How many bullets and stab wounds has Law taken in this fight yet the dude is still alive lol. Not to mention the amount of blood loss. I know it's a shounen but dam Oda, by constantly pulling stuff like this you're making dire situations have less of an impact on people.

This is the first time since coming to the New World that Luffy's been in such a bad situation...not only is Law bleeding out on the floor, but Doffy outclasses Luffy in almost every area of combat. Then there's Trebol to contend with as well the birdcage slowly shrinking. :/

We've seen Luffy fight a lot of enemies, but with how this episode went, I think this one is easily going to be my favorite fight of his!

Love when Doffy has those moments of pure rage where that smirk just drops off his face and he goes batshit. Thank god he didn't have any bullets left.

Now if Luffy can just listen to Law he should be okay...although I guess that's asking a lot lol

As much as I like the fact that nobody dies in One Piece unless it's a flashback or a huge change of course, Law should have died. I think, there hasn't been a single moment in OP where they played with death so much; the fact that Law is still alive (and it's not like his first near-death moment with Doflamingo) just makes Doffy look like an idiot.
Especially it's important since this story arc is probably the first huge one after Marineford and time-skip. Again, I am happy that nobody dies in OP, but this time they made a mistake. If you don't kill someone off - don't hype it up so much.

Also a small nitpick, but I think the scene with Doffy shooting Law and running out of bullets would have been perfect if Doflamingo would throw that gun at Law when he ran out of bullets instead of just keeping it. The scene was near-perfect, anyways.

I’ve been reading through One Piece recently and getting my way through Alabasta for the 2nd time is pretty interesting as it does parallel Dressrosa in many ways. Outside of the fact that Alabasta is about stopping the country from falling into chaos and Dressrosa is a fate where Doflamingo already succeeded where Crocodile failed, my favorite is that Crocodile and Doffy’s crime families and philosophies couldn’t be any more different. Baroque Works was an organization where the motto was mystery, literally. No one knew Crocodile was the boss until it was absolutely necessary, everyone was a secret agent who worked off anonymous orders. Further, this philosophy is extreme, the Baroque Works were not a family by any means, Crocodile specifically mocks the idea of trusting people and has no concept of forgiveness. When Mr.3 failed his mission, Crocodile tried to murder him. His failed mission was to kill the people who knew Crocodile’s identity and there was still much room to stop them from interfering with his plan. It was a ruthless decision. Overall he ruled with intimidation and an iron fist.

Meanwhile, the Don Quixote family is treated as such, a family. When Trebol and Diamante fail in a way that throws the entire kingdom and 10 years of work down the drain, rather than punishing or killing them like Crocodile would for far more menial failures, Doflamingo forgave them as if it were nothing. I have felt Crocodile was always a man that was trying to prove himself at all costs, forcing people to submit. He reminds me of Zoro’s work ethic and ambition paired with a crippling sense of inferiority that he is fighting off like the legendary Dio Brando. That is to say, I think his mission was always about him. Meanwhile, Doflamingo’s sadness and anger, his ambition to destroy the world and take revenge on the Dragons who threw him out, that overpowers the life of his family as, if it suits that ambition, he will ask them to die. However, I think his family is his 2nd highest priority. It gets messy due to the seeming contradiction of these two goals, but he has the power to rule in the way Crocodile did and he rejects that, a man as angry and powerful as him holds his tongue when his family members step on his toes. At least until they betray him, which the ghost of Corazon standing before him may represent two times over, the family which rejected the heart seat. It’s somewhat paradoxical to make this example but Doflamingo may be what Luffy could be if he prioritized his ambition over his nakama, that said; it’s a paradox because a crucial component to what it means to be the pirate king for Luffy is the freedom to protect his friends. To hurt them to become it would go against his everything.

There are still certainly questions to ask, I’m fascinated by Doffy’s language of forgiving the traitors with their death and I’m curious if closing the bird cage will kill his family. Overall, I think Doflamingo is the most evil villain who held the role as a major antagonist of an arc which I actually root for. It’s not like I want Luffy to lose, but I enjoy seeing Doflamingo succeed as much as I love seeing the good guys succeed. Whereas I came around to being a huge fan of Arlong and Crocodile, as for Doflamingo; I’ve liked seeing him from the get go! His care for his family, his ruthless but calculated and manipulative methods, his complex relationship with his family and his past. Somehow, I don’t hate him at all. In his worst moments I definitely do, like the tragedy of Dressrosa, but that stuff fades and then I begin to like him in the present again.

I feel pretty dumb for only just recently realizing why Law commented about the lead bullets that Doflamingo shot him with. Now that I think about it, Doffy's pretty damn hypocritical to shoot someone to death because they had the title of one of his Family's top executive seats as a part of their outfit since he went out of his way to use lead bullets for Law specifically just so he can taunt to him about his past.

It was rather interesting to see Luffy imitate one of Bellamy's moves as tribute to him. It was also good to see that Law's alive after all. The birdcage is finally closing in so they'll have to defeat the enemy quickly!

I liked it, but the television format and the way of adapting the script made to be seen on television is tired.

A problem with One Piece is that there is a lot of fake deaths.

it felt like law would have flipped doflamingo off when he was antagonising him, i’m sure there is some censorship fuckery abound as always
doflamingo shooting blanks after emptying those bullets into law, what a child
and that birdcage is the stuff of nightmares
doffy, i must reiterate, you are a fucking freak
let’s go, law! let’s go, luffy!

Getting selective with Viola's ability. She should've clearly been able to see that Law wasn't actually dead. Unless it was one of those cases where at the time he was medically dead as he was holding on for the moment to speak to Luffy. While it would've been different and pretty shocking, One Piece has shown that very few characters actually die. If Law was going to be killed off, it would've been on the same spectacular level as Ace or Whitebeard.

Even though it demonstrated that it made his power pretty much redundant, it was touching to see Luffy so soon copy Bellamy's Spring Hopper as his own Spring Bullet. He may have every right to be confident, but Doflamingo is going to regret laughing at taunting 'the beast'. He may go all out without much thinking more than usual, but those moments are when Luffy is ironically the most tactical and the unexpected Spring Bullet catching Doflamingo enough to double his defence showed that.

The classic shounen clock has started ticking. Even though it's going to be a less ridiculous '5 minutes' dragged over many episodes, considering the sheer size of Dressrosa and how many episodes it's likely to go over, 1 hours still seems too short. Another hour or 2 would be more reasonable. Athough with that said...how is Doflamingo going to make sure all his enemies get cut up while his 'family' remains unharmed?

Law speaking again was little surprising. I didn’t expect him dead but I thought the princess would heal him. I am curious on how Luffy beats mingo. I really feal like Sabo going to offer him a major assist or save the day. More than just beating trumble. Because the only hit he gotten on mingo was the cool team up hit with law. Curious to see how this ends
