this show, it's date of release considering where internet was at that time, a lot of what this show attempts to take on and portray can be deemed accurate to this day; Struggling with one's identity along with many other challenges society faces psychologically due to the internet.

Despite leaning towards the ambiguous side at certain aspects of the story, this series provided a chilling, dark, and mind numbing ride that I won't be able to forget.

This was a very question rising ride till the very end. I'm satisfied by the way it ended but also sad that Lain had to go. It really was an unique anime with phenomenal atmosphere, memorable as hell OP and great pacing at certain parts. Even if it felt very confusing and sometimes there was this feel of not wanting to watching next episode I still have no regrets watching it and making it till the end, even if that took me more than a month to do.

I can safely say we won't be seeing anything like this ever again (probably) and this goes on the same tier of confusion like Evangelion. If theres an anime that has similar atmosphere as this I really would like to know and watch it but for now I can this is one of the best Sci-Fi / Supernatural anime out there

An awesome anime! The neural network part was quite deep, and the way Lain rejects Masami Eiri's plan was just dope. It's sad that she had to make the ultimate sacrifice by deleting herself from other's memories to reach the wholesome ending. But damn, at least her father was there with her in wired to talk to her :')

Also, damn adult Arisu looks beautiful XD

5/5 episode.

Overall 8.5/10 for me.

Ok. So honestly,I wasn't able to wrap my mind around this show. After the first 2-3 episodes, I lost track of the show for the entirety of its run. Having said that, I can't really say that I got bored while watching it. Though I think some of the things that were shown were completely unnecessary time-waste , for example the part where the entire history of science and computer is explained or the first half of an episode where an unnecessary recap is shown in the most bizzare way possible.... Anyways, keeping all that aside, the final episode was easily the best episode. Having watched this , I don't regret watching it. Though unlike others I won't give this a perfect score just coz the final episode was great. 6/10.

I kind of get the main themes of the show, like the alienation, duality, existential crisis, exploitation, etc, which, tbh, are clear as day.
The first few episodes of the show introduced many elements, only to get forgotten in the subsequent ones (Accela drug and the KIDS program off the top of my head).
The ending makes sense since the timid Lain would rather run away than face her problems. Also she not only rewrote everyone's memory but also revived Chisa; which leads me to believe that the real world might not be the real one after all.
It's a 7/10 for me since the first few episodes felt, to me, complex just for the sake of complexity.

In conclusion, Lain is either God or an advanced software :o

The ending makes me a bit sad. Lain reset everything and was depressed without a physical body, she eventually becomes a "memory of the future"(?) and regains her physical body. Lain loved Arisu, like in a gay way, but didn't get to end up with her ;( at least they were able to meet again...

I will say I have to applaud the creators - this anime came out in 1998 and was way ahead of its time. All the themes are still relevant now.

I am still very confused about a lot of things, but I understand the whole picture now, at least.
I liked this last episode the best, most of the other episodes made no sense at the time of watching it so I got really bored of this anime and it took me a long time to complete it. I was going to give this a 4/10 but this episode changed my mind. I gave it a 5/10.

A solid anime for sure, like ngl I was fairly confused and lost during the overly surreal parts in the mid but it all came together pretty well as the final episodes played out. I liked the overall character development for Lain & Arisu and the regain of the separated real world and the Wired was also done pretty well. The entire thing did feel like a fever dream lowkey but it was still something that left a pretty strong impression on me for having felt so boring and unnecessarily confusing at times.

All in all, I liked it quite a bit, a whole lot more than I thought I was going to so a 10/10 for meee ^_^

P.S. I'd definitely go for a rewatch sometime later after researching some explanation stuff to get the entire thing better.

Oh well... It either you understood the show and enjoyed it or found it confusing and tedious. Well, I'm the second one. Well, now it's time to search for a full explanation for this series (I just finished watching it. it all makes sense now).

Not a bad show, just not my type.

The first few episodes were interesting, the middle part (until the 12th episode) was both confusing and boring as hell for me. But I loved this episode, it made me kinda understand what the hell is going on, but still not a perfect episode. I like the ending tho.

loved it, definitely one of my favourite anime. i really like the different themes they talked about, and contrary to some other comments on here i really like that there's much to interpret, but i understand that this anime might not be everyone's cup of tea. i certainly won't be able to stop thinking about lain the next few weeks, the anime really left an impact on me. the last episode was even sadder than the rest of the episode, but tbh i don't see how there could have been a happier ending. like the sad atmosphere though!

i'll probably rewatch it some other time, to understand even more. :]

omfg we are the people viewing lain so we are the people keeping her alive? it’s like this whole anime is interactive with us, Lain only exists because we are perceiving her. Just like how God only exists so long as we worship it.

This was one of the best things i've seen (well lately i'm watching a lot of things ending up in my faves, very happy about that). usually when i like a series after finishing it i may feel like rewatching some specific scenes and moments, listening the soundatrack or whatever, and if the show isn't totally straight-forward (like it's Lain case, although i think it's BY FAR less confusing than what people make it out to be, but that's typical, Evangelion isn't that complicated either) i may want to rewatch in a not too distant future. In this case i feel the urge to rewatch this immediately after finishing it, thing that i may actually do in some hours or tomorrow, depending on what i have to do
10/10
P.S. Continuing the NGE parallel: People say EoE ending is depressing, then WHAT THE FUCK is this good sir? This was so fucking sad despite the nice music and imagery

It is 1998 and the internet was created by aliens. That who controls the spice wired controls the world.

The anime took some... liberties.... with the premise. I suppose for the average public in 1998 to whom a computer was "that thing nerds did" it was okay, but the concepts have not aged well.

The show did not knew what it really wanted to be, it started alright, but then it decided to be smarter than it needs to be. The plot may be considered cliche (especially the ending) nowadays, but in 1998 it wasn't as common so that could be forgivable. And the art directing was good (strange, but good, unlike FLCL). However they could have done so much more with the concept.

There are also some minute details, like the two black ops guys being paid off and killed off. That was unnecessary and made things less scary rather than more. Had they were left alone to "run" to a place that does not exist it would have been a much scarier fate for them.

Overall this is a 6/10. I expected more.

damn this ending is really sad for lain.. like I know she just came back to where she originally belong but damn.. like she did all of this, for her friend arisu.. and what makes it worse is she erased all of their memory, so it seems like she never existed in the first place.. it's so sad yet so beautiful..

Oh, so Lain reset everything without her existence in her younger day but decide to continue this time, which explain grown-up Arisu? And since she is the only God in the Wired, therefore it shouldn't have paranormal things happened without the God complex Eiri.

Pretty cool, probably will rewatch, I also love how everyone is much more happier/normal/less crazier now that without weird Wired buggy things happen.

Really mixed on this in retrospect. The entire Lain viewing experience is comprised of a handful of thoroughly good episodes interspersed with a bunch of alright ones that are marred by retarded arthouse bullshit that doesn't mean anything. Don't get me wrong, there's some stuff that's kinda harrowing in retrospect through becoming more prescient (like the manipulation of information and the compulsive need for everyone in the show to prove their existence), though a lot of the stuff Lain gets at is immediately observable throughout history - just removed from the global scale that the Internet facilitates.

Despite my gripes, this is still up there as one of my favourite anime. Where Lain's strength really resides is in its ability to conceptualise the Internet at its logical extreme with the whole plugging yourself into the wired motif and themes of divination yada yada yada everyones said that before.

One of the praises that only I seem to give this series is the line delivery and character interactions, if only for the right and wrong reasons. All of the characters in the real world are skin-walkers and I love it. It really immerses you in Lain's perspective and her way of thinking as someone who doesn't belong in the real world.

Anyways, I'm eternally grateful to this anime for getting me into bôa. Pretty much every single other song in their discography (though if I had to pick the >>> of the >>>, it would probably be between Little Miss or Elephant) >>> Duvet, which is kind of a big deal considering Duvet's alright.

<plot theory>
Present day... Present time...

Before playing that, "You cannot rewrite the record." "Really?"
Lain has been Rewriting the record the entire show. Perhaps this is depicting Lain was always in control from the beginning. The entire show is Lain's own narrative.
<>
This show was just a foolish depiction on a girl hallucinating normal things and what goes on in the mind. Made in the era were the internet was introduced and could be thought of as a new reality. I may just be to naïve at this time, but I do not see any deep meaning within this show. This just seems like the author took a concept and kept on spitting on it to make it more dense and less understandable, Adding layers to something simple to make it seem complicated and make the viewer feel like an intellectual after watching it.

will likely re-watch this properly later and not binge several episodes at 1 AM

So it's kinda funny how watching this anime and finishing it has been a long process...
To preface: I knew the intro by Bôa way before knowing what this anime was, and I bonded with a very special person in my life about the intro, which was how I was introduced to the anime. :')

Now to talk about episode 13.. I thought the ending was amazing and I really like how Lain erasing herself from everyone's memories wrapped up the whole anime. I think that it also tied into the butterfly effect- where every action has a consequence. Even though the anime isn't based on time travel (where the butterfly effect is mostly used in animes/shows/movies), I think Lain reversing her actions and erasing herself was like a time travel in a way, which I found really fascinating.

I wish her and Arisu could've stayed friends :(
I've seen a bunch of talk about if lain was a good person or bad and I think she genuinely was a good person who just made mistakes like the rest of the world- which is also kinda funny considering she wasn't suppose to be "real" just a body. But, I think when Lain tried to fix everything for Arisu and then realized her mistakes, erasing herself was how she fixed that. It felt like an act of selflessness in my opinion.

I loved this anime so much and I had to give it a 10/10 especially for all the way it can be interpreted!!

I <3 Lain :D

"In The Wired, no matter where you go, everyone's connected."

Brilliant
Although having poor quality production and a very messed up direction, SEL not only captures the dark sides of the internet but also predicts its potential and harmful effects, from VR glasses, social media growth, hackers, information leaks, blackmail, etc... from the time when the internet was just a concept and no one expected it to be as big as it is today. The psychological aspects are also must to mention, human identity in the age of technology, where personalities in real life and online are mixed lead to the true self being forgotten. SEL also addresses the problem of human insensitivity, the feeling of loneliness and betrayal, not only showing it right, but SEL also shows this very surreal and shockingly. despite the crappy animation duo to the poor quality production, the camera shots and the ambiance sound/music still provoke a trembled creepiness atmosphere.

Overall 9/10, an unforgettable experience, a timeless classic that goes ahead of times
