This was the lesbian witch anime I needed this season. Also to all the "Why did Elaina help this time?" people...did yall just like miss the episode with the King's Daughter trapped in the castle who had to kill that weird beast thing? She literally wanted to help the witch but didn't. Or the episode with the slave girl?? It was the first time we saw Elaina want to help someone and not just be a bystander. Elaina *does* want to help people, but the show has already established that sometimes she just *can't* and that other times it's far better for her to just *not*. Also, these stories are months apart?? Did yall miss that part too?? Come on now, you guys have to pay attention lol. It's obvious Elaina changes as a person with each episode having learned lessons from the countries she visits. There are no plot holes here, some of you just literally haven't been paying attention and it shows. |

I know it's not related to the episode, but there's nowhere else to rant about it, but Damn it WTF they're already onto Volume 3 next episode?! So y'all just gonna skip over Volume 2?! And skip over the best story in "Before the Snow Melts?!" We just get one episode of volume 2?! Unless they go back of course, but I'm pretty sure they ain't coming back. They ain't coming back. Never hated a character so much So she couldn´t help a little girl who was being abused by a fat bastard, but she could hit a freaking King in the back to change something that King decided by himself for his country? Maybe I´m wrong, but I don´t remember any of those 2 asking her for help, she just went with the flow She easily could take the girl to her town or another country to search for someone who could take care of her, even the witch in this city could take her as her assistant or maid or something, but no, they needed to add some dark stuff for no reason and no logic I hoped the mc could make me change my mind about the show, it ended well tho, dropping this sh*t who shouldn´t even be compared to Kino |

The situation in this particular country is quite different to that of the townchief and his personal slave. For starters Heihemia had sent a letter to the mage society asking for help to undo her work that causes grief to the population and also deprived her of her magic and her own voice. The mage society agreed and sent Saya as a "problem solver" recognizing this situation as one for them mages to take control. Now lets go back to the dilemma of the slave girl in a faraway village. Most likely this small country has it's own laws regarding owning a slave wich are not frown upon, and also most likely it either has strong connections with a bigger country providing protection from anti slavery countries or it's just a backwater region nobody has ever heard of. Regardless, nobody sent a letter begging for help to either the mage society or other countries that would overrule their slavery customs. You're totally expecting a single traveler like Elaina to get her hands dirty and face charges like "stolen propierty" and/or Assault & Battery towards the town chief. Now going back again to the country that cannot lie, Elaina wasn't asked for help, but it's obvious for her to understand the task ahead was too much for a freshly graduate like Saya, and they obviously have the support of the mage society, so it's natural for her to lend a helping hand. Regarding that Nino's story (the slave girl) was made for no reason nor logic, there lies your poorly vision. The moral of the story is that in reality you cannot save everyone even if you're willing to become part of a bigger conflict and there's nothing wrong by accepting this harsh reality. This also goes for @hazarddex rant expecting Elaina to act as a Vigilante in episode 3, but ignoring that the whole mage society didn't aprove this King's bidding, wich allows Elaina to act under the mage society mantle. I also challenge you hazzarddex prove that Elaina is a narcissist, since nobody has been able to prove it, they just parrot ignorance spread by other parrots. |

@Kimurah first this is a shonen anime. there are tons of dark shonen anime i find it funny that you think "shonen anime." is some how an insult it sounds like you have a personal issue. Please explain to me how a king doesn't have a single powerful witch or spellcaster in his entire army? in a magic setting did you actually read my post? the problem here is an issue of logistics no king worth his salt in a fantasy setting would some how not expect witches or other spell-casters to try and disrupt his rule. mage society. You expect me to believe that the entire world is over saw by this mage society? does everyone who owns a gun answer to the government? we have plenty of black market mercs to prove the problem with that logic. obsesses over how beautiful she is. demands people to praise her more. literally writes down that she doesn't have a twisted personality. getting salty when flan tells her that her talent isn't everything. |

Lol @hazarddex going at it again, screaming inconsistency and trying to "rub it in people's faces". So far there is no demonstrated inconsistency with her actions. Give it up. It's blatantly obvious why, unless you weren't paying attention to detail at all in the story. hazarddex said: as a king in a fantasy setting you would think he would have a loyal group of spell casters to protect himself wouldn't you? There are multiple possible reasons why, including, but not limited to:
At this point you're just trying to come up with excuses to hate this story. |

Sure, replace "witch" with "spell caster" and "army" with a "few". There is no difference in the points I am making. hazarddex said: hate story =/= pointing out world building flaws Lack of information to make a rational judgement call is not a world building flaw. hazarddex said: this story is far from the flawless masterpiece a lot of the fanboys try to make it out to be. Nobody is saying this anime is a flawless masterpiece. However none of the critiques against this show presented so far have been logical, save for one (that the flower story was rather rushed). |

I have a slight suspicion that there is something suspicious in the necklace that saya gave to Elaina, I just hope it's not bad and I'm wrong I liked this ep, and I understand Elaina helping this time, after all, there was a greater force behind allowing someone to intervene, after all that was why Saya was there, so she would go one way or another even if Elaina did not participate, I understand that as a traveler, elaina more observes and reacts than she does something, but in this case i think she was curious (either because she can give a good story or because she was interested in what happened and wanted to know more, the witch who lost the voice may have attracted your interest and curiosity) |

I like how in the first episode of the series she's basically crying because none of the witches would help her, and then she cries AGAIN because someone was literally taking advantage of her. Two episodes after she's basically turned into just one of them. Now here in this episode she acts completely out of character and helps people just cuz. Make up your mind about this character. |

This was an almost perfect episode. A nice and entertaining story, meeting again Saya, having a great development, nicely animated and made battle, and a nice happy ending, rounding up every character in this episode with a nice story and feeling. The only bad thing? If she got in a fight with the king, that means the argument of "not putting herself in danger" got destroyed. So... her Episode 3 excuse was not true? Also she broke her mother´s promise... Still as I said, a great chapter, completely 5/5 and loving to see Elaina becoming every episode a better character |

Never thought but Saya is really amazing now, glad that she was able to become a witch, this episode was probably the happiest we had so far! Kinda sad that she's leaving again, Saya was so happy to see her lmao xD Pure face of joy haha I do hope we get to see hear again. I mean, this time she went out of money because she wanted to buy that thing, so that's why she met her again so xD Btw at the end, there were 3 witches, they could have cast that spell again without losing anything, but it's for the better. |

hazarddex said: first this is a shonen anime. there are tons of dark shonen anime i find it funny that you think "shonen anime." is some how an insult it sounds like you have a personal issue. No it's not shonen, we've been thru this several times with your baseless argument. The anime is an adaptation of the Light Novel, wich is the source. Just because the manga was produced in a shonen publisher, doesn't mkake the anime adaptation that takes after the light novel, in the shonen demographic. Also, shonen is most of the time very watered down and cheap so that "kiddies" wich is the main demographic don't get too conflicted, even using dark themes that are most of the time just superficial. Just for the record, I'm not saying that Light Novels are dark/thought provoking or controversial most of the time. hazarddex said: Please explain to me how a king doesn't have a single powerful witch or spellcaster in his entire army? in a magic setting did you actually read my post? Because the king was an idiot. You could easily tell this by expecting that an utopia where people wouldn't lie would be a flawless place to live. Elaina herself even blurts this out so that the thickheaded king realizes how dumb he was. hazarddex said: the problem here is an issue of logistics no king worth his salt in a fantasy setting would some how not expect witches or other spell-casters to try and disrupt his rule. mage society. You expect me to believe that the entire world is over saw by this mage society? Based that mages are the most powerful beings in this world so far, it wouldn't be a surprise that they either oversee all territorial issues or are part of a bigger congress formed by humans and mages and most likely other orders like knights. Take for instance the whole world of Harry Potter being overseen by mages, but obviously being conceited all the time. All this is a possibility none the less hazarddex said: does everyone who owns a gun answer to the government? we have plenty of black market mercs to prove the problem with that logic. I don't understand your point, anyone with a gun obviously has to answer to whatever goverment they belong to. In the case of mages, I want to believe that there's at the very least a code of honor in order to keep the status quo and in the worst cases of a rogue mage there should be a justice corp like anti-mages to hunt down vicious mages. hazarddex said: obsesses over how beautiful she is. demands people to praise her more. literally writes down that she doesn't have a twisted personality. getting salty when flan tells her that her talent isn't everything. Another point that has nothing to do with the actual conversation, This feels more like a petty complain from a kid who hates his peers for having a different personality. There's nothing wrong with Elaina having a healthy self steem and calling herself beautiful. It's a breath of fresh air from emo kids in shonen that start with little to no self steem and the whole series is about him or her becoming more self confident. Secondly, I never seen Elaina "demand" other people to praiser her. Please present actual evidence on any of the episodes already aired. Third. What's wrong with writing down she doesn't have a twisted personality? Again, just pure pointless salt from your behalf. Fourth. Elaina was still a kid in growth, of course she's going to make a salty reply (pretty much like yours), the whole point of that was to make her more humble and not to abuse of her powers, all this is part of growing up, a lot of teens rebel against their parents or tutors until they finally grasp how society works and how to fit in. She's obviously not humble in the current present, but that's not bad, she has used her powers wisely when she has needed it, with the exception in the last episode with the grape tossing, but it was completely harmless. |

Another really solid episode. Im happy to see the series hasnt forgotten how to be enjoyable and chill. I love that side girl. Her absolute love for Elaina is cute. It hits my yuri craving lol. But that last scene was sketchy as hell. The face she made when putting that necklace on was like she put some sort of spell on the necklace and was secretly planning something. It was fishy as hell. Im glad that side girl is a reoccuring character and I hope we see her again. (Cause she's on the cover so I'd imagine she's gonna pop up a lot.) |

The idea of a kingdom where you can't lie is really good tbh. Btw. I don't why a lot of people are calling Elaina "narcissistic" like it's a bad thing. I have absolutely enough of these "UwU I'm soo shy and a wallflower and a doormat"-female protagonists, not only in anime, but in a lot of media. I think it stems from our society (in western world but also in Japan), where women have to surpress their pride of their appearance and sexuality and should be "humble" about it. It's a really, REALLY nice change, when a female protagonists actually thinks of herself as beautiful and everything else would be a lie to her haha It's not only in anime, but I remember this shitty high school-movies, where the wallflower is the good and nice girl and the beautiful and popular girls were mean. It's the same in a lot of shoujo anime unfortunately. I'm really glad that I finally found a female protagonist again, who takes so much pride in herself and isn't a shy wallflower lol |

I think it's refreshing to see a female protagonist with high self esteem, who knows how skilled she is. I think a lot of complaints about her actions not being in character are totally unfounded and based more on what these people would like Elaina to be like, rather than what she is. She's not the type of MC to put her life on the line for someone she's spent 5 minutes talking to, or jump into battle without regard for her own safety. I liked seeing Saya more competent but I can't say I like her pushiness or the yuri bait. The sequence with her fawning over a deadpan Elaina was hilarious, though. |

I really don't like Elaina, and I do not like the way the writers of the series view her. What really set me off about this episode was simply the fact of how she wrote "I have a pure heart" instead of "I have a twisted personality". Like throughout the series so far, I have not seen many redeeming qualities about Elaina, seeing as she mostly refuses to actually be a hero and help people who are actually in need. I guess the only exception to her piss poor personality is the fact that she is strong willed, but that does not make you have a "pure heart". Another odd thing about this episode is the fact that Elaina has stayed neutral in a variety of smaller issues, but decides she needs to play politics in a situation that was extremely dire for this episode. This is really unfortunate for me, since I actually like the show's worldbuilding and whatnot, I just haven't found the characters or their purpose rather likeable in any way. |

Saya's Interests on Elaina is always a charm Haha especially on this episode. Elaina has that confidence all of us want lol. This and last episode were both wholesome , I can't shake the feeling it's in preparation for something really dark hm... Overall , Straightforward and Nice episode , the sequence of Elaina Disarming the King was nicely done . "Also , Liars are not necessarily. Good lies can sometimes be like lubricant, smoothing the relationships between people." Good quote OwO, Lying isn't always bad depending on how you handle them. |

It's only episode 6 and the anime already destroyed its own foundation and turned into casual shit. Elaina turned from true neutral into moralist that suddenly cares about others. Saya's totally gay for Elaina and it's all her character is about. More cliche anime comedy pervy jokes and cliche speeches. Why do you have to ruin one of the rare series that was already good and original... It's now a f***ing lighthearted comedy with few dark moments??? |

I can just hope it goes back to being dark and realistic fairytale and not continues as slice-of-life comedy for teenagers. I feel a strong urge to drop it right now...after 2 last episodes I don't see any potential to be honest ... |
