| Nobody wants to see the 3D. The 2D world is vastly superior, so it's better to use pretty pictures of beloved characters than greatly inferior images of the 3D people behind the keyboard. I've never understood why people want to use real images of themselves. On Facebook, maybe, but not on a visual media forum like this is, when there are so many better options. But whatever floats your boat, I suppose. |

| Once you post up your real pics, they could be used for other purposes by people with negative goals. Pictures these days can be edited and modified to look like something else to frame you etc, by using stuff like Gimp or Photoshop so who the hell in their right minds would post up their real pics (some do though). Also, not everyone is confident of the way they look and some don't post real pix for privacy and cuz they wanna remain anon. |

| i used to have my actual picture up back in the day. and then i got creepy comments. so i took it off. the creep factor on MAL is too high for actual pictures of oneself. besides, most of the "anime" world is known for their not-so-awesome looks. <- so i don't want to see it. keep using anime avatars, boys & girls. |

| For me it all comes down to privacy. I use to post my real picture on many sites I was on, but now I stopped that. The internet can be a very dangerous place. Well maybe not an actual place but...you know what I mean! |

| ive wondered the same thing before. its cool to see different peoples opinions on why though. i used to have a picture of myself as my avatar and profile pic buti changed it to the current picture you see as a little joke. im thinking ill change it back once the site allows me though. as for the question, some people just like the anime avatars better, for whatever reason. sometimes the obscure avatars express more about who you are than a picture of you can. |
