Gojo-kun seems to have a mixed reception, especially compared to Marin's universal acclaim. How do you feel about Gojo-kun?

If necessary, specify if you've an anime-only watcher, or if you've also read the manga.

Anime only. He’s great because he feels very realistic.

He has a “unique” hobby and no friends - true - but he is a completely normal guy. He’s intelligent, driven, and caring. This episode especially, you can see him trying to balance family with studies with his own hobby and finally with his commitment to helping his new friend. It’s overwhelming for him and the way he reacted to that felt very realistic. I really like all the layers to his character.

I really dont see any reason for people to complain about him. For a rom-com, this is probably one of better written main characters if you ask me.

I like him, he may seem like the stereotypical annoying overly shy no friends can't talk to girls kind of guy at a first glance, but (to me at least) that goes away when Marin show's up and even more so later down the road (Manga reader through vol 4 btw). Add that to the dedication he's going to fulfil Marin's cosplay wishes, from the overworking, learning about what she's cosplaying as, and the skills he can transfer from his hina doll making, and he comes off as a good friend (and future boyfriend) who would do whatever it takes to help make your dreams come true.

He is another self-inserting character, to be fair.

I only watch the anime.
Gojo-kun had a real personality, that you can share emotions with him.
This last episode bring me that though and I can't not complain.

BEST BOY who deserves the BEST GIRL MARIN.

I was sincerely hoping that Kitagawa would hug Gojo after she realized how hard Gojo worked, too bad though, he really deserves all the love for what he did all because he wanted to make Kitagawa happy and her dream come true.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

He isn't the worst character ever by any means but he just kind of exists. Not that entertaining or interesting to watch, can be somewhat annoying at times. He is a hardworking guy though when dedicated to the cause, to an unhealthy degree but he's committed at least. So there's that to praise I guess.

I'm not exactly in love with him as I do have some minor issues with his character, but so far I really praise his endeavors and how he does get worthwhile character development that actually felt well-earned. The recent episode showed me a part of him that I can somewhat relate to, tbh, except I ended up the unlucky one due to my gradual lack of motivation and support to otherwise keep me in....so it hit a bit harder for me than for many others, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for me or him.

As a person that grew up alone with my grandmother and I was mostly alone at home, my only hobby was drawing while listening to the radio, I completely feel in tune with this character.

For the comments saying he is just a self-insert, he is more than that. He is a caring, kind person. I really like that he isn't waiting for anything back in return. I'm not like him on this regard, thus I'm learning how to be a better person.

To me, he’s been the reason the shows been a close-but-not-there-yet-7. Marin is fantastic as a main and deserves the universal acclaim she’s received, but I’ve seen too many introverted (or slightly introverted now), self-insert, hardworking, scarred childhood, male leads, and Gojo is not really standing out outside of being a seamster.

I’m optimistic the show will be one of the best of the season.

Gojo is a good character.
He is flawed, which is good because that means a lot of potential for character development.
His predicament, insecurity and anxiety is well explained by traumatic experience involving his former childhood friend. Marin is a perfect match for him, because she is that kind of Mary Sue, whose role is to induce character development on someone else.

Some morons, who Shall Not Be Named even went as far as to compare him to Kazuya, because he did not tried to do 388535 on episode 2 or something.

I was a little hesitant about him at first, especially while watching the second episode. But man that fourth episode completely changed my mind. Gojo kun is a true chad. I thought he was gonna be another self insert character, but fortunately I think I’m wrong.

For the anime alone he’s pretty annoying and simpy. For the most type those character archetypes are very annoying. Why is it always a loser MC and a cool girl. It’s just eh. Cool hobby but lame person
The right mindset when watching an anime is hoping that it will break your top 10

(Manga reader) He's shy ofc but when it comes to taking cosplay seriously he's the best, he wont be "distracted". Also, this shy personality comes from a lil problem we saw in the first episode, and we will probably see more details about it later, since either the manga hasn't touched that subject. I like him tho, he's really nice and he is so passionate about Hina Dolls, even if some ppl thinks he wrong cuz he's a guy

I love him

He isn't a "self-inserting character".

Personality is make by the enviroment; Gojo had, literally, zero friends in his whoole life, what do you want of him? To be an extrovert flawless and confident big harem creator like Bakarina (don't missunderstand me, I love her 2)? Pfff, unrealistic.

He's a shy kind guy, nothing extrange. The world has many boys like him.

Everyone doesn't are assholes, he's just a pure boy who has tus first -female- friend, it's normal he wants makes she happy and comfortable. Also, he is... like this with eeveryone.

I think he is a lucky guy, at least at the moment. But what will determine that in the future is Kitagawa and if she really considers them friends. The crying in the most recent episode after she sees how he exhausted himself for her puts my kind at ease.

I have been thinking, Gojo could expand the Hina dolls business and have a custom cosplay thing going on the side.
