Pretty relaxing episode, until the final part of the episode.

yeah!!! Chisato in normal class's uniform
The student council election. Kanon or Sumire or Ren as a council president? Sumire got a 20points deduction from her takoyaki bribing. lol. That's what would be called karma for you. Anyways, Ren still won the election. It's discrimination when those normal classes were not able to participate in the festival. They should change the rules as soon as possible.
Ren's past was pretty dark, we would know more about it in the next episode. And then it's time to save your school again.

So, it's time to save the school once again. I hope they'll manage to solve all the issues.

I feel sad for Ren. She lost her mom and she's also fighting with financial issues.

"What?!" xD

Keke's "love confession" was adorable.

Those post-credit songs are like a lullabies. They are so relaxing.

Terrible. They are re-using the "we have to save the school plot". Can't have anything new in this franchise it seems... they must default to the same plot beats.

We still don’t even have that much context on that part. You just need to wait till the season is over if they’re going to use it which I doubt. I heard it was more that they’re going in debt. Eng subs aren’t even out, though if you know Japanese than alright. I only mentioned that because there are a lot of rumors going around in the EN fandom when they don’t even know a single thing said in the anime. If the school was actually “closing down” then why isn’t the headmaster worried? It’s clear that she and Ren’s mom were really good friends before she passed away. In a way, it’s more of Ren being paranoid about the school since she is going through an economical problem since she is the only person living in that big mansion, no support from parents and she is basically alone. Gotta use big brain

Aside from my comment, I am glad we are going to see why Ren is against idols. I have a feeling her mom will be playing a major part. I feel really bad for her because she basically only has her dog Chibi and the school as her comfort. She’s obviously bottling up her feelings and is lonely. I’m really glad we are getting a deep and realistic back story. It’s sad to see that Ren is basically going through an economical problem and has no one else to help. I have a feeling if the school is going in debt, I believe this would make a chance to completely remove the music course. It’s obvious the general course does not like the way they’re treated and it’s also a smart way to not fully force Ren into switching to the general course for Liella. I was also honestly surprised the headmaster was friends with Ren’s mom. I honestly doubt they’ll be reusing the whole “school is closing down” plot because again, the headmaster was not worried at all, which anyone would be worried about and they’re all 1st years, no way will they start that fiasco up when we’ll possibly be getting 2 more anime seasons. I hope the director knows what he’s doing as, he directed SIP and I don’t think he’s that dumb knowing that the anime has been going really well

No shit. Another school that's about to close down.

OK episode overall. The girls' antics continue to be quite funny to see but Ren sure is making it difficult for me to like her character.

Anyways, guess the promising idea of Kanon taking the lead in a protest against Ren is over now that the main girls know about her sob story.

Lmao. The director and Ren mentioned the financial crisis of Hazuki's and some of the team of Onibe and r/Love Live discord says it's not the school ia gonna shut down it was a "financial crisis" and Ren despite being rich girl she is truly a broke when she give a paycheck to Saya the maid who voiced by Kana Hanazawa mentioned that Ren don't have money anymore.

And you didn't realize that the introduction of Yuigaoka's goal is to reach atleast 300-500 students

The school will not close any soon. However, their school is in a bad shape with the financial crisis and debt. So, the school will not close, but if this crisis still continues, the school is at risk for its closing. Ren, who knows about the problems might find some way to save their school's financial situation from the school idol activities when she joins the group.

About why Ren doesn't like the school idol might be related to her mom as well. If you look at the photo inside the album you will find that there are Ren's mom, the current headmaster, and three other friends, five students altogether. The same amount as Liella. Her mom could try to save their school by being a school idol and then failed.
Ren's life was very sad, tbh. Her mom died, her financial situation is also in a bad shape as well. The ones who left staying with her are only the maid she could not hire anymore and Chibi, the old dog. She got no one left.

Sumire keep getting beaten by everyone.

Today I learned the password for LL Superstar meetings.

I seriously need both Ren and Sumire election poster, the pictures were gorgeous.

I love dogs, but Chibi have a certainly sour face for a probable pyrenees, even with the hearts on the ears make cute.

Now we talking about Love Live, that is about saving the school. But this time directly influence the cast , or at least Ren. Now I got more invested.

Sumire becoming the loser as always. She had 20 votes deducted by advertising takoyaki, and now she and her friends got caught by Ren's dog, Chibi.

Speaking of Ren, I've never felt bad for anyone ever in the Love Live! series. She apparently lives in a very rich-looking house, but other than her maid and her dog, she's been living all by herself, and since her mom has passed away, her life has been dreadful. I can understand why she's not into school idols anymore. I hope she'll have a better life after she joins Liella!

Chibi is one big dog! I think it's even bigger than Shiitake.

Meh episode

I seriously hope they are not reusing the school closing/not enough enrollees arc again. I would hope that this staff can do something better than that.

I assume the girls selling takoyaki for the election was suppose to be funny, but considering that Chisato is just an employee at that place, I'd imaging giving away products like that would be a fireable offense.

They also probably should try not to use A-rank VAs for all of these side characters. I know they have the budget to afford them, but by using them, it makes the main cast sound weaker.

i dunno how i feel about another live live series having a school that needs to be saved. we already got that with SIP and sunshine. just have to wait to see how it all pans out. ren's singing voice is my favorite out of the 5, so hearing her version is very nice. also hits pretty hard knowing that her mom is dead and that she's trying to keep the school alive

Comfortably Superstar's worst episode so far. From doubling down on Ren's stubborness about school idols - when the previous explanation that she was thinking about the school's reputation sufficed - to seemingly reviving the "we must save the school" plot that every main Love Live circles back to (no, Nijigaku doesn't count, as it's a side series and not a main one), this made for a frustrating episode. Does every single mainline Love Live have to go back to those wells? Are the writers that utterly lacking in creativity that they can't think of anything else to serve as an obstacle to the formation of a school idol group, or anything else to serve as a motivation for said school idol group?

Also, this was probably the weakest episode on the comedic front so far as well, with pretty much none of the jokes landing at all: in particular, the jokes about the dog being too big to be real were entirely unfunny and just felt like padding to fill the runtime.

As for what we gleaned of Ren's backstory so far, it's not deviated too far from my expectations: she's been burdened with a lot of responsibility from a young age and is doing what she can to hold it together even as things gradually fall apart financially. That fits well with her previous reason for not wanting school idols to exist, and I can't understand why she couldn't just say that to Kanon when she asked instead of going for the "cos reasons" card. The only piece probably missing in the puzzle is something else to do with her late mother and school idols: I bet her mother and those friends from the photo album were school idols, but failed miserably for whatever reason. Well, something along those lines anyway.

Despite my complaints, I do feel like Ren is far better constructed in this stage of her character arc than either of the previous "anti-school idol" characters were at their respective comparable points and I don't dislike her at all, whereas I was really not a fan of Eli or Dia at first and didn't really come to like them that much once they calmed down the school idol hate boner.

This episode makes me dislike Superstar even more. It all feels so slow, while just repeating SIP even harder than Sunshine did. We again have to save the school. We again have to fight the student council. But it takes soooo much time with Superstar. We are 7 episodes into a 12 episode season and we are still missing a member and we didn't even get too many songs so far.
It also looks worse than the other seasons. There were multiple moments in this episode alone, where they clearly used 3d CGI within normal scenes and it just didn't feel right.
And then the characters. Kanon is just like any Love Live lead so far (except Nijigasaki), just that she's kinda scared of singing. Sumire is just Niko, but not nearly as fun. Ren is just another student council president, but again, not nearly as interesting. Keke and Chisato are the most interesting.
Man... I just want Nijigasaki back and am happy that its getting a 2nd season.

Toxic comment incoming (Or already). Now they found the loophole in this chapter. LoL

Anyway, on the scene after the opening theme, I thought Ren's mother is Riko... that pink sunlight really got me there. (And why the sunlight color is pink, btw... :| )

And Ren is a bitch, still doesn't want to tell the real reason why she hates the school idol, even when Kanon approaches her in peace. but it's just the first chapter of Ren's Arc so wait for next week.

In the election scene... minus vote is sad. Are they didn't read the rules? Give some item(food) for a vote is count as a bribe... maybe. And the number of students in that school is 80 people? I thought the school is big... Oh, I forgot it's not that rainbow school. lol

And about visiting the ren house... that maid didn't report Kanon and friend to Ren? did she forgot them? Also, these series have another animal, the big dog... I still like the owl thou.

And about saving the school theme ... at least we have variation.

First, the chairman still working hard to keep the school running.
Second, the chairman doesn't care. Give the role to her daughter.
Third, The chairman care for her daughter, so she gives anything her daughter wants (buy expensive equipment, hire a pro dancer, make a club like a nightclub bar, etc).

And now, the chairman is gone (missing or passed away?). The daughter feels responsibility. But who is that current chairman? the school still save at least.
It a kinda unique. lol.

Oh, about music. Try watch NHK version. Until now, after ending there is a new song in each episode. its always mellow song thou....
Yay!

oop looks like we're getting another 'we need to save our school from closing down' plot. honestly had a laugh when i realized that was happening. feeling bad for ren though, i wonder what happened to her and her family. my guess is that the girls are gonna convince ren that they can save the school through school idols and then blah blah blah happy ending. not that i have a problem with that tho bc i love this franchise

Ren's mom is the school founder, or actually the one who reopen the school. And, her condition is probably death. It was not told directly in the series, but from those circumstances and dialogues, we can assume that she is already passed away.

The current chairman is Ren's mom's friend. They are friends when they were in school years, both of them are graduated from Yuigaoka as well. You can notice it when Kanon opened the photo album and saw Ren's mom, the current chairman, and three other friends were taken photos together.

Oh, about music. Try watch NHK version. Until now, after ending there is a new song in each episode. its always mellow song thou....

by the gods.... 2 season of save the school in the original, 2 season of save the school in Sunshine. Now, we have one more season of "save the school". I can't believe this is happening. Do they have no ideas left?!! Saved money... not buying figures from this Love Live. Well, but the show is still good even with the idea re-use.. so I will keep buy a few more Love Live Days magazines. :)

laughed at Sumire getting -20 votes... trying to bribe people with takoyaki did not work. xD

No, the reusing of the Love Live series signature is alright actually; school idol vs student council is actually Love Live icon so basically, this is how Love Live is remembered and known. But ...

I really complain about Hazuki Ren's backstory. This is, I think, the first time we get a darker story in Love Live series but can I just tell that this is the heavier-yet-not-make-me-have-a-kandou Love Live series I have watched?

Death and regret stories in idol & music animes aren't only owned by Love Live Superstar; we have also Zombieland Saga series and Idoly Pride too, but what if we included that story cliche to the series which is actually created only based on school life, and they almost forgot the thing that actually those 2 animes aren't really just selling that cliche but also selling something others inspiring and strong aspects for their animes and stories?

After all, this isn't Liella's fault, or Lantis and Sunrise's fault; something related to political-business actions is happening behind your show, I think.

Why is Sumire actually in this group again? I mean she never actually cared about being a school idol specifically, Kanon managed to convince her that the group could help her achieve her actual dream of being a star. When she tries to make a first step towards that this episode, 2 of the 3 members basically look at her like she's dirt and put zero effort into supporting her, even though Keke was the one wanting someone to run against Ren in the first place. Even Kanon seemed like she was only helping to get out of having to run herself.

Don't get me wrong, even if they'd have taken it seriously she'd still have got beat heavily, but they clearly have no belief in her so why's she even hanging around?

Not a fan at all of how Sumire was treated this episode from her friends, especially from Keke. In the earlier episodes the Keke/Sumire banter wasn't that bad to me but this ep Keke and even Chisato to an extent treated Sumire like complete garbage and weren't supportive of her. My least favorite episode so far, but I loved all the moments with Ren!

This episode was a disappointment compared to earlier ones.

The visuals didn't seem as good. It looked like the characters were drawn in a hurry in many scenes.

As another poster pointed out above, Sumire straight up got treated like garbage in this episode. I felt bad for her. Seriously, who the hell gave the ok to keep the belittlement of her in the episode script?

The show seems eager to return to the tired "we must save our school" plot for the millionth time. Let's hope that turns out NOT to be the case.

The attempts at humor all felt contrived and cringy to me.

While not a negative thing, Ren's mom looked a lot like Riko during that brief flashback. An Easter egg of some sort maybe.

The first two episodes of this latest installment of Love Live were great. I hope the remaining episodes will be at or near that level of quality.

I'm just glad they finally consider ren's existence, but I'm kinda mad that they decided to force all the info into one episode, so her backstory became "nothing", because people too fixated to the "saving school" reused plot or sumire getting mistreated things. If they waited 7 episodes to let her have screen time, they should at least make her the absolute main point in the story. Very disappointed, because she is my best girl, i've been waiting for it.

I'm just taking your quote because it's pretty much what everyone has been saying to some extent.

We all made the assumption that the reason Liella started was because the school was going to close. We know that's false. Nobody knew about any school or Ren's financial situation. The idol club was created with Keke wanted to be a school idol. The group was already getting noticed from last years Love Live winners as an up and coming group. So we can't pin the reason why they started was to "save the school".
Which one do you want? An Addiction or A Good Life?
A) Addiction - a progressive narrowing of the things that bring you pleasure.
B) A Good Life - a progressive expansion of the things that bring you pleasure and includes pleasure through motivation and hard work.

Reading your comment its totally true. Comparing with Honoka, Keke didn't started with the idea of School Idols with the idea about "saving school" But at this point I can predinct the rest of the episodes will be that plot and trying to win to have money.

At least Hazuki got a good reason for her strong feelings.

Stalking and Chibi chase scene were funny.

Why is everybody complaining about a "Saving the school" plot?
There are still options. Until now, we have
1 time saved the scool and won Love Live (μ's)
and we have 1 time (fail to save the school, but won Love Live)
There are still 2 options missing (save the school and don't win Love Live and don't save the school and don't win Love Live)

For me, I really like this episode. I start to like Ren and in this episode Keke is not too annoying.
