I keep saying and I repeat it: Ishigami best character in the series and immediately after Miyuki.

Yuu how much courage did you have? To undergo all that without being able to say anything for a person recently knew, that altruism, that strength of mind. Luckily you found a person like Miyuki who pushed you to go back to normal slowly.

Best episode of the two series, when there is Ishigami in the middle, the show never disappoints.

I have a question: what was kaguya's role exactly? Was Ogino in the same school and she sent him away? Ootomo knows the truth about what happened?(it seems no and it bothers me that she doesn't know what Ishigami has done for her).

I haven't read the manga, but from what I've heard: Yes, she is involved in Ogino's transferring of schools (I think she brought it up to the school or something? A manga reader probably knows better than I).
And no, Otomo doesn't know the truth about what really happened (hence why that segment of the episode was something like "Kyoko Otomo Doesn't Understand").

Based on some previous comments from manga readers, it seems that Kaguya has told everything about the Ishigami case to some people in the school, who are not scared of doing bad things to others.

Basically, these people would probably bully Ogino to the point he was forced to transfer to another school, to live a peaceful life (again).

Also, Ootomo knows nothing. All she knows is that Ishigami beat up her beloved and "innocent" boyfriend for whatever reason.

In episode 8 of season 01 Kaguya talks with Key about a student that was sent away from Japan with his family by the VIPs, I think that this student is Ogino, as she seems to have a lot of pleasure wondering if he is suffering.

Ishigami sees everyone's' eyes after realizing he was more accepted now towards the end of the episode. It seemed like everyone not having eyes was supposed to represent how he felt closed off from everyone else, like how in A Silent Voice the main character sees everyone with x's over their faces to represent his social anxiety.

Damn this episode was amazing. When I started this season I wasn't expecting to see better drama than "I can't see the fireworks" from season 1, and especially not from Ishigami, who I saw as just a really funny otaku character. But this episode has NO JOKES and just focuses on Ishigami's story with many powerful moments reminding me of A Silent Voice. He really is best girl

This is probably my favourite episode out of both seasons of Kaguya.
I always viewed this show as a surface level comedy/romance anime, that rarely, if ever, went into any depth in terms of serious conflict or problems.

This episode about Ishigami is exactly what I wanted out of the story.
My one caveat for this episode, is that nothing else happened to Ogino in terms of justice.

Ishigami has cemented himself as my favourite character now!
If more of this continues, I'll be content.

Not really. He is done and dealt with. He is not even in Japan let alone Shuchiin. The Shuchiin VIPs dealt with him. That's the part we all manga readers have been talking about that got truncated because Kaguya played a major role there.

WOW! What an episode! This was definitely one of the best episodes so far. Now it all makes sense, why Ishigami was like that, and the whole thing with him opening his eyes was really well done.

Shirogane is the true bro! He with the council found the truth before anybody else, so they knew... I just wish that girl that Ishigami tried to protect, knew what really happened. As Kaguya said, "That smile of hers is what Ishigami tried to protect".
But to be honest i feel like Ishigami got the guts together and explained the whole story, maybe nothing of this would have happened. It was impossible for anyone to know what really happened since he never told his story, so i believe that it was partially his fault. Nonetheless, it was fantastic episode!

So Kaguya is the one who helped with that guy's transfer, the mastermind xD

Now it makes sense why Ishigami saw everyone's faces like that...
What a moment! Ishigami is truly the GOAT!

I'm glad to see more episodes like this, that aren't focused on the main love couple.

Damn, watching that episode was exhausting.
I wanted to hang myself for the first 15 minutes.. not a fan.

Worst episode for me, by a landslide. :/ In fact I would have rather skipped watching this.
Kinda surprised everyone but me seems to love it.

Adding eyes to the cheerleading mates when he opened his eyes was a nice touch, though.

What an amazing episode, is gorgeos how a comedy show can be that deep and beutiful, just like the last episodes of the first season.

I like the new direction of Ishigami, the depressive sadboy stereotype is one of my favourites in anime.
Also, I would like to see a romance between Iino and Ishigami in the future *v*

Ma boi needs loves and Miko is the perfect girl for him. She helps him by talking to teacher that he has done all his homework and dont deserve to be treated this way. The headmaster overheard and causing ishigami able to moved to high school. ishigami also has been protecting iino in middle school.

It may seems that they hated and fight a lot each other but both have been protecting each other without the other noticing. And I thinks both of them so cute to be together

Sorry to be a wet blanket but contrary to everyone here, this episode's drama didn't do much to me. It's out of character for the show and ngl, I was expecting some kinda punchline like that Otomo girl's actually in love with Ishigami and will confess him at the end or something.

At first, I thought Otomo's "you don't deserve to be happy" shit at sports festival was some kind of delusion Ishigami's having due to his guilt. But it's confirmed at the last minute that it really happened and I was like "For real?" I mean, it's so cringy. I know she's misunderstanding Ishigami and hates him but who'd come all the way to another school's festival just to shit on the guy who punched her broke-up boyfriend? That act lost all of her credibility for me to sympathize with her. I just wish Kaguya tells her the truth at this point. "Go to hell, dumbass" alone is nowhere nearly enough and that smile isn't worth protecting.

I've been seeing a lot of manga reader alluding to this. As much as Aka is great at callback for a lot of stuff, I don't think this one is right. In the anime Kei call the student "a student council president who transfered to the school" while the manga she says "a president who entered the school from outside".

In the anime version, I don't think it was ever mentionned that Ogino was the student council president so it doesn't check. I also don't think you "transfer" into the high school division from the middle school one though(how did Ootomo fail to get in??). In the manga version, he was indeed the drama club president but I think the term "entering the school from outside" only apply to "impure" people like Shirogane who wasn't from Shuuchin middle school. So it doesn't seem right.

It might perhaps be too general in Japanese to know for sure but from the 2 translation I don't think it is him.

The reason she went to that school was to see her ex-bf, Ogino. She said that she wanted to get back with Ogino but she didnt know that Ogino already transferred schools. Rewatch the episode, looks like you didnt get it.

Yeah, I found the part I missed you said at near the end but that didn't change the fact she screamed on top of her lungs "I hold a grudge for a long time! How dare you enjoy yourself?" to a particular guy among many groups of people. Even if I consider from her perspective as Ishigami as a scumbag, that's still a dick move imo. The offender got suspended, forced to apologize, shunned by student body and got what he deserved. The rest were all up to herself and her ex-bf. What does she still want more? For Ishigami to commit suicide?

10/10!!!

i super love this episode, as an anime only i feel sad for Ishigami's past, i mean he did that to the girl he like only to be ended as the ultimate bad guy... he got humiliated by his classmates (former) because of that incident... even his parents are upset about him..

but well thanks to Shirogane, he helped Ishigami a lot to recover and thus having a new life... a must watch episode...

Really can relate to Ishigami's dilemma of doing the "right" thing, protecting Otomo even if she would still view him negatively vs. revealing everything. Honestly, I still think there's value in revealing the truth so that Ogino doesn't take any more victims; plus Ishigami would finally be understood by Otomo.

It makes you think about the people in your lives who are usually looked down upon by others, but could just be misunderstood.

I think that everybody already knew that Ishigami wasn't a bad character and he was saving that stupid girl. She knew that Ishigami wouldn't start a fight without reason. She could just ask him why did he do what he did.
Leaving that aside, I'm still hoping that the last episode is going to be a beach episode (¬‿¬)

Kaguya isn't my AOTY right at the moment, but people who won't shut up about Attack on Titan need to chill. I've only seen the first two seasons of it and imo it's the most overrated anime of all time.

I will be watching the rest of it, but geez guys. Not everyone loves anime clearly created for shounen audiences.

To me this was the best episode of anime I have seen all this year, in close comparison to 22/7's Jun-chan episode.

While I still will be waiting on the final episode for this one before granting it AOTY so far, I'd say it is 100% in the running. The only other show I enjoyed as much this year has been OshiBudo.

Now that i think about it, this might be the worst episode in the series by far, because it makes alot of previous jokes to make no sense. For example, the jokes about how Chika and Kaguya treat him.
If they knew of his sacrifice, they should have had some respect for the guy right? Especially Chika who is the *Love Detective*.....

Anyway, from now on i will treat his backstory as a plothole cus it creates problems.

Those are Kaguya and Fujiwara's way of showing they accept him for who he is. When push comes to shove, they will always look after him. Just like Kaguya teaching him before the exams, or Fujiwara getting within the boo-girls and rooting for him (not animated). Just look at her expression when she held back Iino:

The thing that is yet to be revealed is:

Fujiwara treats Ishii like she does because he has a sharp tongue. While others give her a pass for her obnoxious personality, he doesn't.

This includes Iino as well. Not once she has belittled him based on general perception without hearing his side of the story. That's why she has continued to defend him behind his back.

They have their way of showing affection/concern for him. Their interactions keep Ishii in check and deep down he probably feels attachment of some sort with these girls when everyone else treats him like he doesn't even exist.

From Aka Akasaka's Interview
Q:So you're always thinking about the balance between comedy and drama?
A:“I Can't Hear the Fireworks” was the first chapter that had multiple parts, and it was surprisingly well received. It felt like the readers gave me permission to write a long story arc once in a while.
On the other hand, while the chapters about Ishigami's past gave rise to some diehard Ishigami fans, there were also people who didn't want that sort of heavy content in Kaguya-sama. I'd still like to write those kinds of stories going forward though, finding ways to keep a better balance between the funny and the serious.
