| It's probably not the worst, but the one that comes to mind is Akira Takizawa from Higashi no Eden. I found his story to be so stupid and underwhelming, I already wasn't fond of the character but the reveal just made it worse instead of making me care about him. And I think that what made me all the more frustrated is that I could see the potential, but they decided to be lazy and do something dumb instead, while at the same time trying to make it look like it's deep. |

| Gentle Criminal and La Brava. The premise of their backstory on its own was fine, but the show tried to force its audience to empathize with them in such a heavy-handed way that it was unbearable to watch. |

Of course it's hard to showcase just how badly written and forced it was, but I will summarize it: So basically, just imagine an extremely edgy, cliche and forced backstory. Which can be passable for certain shows. But considering that her backstory is like a central and integral part of the show as a whole, it really just becomes laughably bad that it is what gets the least amount of effort put into it. |

| Not anime but its so bad it took the top spot in my mind, but a villain in Kamen rider zero one who created a Giant evil satelight that corrupts robots and turns them into killing machines, which was directly responsible for a massive massacre in the backstory. Yeah he ended up that way cause as a kid, his dad was really pushy that he needs to get 100% on everything and even 99% is a failure so they took away his robot dog he was fond of. So he decided he hates robots or some dumb shit like that to explain it away. Its such an awful, legitimately bottom of the barrel moment for a fairly good show, thankfully he was just a fake out main villain and a far more interesting pair take up the rest of the show. Its lessened a bit cause the show treats said character as a comic relief from there on out with everyone just sort of thinking hes a weirdo. |

In "The Severing Crime Edge", one girl gets a possessed murder weapon thing from her ancestor called the Pet Whip, and it's like a riding crop that she can hit people with so they turn into her slaves, and the reason she got it is because—I kid you NOT—she was upset that she wasn't picked to be the princess in her elementary school play. I am still laughing. The wiki is empty, so here's the description from TVtropes: "She didn't get the role of the princess in her school play (She says that her jealous classmates made sure to vote her out of it because they didn't like how close she was to a popular boy), so she didn't want to ever have to feel such loneliness and humiliation ever again." That whole show was a trainwreck, though sometimes an entertaining one. |
