Hey there! I'm quite new to mangas, i only check for latest updates on local manga sites randomly. But, i'm curious, is there any manga that is underrated/unpopular even though it is actually good? This is actually inspired by Anime that deserves more attention thread. Any recommendation is fine, just show me your list of manga you wished people talked more about.

Sorry if my english is bad :(

I didn't think of the numbers, but i actually intend to look for something from few thousands members, at least somewhere below 12,000.

Also, is coppelion manga better than the anime?

Well, I didn't like how the anime handled the artstyle.
The characters just seem out of place with the thick outlines, flat colours paired with the picturesque background

I wouldn’t say unread but the manga I personally think is a 10/10 without much people talking about it is Act-Age. In my opinion it is the best Shounen Jump series

I've read yankee go to juku and wolfsmund. Both were great.

Yankee go to juku is fun to read. The art might be a little strange but as i stick to the story, it's good. I can't seem to find the last three chapters online, do you know where to read it?

Wolfsmund is a good historical manga. I'd like to read more of these kind of manga. Since, the only historical manga i've read other than this one is Vinland Saga. Any other recommendations similiar to this?

Anyway, thanks for the recommendations. I'll be sure to read them all.

Yankee isn't fully translated yet.
When I started reading it there was like 25 chapters so they surely will finish the translation shortly.

Historie is interesting but it has a vastly different style
I also need to read more historical stuff.
There's a bunch of them in my plan to read:

https://myanimelist.net/manga/24637/Bestiarius
https://myanimelist.net/manga/58563/Innocent
https://myanimelist.net/manga/25855/Gunka_no_Baltzar

These looked fairly interesting.

Blaster Knucle and Green Blood are both kind of historical but from the western era.

I'm really enjoying Kaiju Girl Caramelise, and it has less than 2000 members.

https://myanimelist.net/manga/113210/Otome_Kaijuu_Caram%C3%A9liser

C'mon, how many times do you see a shoujo (romance) where the girl transforms into godzilla when she gets embarrassed? I know it sounds stupid, but it really works (at least the chapters I read) as a way of showing the protagonist's introverted feelings.

A good amount from my favorite list, mostly because they haven't been translated or licensed in english or you have to buy them.

To name a few:

Kidou Senshi Gundam: The Origin - the vertical is quite expensive, you can wait for comic walker to publish all the chapters.
Kamigami no Itadaki - licensed but you have to buy it, you wouldn't found it on the internet
Dousei Jidai - licensed in italian and french, i don't know if it's licensed in other countries. Pretty sure there isn't an english release.
Takemitsuzamurai - you can find it translated online, it should be more popular. Good read.

hmm I'd say that's a good amount of stuff in my manga list
  • Baron: The Cat Returns - the manga that inspired the Studio Ghibli film, The Cat Returns.
  • Saint Tail - the series that started the sadly small "magical girl thief" subgenre. Meimi Haneoka's secret identity is a thief that uses magic tricks during her heists and usually targets items that have been stolen from others! there's also a cat-and-mouse chase, a blossoming romance, and some of the cutest manga covers I've ever seen in this one.
  • Cyber Idol Mink - from the same author as Saint Tail, this is a cute magical girl idol story about a girl who accidentally gets future technology and uses it to become the next "It-Girl". the art and panel work is absolutely beautiful here and it's sad that there's barely any comments on that aspect of this manga.
  • Happy Happy Clover - man, have I not read this manga in ages... it's a cute fun manga of all ages starring forest animals and their adventures!
  • Zodiac P.I. - episodic mysteries, romance, astrology, a magic ring—sounds like a pretty unique package for a pretty underrated detective manga!
  • Gokkun! Pucho - the main character already has love troubles to deal with, but after drinking a strange drink, she meets a small fairy who gives her more trouble since the drink was meant to be for her. there's some bit of a fantasy aspect in this quest of love as the two decide to work together to help each other and it's pretty funny and somewhat even charming.
  • Twin Spica - quite possibly the most underrated manga of all time. this is a coming-of-age story with lots of charm, lots of little but enjoyable jokes, and lots of beautiful drawings... I don't even think you need to know anything about astronomy to enjoy this unrecognized masterpiece.
  • I Became the Mother of the Strongest Demon Lord's 10 Children in Another World. - huh??? a super recent "video game" isekai manga with a stupidly long title that's actually good??? yes, y'all need to frickin give it a chance, especially if you want a heartwarming story about a newly made family and raising kids. art style and characters look really good too.
  • Cosmo Familia* - this is also a pretty recent manga, so understandable that not many have read it or heard of it. pretty good if you want more stuff like Madoka Magica, as it's even created by the manga-ka behind the Madoka manga adaptations.
  • Prétear: The New Legend of Snow White - everyone always says that the anime adaptation of this series is better, but idk I personally love the art in this manga and I like the fact that the original manga focuses a lot more on the main character's family (or at least that's what I thought) than in the anime. I guess I also found the manga to be more tragic than the anime too and I do like myself a good amount of tragedy and melodrama... provided that it's handled well, of course.
  • Shoujo Tenshi Milcute - this is probably one of the most obscure magical girl manga, it's amazing that people even know about it to even make scanlations for. can't say it's a hidden gem as I find it to be more of a watered down Sailor Moon clone, with its "warrior of justice" and forbidden love parts feeling way too similar, but... hey it's not terrible so go ahead check it out.
  • Young Miss Holmes - definitely check this out if you want some Sherlock Holmes manga with original characters. I literally don't know anyone who's read this (both IRL or on the Internet) other than myself.
  • Toki Meka! - one of the last manga created by Sailor Moon's creator Naoko Takeuchi before she stopped making manga entirely for whatever reason. this is a story with a touch of sci-fi about a girl who becomes friends with a very strange, almost super-human girl. definitely a shame that it was never completely released into tankoban or even continued further.

The only one that I know of that even remotely comes close is Togari. I was introduced to this manga during high school and ended up having to finish reading it through manga hosting sites. It's a pretty good read if you want a series about some dude wanting his shot at redemption.

Hyakki Yakoushou. One of the best supernatural manga out there that's been going for a long time and virtually nobody knows about it.

Hakumei to Mikochi. No idea how it's still so unknown, it's probably the best slice of life being published today along with Yotsuba. Great art, characters and a very soothing atmosphere. Definitely a good read for rainy days.

Mikako-san. I don't know what to say about this one, it's just so different and bittersweet but it's not something that can be put into words. If you enjoy slice of life be sure to give it a read. Each chapter has only 4 pages, so it's nice to take your time with each one.

Dasei 67 Percent. An adult slice of life manga about college kids goofing around. Pretty funny and entertaining.

Wakusei Closet. Lovecraftian body horror with cute girls.

Shadows House. A great full-coloured fantasy manga that's best if you just read for yourself without knowing anything beforehand.

Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta. Cutesy romance about a nearsighted girl who always forgets her glasses.

Violence Action. Exactly what the title suggests. Recommended if you like John Wick.

https://myanimelist.net/manga/16692/Suiiki by the author of mushishi, really good story and art, though its rather short

https://myanimelist.net/manga/15104/Kingdom_Hearts__358_2_Days the manga for my favorite video game, in the franchise and in general. i liked the manga adaption, its more humorous than the series but they did the dramatic elements pretty well.

Yes! one of my top favorites, i havent Read it but i know the anime is a full/proper adaption. really beautiful work. good art/music/atmosphere and very interesting stories (its episodic) i'm sure the manga is just as good but i think the animation team did a really good job at making it stand out. If the synopsis or first chapter/episode doesnt interest you its just personal preference ya know, but i do recommend it.
Tbh the Suiiki manga felt like an extended side story in the mushishi universe (more modern day though ) but its unrelated, reminded me of the vibes though. just the authors style i guess

Ngl, but Coppelion and Shokuryou is really bad. Coppelion is too hokey and naive. And for shokuryou... i really can't stand the mc. But thanks anyway, at least there are some good things about it.

I actually kinda like Ibara, and she could have been a much better character if done right.

Shokuryou has an outstanding art imo. It makes the story and pacing more tense and creepy. Unfortunately the story goes from bad to worse.

Blaster Knuckle is great. Haven't seen much black mc these days. I like the way Freeman fights as a boxer. He barehandedly kills hundreds of demons, damn he's such a badass xD If it has more chapters it would've been great. But i guess i'm asking for too much. I wonder if the series got axed or anything.... the last chapter left with cliffhanger.

Yankee Go Juku also left with a cliffhanger. There's a sequel of it though. But i don't think it'd be translated anytime soon.

Baki and Kaiji has lots of chapters. But i'll take my time and read it, one day, perhaps x( I don't like gambling it wouldn't hurt to try. And baki looks quite interesting. I'll tell you when i've read both of them.

You always gives recommendations of magical girl genre it seems x( Not really my thing but i gave one of your rec a try. Cosmo Familia is good... but a bit lacking.

Any suggestions of which to read first?

I didn't know Ningyou no Kuni is still ongoing. Tbh, it was a bit confusing at first. Perhaps it was because I read the one shot before starting the series. But it gets better along the way. I didn't like Blame anime adaptation but this manga is good.

Do you read appleseed and Dragonhead online? I can't seem to find a site to read it.

Hahaha sorry I love the magical girl genre, that's why.

Probably go read Twin Spica first.
It's the manga that I've rated the highest out of the stuff I've put on that list. It's a genuine hidden gem and a masterpiece.
Also it's not a magical girl title this time lol

@White_Hollow

I think they're still up on kissmanga and mangatown or alternatively you could find some app to read it.
Apps are deleted often from the stores so I can't really give you relevant ones.

Yeah, maybe I made a mistake when I recommended Coppelion and Shokuryou. I was just throwing those up there to see if any of the stick.
Glad you liked some of the ones I posted.
