| I want to get into the games. Somehow wasn't part of my childhood. Maybe me having been religious b4 had something to do with that. Sorry I'm very very very very late to the party lol. But anyway, I'm going at it solo with no intention for Co-op. Diablo is cited by most to be better but I wonder. It seems built around co-op and doing it solo might prove to be too difficult, specially for my first playthrough. Also give me which versions u think I should get for 2 and 3. |
| Story: Diablo 2 by far (you need to get the original game + Lord of Destruction). Check out median XL (fan-made) if you want even more skills/items/dungeons etc (but diablo 2 by itself is a fine game) I played diablo 2 solo and with co-op and it's fun with both because it doesn't have a shit story like diablo 3 |

| Don't, they're not fun. I played Diablo 3 and after hearing so many great things about the series it was such a massive disappointment. It's just a boring top down hack and slash game with minor RPG mechanics. Didn't even have a good story or soundtrack to makeup for the lackluster gameplay. |

| If you want the diablo experience then play diablo 2. Your other option would be to wait for the new release because diablo 3 is extremely dumbed down and easy. You can scale the difficulty but your first playthrough will be absolute shite even if you start a hardcore character with the highest available difficulty. |

I just thought I might miss some important details or Lore, or is that not an issue with Diablo. I wasn't even planning on getting up to 3 lol. From what I heard Diablo does have a story. Is the story standalone or nah? Also, I'd love some recommendations. I mostly stick to my genre of turn-based RPGs but I would like to broaden my horizons a bit. |
| @Re_Z If you want to know the full lore of the diablo franchise then go for it. As i've said diablo 1 is a good game and diablo 3 isn't really necessary. some titles you should check out if you want to get into action rpgs: Path of Exile (it's getting an "expansion" in this or the next year) Titan Quest Torchlight I & II Victor Vran The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing Grim Dawn Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem (still in early access and the alpha was better than the beta version.) |

The story for diablo 1 is fine, BUT the gameplay is REALLY frustrating (e.g. static movement speed). I honestly just started at diablo 2 and didn't have any problems with the story. | Always start with the first game in a series, that way you can see the progression and improvements/QoL changes it has gone through and sometimes those would make it hard to come back to the older games, so D1: Hellfire > D2: LoS > D3: RoS. Personally, they're alright. People fellate over Diablo 2 as the best game too much but it really shows it's age in a lot of ways and the story/writing wasn't really good at all, it's just okay at best. Diablo 3 is decent and really not as bad as people would make you think, I had more fun with Diablo 2 but don't really believe what people that are mad about it tell you, the quality isn't that far off, make your own conclusions without following mob mentality. Personally D2 > D3 > D1 is how I would rate them from best to worst, D1 has a great atmosphere but everything else is very mediocre and has aged like milk. |

| Instead of Diablo, I'd recommend checking out the "Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance" games on the PS2, as they're much better, and if you like them, try "Champions of Norrath," as it's extremely similar. |

A Diablo game made by Blizzard is about as exciting as a Command and Conquer made by Electronics Arts. Same story, big publisher closes auxiliary studio around 2000 and starts cashing in on their best license, destroying it in the process. Command and Conquer died after a few installments, and given how stupidly bad Diablo 3 was at release (and it stayed like that with no patch and no PvP for a year - long enough for me to stop playing the game before it), I'd need to be a fool to give Blizzard another coin for that license. Plus the fact that Blizzard was pretty much openly saying "We shat on the creators and fans heads with D3 but it sold more than anything else this year already lololol"... doesn't really make me want to trust them. I mean, the AAA industry isn't even hiding it anymore, they're merely shitting the most generic, uninspired, lazy, family-friendly garbage they can come up with, a few pics of pretty lightning effects and they're already making money with the preorders alone. Who cares about finishing a game or making it good when you're making benefits without even doing that? |

| @Deathko Well, you are certainly right. I don't trust them either but what I am willing to do is wait patiently for them to release the game and buy it if the game looks satisfactory. I can't predict the games future nor can you but your concerns are justified. and yeah C&C's fall is sad as it was one of my favourite RTS franchise. The early games were good but the recent ones are garbage with the exception of red alert 3. |
