Good episode, that focused on Akemi. It's always nice to have character development for the side characters, so maybe she won't be as annoying as I thought she was before. LOL.. that this episode had the first real kiss of the show, but they were both Akemi kissing Godai and Kyoko.

Good to see that Akemi is a mature smart woman who knows what she wants and doesn't take any shit from cheating pricks.

Don't talk to me about character development if Kaizuka Inaho or Slaine Troyard are in your favorites.

I believe this was kiss #2, the first kiss was in ep 24...

Regardless, you're right there hasn't been much kiss action thus far, and we're more than 1/3 through the series lol. This was a good ep though, always enjoy side character development.

Of all the annoying side characters, Akemi is by far my favorite.

I believe that kiss was in a dream sequence.

Throwing an episode at a side character (again) is fine, but I really dislike the way being kissed by a drunken Akemi sends Godai for such a tizzy for so long. It really makes him looks like a flake. He has plenty of flaws, but wavering on his affections for Kyoko haven't been among them, him lazily messing about with Kozue notwithstanding.

Man, that was a great episode. I especially liked the noir like atmosphere during Akemi's scenes. The only thing I didn't like was how easily Godai was willing to switch to Akemi, just because she kissed him while she was drunk. He's been getting more and more pathetic and spineless with every episode.

Who would've thought there'd be this hot yuri action.
The first kisses of the anime.
Wonder if Godai has kissed before.

Anyways, I always wanted a serious episode focusing on Akemi.

I really liked this ep it showed the less annoying side of Akemi... I like when Rumiko shows these sides of her characters but I wish she put more emphasis on them

I'm so glad Akemi decided to leave that guy hanging, he was a jerk!
I'm gonna defend Godai just this once because it looked like he was willing to go out with Akemi out of pity and not because he was truly interested in her, and also he's young, sometimes feelings waver when you're young.

Nice change of pace. Focusing on Akemi was like fresh air.

I loved jealous Kyoko xD

Akemi is a fun character and it was cool to see a different side to her.

Wow, hard to believe but an actual good episode? This is probably the most absorbing, well-paced and well-written episode so far. Holy shit no misunderstanding and melodrama?

Honestly this characterization episode is way more interesting than all that romance bull shit. I fucking hate overusing stupid misunderstanding so much. Hope to see more character development in future episodes.

I know Kyouko is considered the beautiful chick in the show but I honestly find Akemi to be far more attractive.

Nice episode dedicated to Akemi san, I liked the athmospere and the artsy bits, backdrops, music etc. it was a well paced episode. Akemi san can be annoying like the other tennants but this episode showed the mature side of her.

Another core memory for Godai san.

That bastard actually tried to show off the other girl to Akemi and dump her, what a cunt... But Akemi read him better and made the first move.

Ever since I read the manga episode of this anime episode - or what's related to it, I've wanted to share this. The light bulb fixing scene had more to it in the manga so, spoilers...
There's discussion about manga in later episode sub forums sooo... (delete if not ok)

Definitely one of the best episodes so far! Slower pace, serious (well, most of the time) and atmospheric, featuring some great cinematic shots - and Akemi was magnificent throughout. It also showed another side of relationships and provided some nice contrast to the more light-hearted (up until now) side of Kyoko's romances.

An Akemi episode! She's dating a guy named Hiroshi who hates large earrings. That's odd. But Akemi returns home drunk, breaks a light, and then proceeds to kiss both Godai and Kyoko. She doesn't remember it, but it's apparent that she was told what happened. There's a bit of a misunderstanding that Akemi may like Godai, but it's really only in Godai's head. She gave him her lighter, after all. Nothing comes of it. However, Yotsuya has dinner with Hiroshi and tries to get information out of him. Hiroshi eventually spends an hour outside Ikkoku-kan and Godai goes out to find out what's going on, learning it's Akemi's ex. Later, Hiroshi tries to convince Akemi to go on a trip with him, and she seems to possibly agree to meet him at the pier. She goes to the pier, but leaves and finds everyone at the Chacha-maru. Hiroshi went to the pier with his large earring date (who he seems to hate) and finds Akemi's lighter there. Everything is back to normal!

This was an odd episode. It was a change of pace, with everyone wondering what's going on with Akemi rather than always following Godai around and teasing him. It was a good change of pace, though.

About time Akemi got an episode focused on her, and it was a really good one! There were so many amazing looking background shots throughout, really added to the vibe they were trying to create with Akemi here, it’s just unfortunate for her that her man was pretty much an asshole. He left her for another woman, I guess he ended up not liking her and wanted Akemi back, and it’s understandable that Akemi would be conflicted here but she thankfully made the right choice in ditching that guy, a shame because it looks like they had something really good together before it was broke off at the start of the episode, but if he’s that quick to turn on a woman then it’s probably for the best that it ended.

The episode wasn’t completely serious tho, early on there was a scene where a drunk Akemi kisses not just Godai, but Kyoko as well, that’s something Godai will be thinking about later lol. It’s also interesting to hear how different this story was in the manga, I’d say this is an improved version, of course more Kyoko and Godai stuff is great but turning it into a story focused on Akemi was the right play imo, it made me appreciate her more as a character.

why an episode focused on akemi? i dont think any viewer gives two fucks about her. anyway i don't like her but her image improved by 1% in my mind after she decided not to go on that trip. in the first 12 episodes i hated both akemi and yotsuya a lot but gradually my hate is lessening.

sometimes i feel like they deliberately tease and hang out in godai's room so that he doesn't get consumed with sadness. they are always there to distract him but then most of the times it feels like they just exist to make his life hell. like my man can't even rub one out in peace without fearing yotsuya to crawl into his room anytime. or maybe i'm overthinking this and akemi and yotsuya are just some comic relief characters to tease godai and get funny reactions out of him.

godai's reaction to the kiss is childish and confusing to me. he gets flustered and acts like he is catching feelings with a random unserious drunk kiss from akemi but then there's kozue who is serious about him and they both have kissed with consent knowing kozue is ready to marry him and doesn't get a shred of feelings for her. bad writing doesn't even begin to describe it. like what's up with not dumping kozue already? the more he stalls it the more it's gonna hurt kozue.

in a sense both kyouko and godai are perfect for each other as they are both kind of piece of shits for leading people on, not giving clear concrete answers etc.. godai not breaking it up with kozue and even gaining XP with her family and kyouko here leading two men on and going on a date with godai when she thinks kozue is his gf like what kinda woman is she? if confronted her reply will obviously be that she thinks of godai as a friend and it was just an outing as friends.

this whole situation is so direspectful to kozue that it angers me. she's a completely normal girl in love and her man is acting to like her in the relationship, building fake bonds with her family all while her man knows he is never picking kozue over kyouko. the whole relationship of them is built like he just went along with whatever kozue said, she is also to be blamed here but not as much as godai. he never said no to anything kyouko said or did. he was shameless enough to kiss her in her own house after eating at her house with her family all while fully knowing she has no chance and kyouko is his end game.

im done with my rant and i try to keep all this outta my mind so that i can enjoy the show. but it helps to get this out.

and man if akemi ends up catching feelings for godai after all she's said and done to him in this episode and all the previous then i swear my respect for her will be equal to my respect for a dumpster in a back alley. idk i just hate her so much. if she gets redeemed somehow in future i will really like it though. it should be really well-written and convincing so maybe i'm asking too much.
