The recap made me realize Franky probably asked Brook what the promise he made to his deceased crew was. It must be something truly admirable!
We had an interesting piece of dialogue. The shadow who is in Cindry's body was probably one of the first zombies made because Hogback mentioned they didn't make her shadow pledge to forget everything first. Perhaps upon creating a disobedient zombie in Cindry, Hogback and Moria realized they needed to completely wipe the memories(obviously hatred of plates isn't an innate trait to one's character).
When Oars woke up with Luffy's soul and it's first words mentioned meat and Sanji I knew my and many others predictions were so right. Luffy's almost defined by his love of food, adventure, and his nakama. So, to have the zombies first words mention two of those things means Moria is going to have a very hard time controlling him. I do have to admit this scene went on SO LONG though, jeez.
Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji don't know anything about the marios and the shadow stealing apart from the fact that they got their shadows stolen. Robin and Franky learned everything from Brook. This makes Chopper slowly learning about what Hogback's done through Cindry's room and seeing the whole process quite meaningful. It was important for Chopper to see everything for himself, or else he wouldn't believe it. When he was finally forced to confront what Hogback's done, seeing that Hogback was an idol of his, he was filled with disgust and anger in a way we hardly ever if not ever have seen before. I hope Chopper gets to fight Hogback. That said, his love for Cindry with his stalker Cindry room makes me think in the end he's going to be sympathetic.
I was thinking about Thriller Bark and the general zombies and such. Those general zombies shadows mean that the warriors who are in their bodies are alive and shadowless out there. It also means that they aren't the ancient warriors themselves but good warriors put inside the bodies of ancient warriors. Right? It's somewhat confusing. What's also fascinating is the old shadowless men of the island that we've seen, one of which asked Luffy for help, must be pirates who were caught and had their shadows taken but ended up not being tossed out of the island, they are probably in hiding. I bet some of the basic zombies are most likely the shadows of some of the old dudes who asked for help.
My personal favorite scene though was when Absalom set both Usopp and Chopper on fire. The way the music cut and the way the scene was drawn were really special and intense. Absalom's power is still super confusing but I suppose by the time we see a fight with him it will all make sense. The thing I loved most was how Usopp had no hesitation at all. He stood. He pulled his Kabuto out in pieces(showing how he keeps it on him at all times), put it together, and dropped a line about as cool as it was similar to the one Ace dropped in the Black Beard fight!
And like everyone else, I adored the line from Franky, "You'd better get your hands off my sworn little brothers, punks"! I had to watch it a few times. Franky is a man all about family. Perhaps the Straw Hats are already becoming additions to the Franky family, hmm. Chopper's already accepted it! "ANIKI!!!" The way he grabbed zombies by the throat and dropped salt into their mouths forcefully was so Franky and I loved how brutal it was. A user @marywhistley brought up the comparison of Robin and Franky as parents to the Straw Hats and... that is the perfect way to explain why their relationship is so fun to watch!!!
I wrote way more than I would have expected to write for this episode...
Ninah said:honestly, nami, usopp and chopper are really grating on my nerves. i did not see all three of them grow in strength and kick marine ass only to bawl and wail all over my screen for like 7 episodes straight. after everything they've been through, usopp and nami take out their weapon like twice and chopper doesn't transform and fight.
This is an interesting post so I hope you don't mind the quote as this is a reply to a post made in 2012.
Chopper is strong but his character flaw is lack of confidence in himself. Up until this point in the series, he never believes he can keep up with the crew. From the beginning, it's been this way. Despite being one of the most capable members he gets nervous, scared, and admires the "fighters" of the crew not even characterizing himself as one. All of his fights have been when he was pushed to the limit for his friends or values or when he was forced to fight. In Skypiea he tried so hard to protect their ship from the fire because it was his job and his time to prove he could keep up with the crew and give back to them. When he fought Kumadori he was in a position where he had to fight with his life on the line to save Robin and in turn too save himself.
Usopp too isn't unlike this. He is inherently cowardly and avoidant of confrontation and it is only when his ideal and dream of being a brave warrior are put on the line where he stands up for what he believes in. We saw a case in this very episode as I mentioned above. Unless he's put in a test of his brave warrior dream his first instinct is to avoid combat.
Further, Nami only really fights when she's emotional and angry and she has to, other than those moments she avoids all combat and this makes her the most pacifistic of the crew. For these reasons, I see what the coward trio has done as completely fine. |
