| It's supposed to be canon because the publisher says so but I dislike it so it's not part of my personal canon if that makes sense. Kinda like disney's star wars. |

| It doesn't matter who wrote it, the original creator of the story gets to decide whether something is officially canon to his work. Before bastardizing the character, Toriyama considered Bardock to be canon to Dragon Ball even though he didn't create the character. If Kishimoto looked at some random Naruto x Kiba fanfic and said it was canon, it'd be canon. Being a separately written story is not the same as not partaking in the same universe together. This isn't some subjective thought, this is actually how it works, we tuned into Kishimoto's story, and he gets to decide what happens in his story, regardless of whether he wrote it or not. Boruto is ass, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a direct and canon sequel to Naruto. |

| In my case it doesn't make much difference. If it is canon, will that in any way improve an aspect of the story we are already familiar with. It may, then again it may not. I look at a series on MAL and if it says sequel, I consider it canon. If it says anything else, then to me it isn't canon. I will stress this again however, whether it's canon or not, doesn't make it any better or worse. |
